I also think I like the RB pick by the Bengals, but I really hope they know what they're getting in a guy that has had violence issues off the field. That would have taken him off my board no matter how beastly he looks or how good his hands apparently are. I like his self confidence and production though, 6.9 a pop in the SEC as a soph is pretty damn stout.

Just what the Bengals need, Lawrence Phillips 2.0!

Maybe, like in hockey, they can designate someone to serve the penalty.

You don't remember Jim Plunkett starting for the Patriots when they changed their name from Boston to New England?!?

Truthfully, I became a Patriots fan when the Rams got rid of Kurt, so Brady too is the only QB when the Pats have been my favorite team.

Meh, every year the Patriots draft a qb as Brady's successor.... There is going to be at least one or two more drafted before Brady retires.

And yet obviously the Pats thought Grappolo was worth a pick.

I dont blame the players...Its the NFL that invites them. I think they know that some of these players are going to fall but want the drama for their ratings...

I absolutely love what the Niners did last night. Of all the picks, Hyde might be the one I like the least. But Martin was a great value and could end up starting at center, Borland could be great against the run filling in for Bowman, and Brandon Thomas will get a year to rehab and could provide some insurance if they can't get a deal done with Iupati next year.

Yup. It's amazing how much Baalke has turned the franchise around. And hilarious how much Ralph Barbieri (local sports radio show host) hated him and thought he was terrible.

Interesting to see McCarron, Murray, and Mettenberger are all three sitting there on Day 3.

A fact which suggests to me that maybe, just maybe, NFL GM's are getting a little smarter.

The Saints need a center, and a lot of people had him pegged to go there at pick 58.

Delighted to see IU's Cody Latimer go to the Broncos. I was thinking they'd nab Carlos Hyde with that pick.

Happy to see the big NDSU Tackle, Billy Turner go in the 3rd round. Probably the highest NFL draft pick out of NDSU.

Whats going on there? Whomever picks him up may have a kid that will be a superstar. A winner with a chip on his shoulder.

ESPN was just saying that the interview process with teams didn't go very well. That whenever there were mistakes he would blame other people for them.

Just saw a crazy stat on ESPN. The last time a QB drafted by the Chiefs won a game as a Chief was 1987!

James White to the Patriots and Jared Abbrederris to the Packers. Packers may have gotten pretty good value out of this pick if JA stays away from getting anymore concussions.

James White will be a steady figure for the Patriots. He's not excellent at anything but has good shiftiness and very good hands.

Bengals can let the ginger play out the year and then can just see how McCarron looks. If the think he might get there they can either move on from Dalton or just transition/franchise Dalton for an extra year. Pretty sad that the Bengals are now run better than the Steelers

Nice to see two more Coastal Carolina Chanticleers make it to the NFL. WR Matt Hazel to the Dolphins in Round 6, and RB Lorenzo Taliaferro in the fourth round to the Ravens. I think both have a chance for success in the NFL, but then I'm biased. a bit surprised to see LT go in the fourth.

I am interested to see what Duvernay-Tardif does in KC. Really wanted Cinci to get him as a developmental prospect, I think the Chiefs got a huge steal there.

That they had the same number of draftees thus far as both Tennessee and Georgia Tech speaks volumes to me about the state of those programs.

And no, that's not intended as a slight to CC. I mean, the two I named do have a tad bit more football history behind them and should, by all rights, be better.

Only in arena or the CFL most likely.

Honestly, of all the QB's drafted out of the SEC the only one I see ever amounting to much might be Manziel and even that feels like an against-the-odds thing. Top 25 competition tended to bring out the worst in Murray and his teams, Mettenberger is just a spoiled punkass bitch, and McCarron -- for whatever reason I can't quite define -- feels like yet another Bama QB that was more the recipient of all the talent around him with a career arc similar to most of those before him (McElroy, JP Wilson)

edit to add: And yes, I know he looks different than those guys. I just don't know that he feels significantly different to me.

Funny watching Bill Polian try to explain reasons why Michael Sam hasn't been drafted so far that doesn't have to do with him being gay.

Are people really this afraid of gay folks. Guy is a fucking SEC defensive player of the year.

Guy was always considered a late round prospect for the NFL afaik. Who in their right mind would want the media circus he'll entail for a marginal prospect?

Tebow was "marginal" perhaps and certainly had the circus ... but he was also one of the most popular sports figures in recent memory after years of college success & hype. That's not the case with Sam in the slightest.

Honestly, there hasn't been much of a circus around gay players in other sports. No former SEC Defensive POY has fallen this far in the draft.

St. Louis just took Sam and they likely got themselves a hell of a player.

His undrafted status was the top story on ESPN.com most of the day.

And when he's cut -- as is the usual case for late picks regardless of their sexual orientation -- God help the poor team that has to manage that p.r. nightmare and defend themselves against agendas that have nothing to do with football.

edit to add: As for "no former SEC DPOY falling this far" ... see how those SEC QB's fared in the draft? Maybe, just maybe, being the DPOY last year just isn't as impressive as it has been in some seasons past.

This is the same non-sense teams used to use to say to keep from hiring black head coaches.

Sacks are a shitty stat to base a player's value off of. The only thing that matters is the ability to get to the QB at the NFL level. The guy seems like a tweener which is the worst place you can be.

If he was an exceptional prospect he would be drafted. Since he isn't he will get the same shot that everyone else does. He might need a passport to play professional football.

More like common sense than nonsense afaic.

If multiple choices are roughly equal, the one with the fewest negatives often becomes the wiser choice.
