There are two teams - Carolina and Seattle - that basically don't have a QB that appears to be serviceable for this season.

There are two QBs that can start in the NFL who are clearly on the trade block (Mayfield and Garoppolo).

There may or may not be a QB in the draft worth a first-round pick unless it's a lower first-round pick and basically a 50/50 shot as to whether he'll ever be a reliable starter, let alone a franchise QB.

And there are probably 10-11 more teams that could conceivably want a promising rookie QB and might be willing to draft one if they were convinced he had a decent shot of becoming great. History suggests there might not be one in this draft.

I'm prepared for pass-rush mania early in this draft. Easier to scout and project. If someone has the potential (and Walker has this) to be a Donald-type disrupter who can even line up at 3T, I can see him going 1st because that type produces stats based more on scheme than disruption. I don't think Jacksonville can screw this pick up if they go defensive line, but as much as I like Hutchinson, I can see the ability of Walker to line up inside on some plays as an even bigger difference-maker.

Heard an interesting fact about the 2023 draft. Team are getting smarter.

We all suspect that the QB class next year will be a good one. And that this year's class stinks. So maybe you should be thinking a year ahead if you are QB needy.

Turns out that five teams now have two first round picks in 2023: Houston, Seattle, Detroit, Miami, and Philadelphia. And all five of those teams could be looking for a new QB depending on how 2022 goes.

So you have five teams that have positioned themselves well to trade up for a QB. And five fan bases that are probably thinking to themselves "We've got two firsts next year; we'll trade up a get a QB then" without realizing that at least four other fanbases are thinking the same thing.

Could be a fascinating and lucrative market (even moreso than normal) for a team that holds a top pick next year and does not need to draft a QB.

Speaking of high draft picks for next year, it appears Ryan Poles is attempting as close as you can get to an empty cupboard strategy with the Bears this year.

Bears are sitting at like 33 of 80 open roster spots. They're gonna have a fucccckton of undrafted free agents and 1 year minisal deals.

But can he play football . . .

A GM needs some courage to spend a top 10 pick on a guy with such boom/bust potential

If 2019 Stingley were in this draft pool, he'd be in the conversation for 1.1 in this draft, no doubt. Ceiling is super high.

With the amount of posts and hype of this thread around here, I figured the draft was probably next Thursday or something. Nope, 22 days out. Lol.

Am I the only one who saw that tweet and...

1) Felt a little bit older than normal and...
2) Misread that as Darryl Stingley and felt really really uncomfortable.

People sometimes forget that Haskins was drafted into pretty much the worst situation possible as a very young man. What a terrible accident.

Probably.

Then again, doesn't mean toxicology won't prove him right either. The Broward location and the strange circumstances of the incident are red flags.

Gil Brandt is 90 years old.

At some point, people need to stop putting a microphone in front of you for your own good.

His statements were tone deaf, but he clearly is a bit out of it. He was going on about how Haskins had his draft party in a bowling alley and was trying to connect that to his death.

Yeah at 6:30 am on a Saturday morning. That's going to raise some questions.

I'm confused. Everything I've read (not just Twitter) says he was on foot. Did his car break down or something?

That would make sense, but I haven't seen that reported or confirmed by any major source. I had to dig to find it by searching specifically for his name + gas and it's just "reporting" of people speculating online that that's what happened. I suppose it will all come out in due time.

Apparently that is what is missing in his life.

Seriously though, Cam does so many good things for people in the communities he plays in, it is just mind boggling that he proudly owns such a high level of misogyny.

How did the sensor in the ball work as far as measuring first downs? I am not a big fan of the old guys with chains between two sticks.

This is depressing with almost 0 fans in this stadium. Before I get too invested in this, will this league actually be able to finish out a season?

Also this article was cool. The renegade who took on the NFL (and the NBA and the NHL)

So was there actually bad weather last night? Went to tune into the evening game, saw it was adjusted to 9PM, then was delayed outright. Didn't know if they just ran out of money already.

The first game was delayed due to weather and I think there was scatter t-storms in the area all day.

A close friend of mine is a Bills fan so we are always going to war during the NFL season (I'm a Fins fan.) We decided to pick the same USFL team to root for so we can be on the same side for once. We settled on the Houston Gamblers.

The Gamblers picked up a nice victory to start the year. The defense looked solid, but the QB play was not. I think backup Kenji Bahar might be a better option than Clayton Thorson.

Saints tried like heck to get DeShaun Watson and have now interviewed every "top" QB in this class.

I'd say that the coaches do not think that 30/30 Jameis is the long term answer, and I'd be shocked if they don't grab a QB in the first round.
