AJ Hawk is visiting the Bengals today. I like this if we sign him as a back-up, eventual fill in for the perpetually injured Bufict.

Patrick Willis. No doubt Hall of Famer, right?

Not to me. I think he's terrific, but he isn't a Singletary type. He frankly hasn't played long enough to get a "no doubt" nod, the Niners didn't win a Super Bowl while he was there and the defense, while very good at times, never got the kind of pub that, say, the 85 Bears did, or the 2000 Ravens or the recent Seahawks teams.

Will he be considered? I would guess he would.

He was an elite player for seven seasons for an elite defense. That's long enough for me. But I also wish the Hall of Fame focused less on longevity and more on impact during a career.

He should be an interesting case whose election will probably have more to do with the voters's theory about what a Hall of Fame should be than about his actual ability. Kind of the flip-side of the Tim Brown/Art Monk discussions.

Willis was also a 5x 1st team All Pro. I'm not sure how that compares to others but it sounds pretty impressive on its own merit.

True. I'm not saying he's not a Hall of Famer, but my impression isn't he's a lock, the way Singletary or Taylor or Butkus were, and presumeably Lewis and Urlacher will be.

I am an anti-Niners fan from my Rams days, but I have always liked Willis a lot, in spite of that. I will be rooting for him to get in.

Goodness, the NFC West isn't going to be the best division in football next year.. I think Frisco is on a nose dive to the basement. Justin Smith also expected to retire. Jed York is going to be the most hated man in California in a heartbeat.

Well, they did get rid of 3 black players. What are the odds of an NFL team doing that over the course of an off-season? 100%?

Smith and Bayless are abortions of sports telecasters. They should both be taken out to a nice pasture full of wheat, with the sun shining high in a beautiful blue sky and shot.

I feel like he was headed that way. Longevity for defensive guys is usually a big thing. He'll just end up needing to wait in line behind Urlacher and Lewis, etc. I see a lot of final 25s for him, but not many final 15s.

I really, really wish Chip Kelly would hold a press conference and go after SAS. It's the only way he'd ever actually have to account for the bullshit he spews. Otherwise this story is gone by Wednesday.

I love Maddog Chris Russo, likely a byproduct of growing up listening to him, Logan would understand. It angers me that SAS has an afternoon show on Maddogs channel. I can't listen to him it is so bad, I guess a 40 year old white dude just can't connect with him.

Sadly I am stuck with the wanna be hip frat boys SVP and Russilo.

I just can't in a million years picture Revis going back to the Jets. His connection was with Ryan, not the massive shit show they have going on there.

If Harbaugh was still the Head Coach, these things would concern me if I was a fan. But, I think Harbaugh could compete while there was turnover on the roster. But I have little faith in the coaching staff Baalke has assembled. Though they could prove me wrong, I have a feeling everyone from Baalke on down will be looking for work come 2016.

Yup. Like I mentioned a while back in this thread, the front office has done an amazing job bringing this team to respectability, so there has to be some sort of credit they've built up with the fan base. I just can't see this panning out in any way, shape or form though. The talent level on the field is going to decrease in a huge way, and you're losing one of the most talented coaches you've ever had.

I actually believe them when they say they treat McCourty and Revis's negotiations separately, but I worry about it impacting potential extensions for Hightower/Collins/Jones down the line.

I understand why the Pats have their strategy of not really discussing any numbers until the last minute, but I think it backfired here and they were caught a little off guard by how much other teams were offering DB's. If you're willing to go that high for McCourty's yearly salary, why not just franchise McCourty and work out an extension with Gostkowski? The difference between the kicker franchise tag and a top of the market extension is much smaller than the same thing at safety, and there's a much lower chance Gostkowski suffers a serious injury than McCourty.

McCourty cap numbers seem reasonable:

2015: $6M
2016: $8M ($12M dead)
2017: $10M ($9M dead)
2018: $11M ($6M dead)
2019: $12.5M ($3M dead)

With a $15 million bonus, so only $6 million in dead money when/if they cut him in 2018.

Psyched to see Julius Thomas to Jacksonville. The blocking concerns are valid, and he may be injury-prone, but the guy was a matchup nightmare. We'll see who Denver brings in to replace him, because for all the talk about Manning's arm strength it sure seemed like his biggest problem at times was Jacob Tamme dropping wheel routes or failing to create separation, just like Brady's stats fall off and his arm looks weaker when Gronk is out.

He'll fade away in Jacksonville. He is a product of playing with Manning and a talented cast around him.
