Another bogus statement. Please give me this "long list" and lets compare it to other cities where you will find the same stuff and worse.

5 of those major events in my list happened in Chicago. Does that mean that every time we hear about a player, coach or umpire being attackd by a fan we need to say "must be in Chicago"?

If we know for sure it wasn't in Philly then sure, why not.

The problem isn't the extreme examples, it's where the average lies. And there is no way to quantify that except from personal experience. And, to be fair to you, there are a lot of east coasters on this so there won't be as much talk about Chicago fans. But it's not like we're just spewing stuff we see on TV. The people on this site spend a lot of time at live games, and a lot of us feel that Philly fans are undesirable to be around. I don't think anybody is saying that Philly fans have a laundry list of news-catching extreme moments. We're saying that the average level of fan douchebag-ness is higher on the whole.

Philly fans are abrasive, and there is a pat each other on the back attitude about it. That general abrasiveness leads to more over the line behavior than normal. Don't see what the problem is in admitting that.

As an LSU fan I will admit we have some of the worst college fan behaviors this side of the West Virginia line. (Minus the rioting, none of that luckily.) Mostly accountable to the amount of night games and the tradition of all day drinking.

Fan bases don't differ that much, but slight differences in the atmosphere around those fan bases can change the noticeable behaviors.

The point is that shit happens everywhere. It is ridiculous to paint Philly fans in such a broad stereotype just as most stereotypes are stupid.

Actually you couldn't be more wrong (like EF27 said there was no such response here) and if I was in the crowd if the guy did it I would have helped them hold him down till the cops arrived.

Murders happen everywhere but it's not ridiculous to say they happen more often on the South Side of Chicago.

The reputation Philly fans earned isn't by accident. I wrote in another threa my experience at a Philadelphia sporting event. The fans were worse than any fans I've experienced at any stadium (not toward me but to others). And I've been to a lot of games in a lot of cities.

No, in the thread where I talked about opening day in Nationals Park. People didn't say this was ok, they said other behavior that most fans find unacceptable was ok.

Maybe you should watch a sport like Polo instead, that seems to be a sport where your social status and proper etiquette of fan behavior might be met. I hate to see you at an European soccer game or a hockey game (where might I add that Caps fans were telling the refs they sucked quiet audibly). Your head might explode with all the booing and chanting of the word sucks.

Yeah, it's totally unreasonable to expect fans to not yell "asshole" at an event with lots of kids.

Swearing, harassment, projectile vomiting, throwing feces or any other object is wrong and show not be tolerated, but I think getting all fired up about fans booing and chanting sucks is just stupid, in my opinion. I'll just drop it.

this idiot's uncle is now claiming that the guy was choking on a hot dog and that caused him to vomit, and that it was totally an accident.

except that if you were choking, you couldnt vomit, since your airway would be blocked, and if you shoved your fingers down your throat, all you would do would be to shove whatever the obstruction was further down your throat.

loser.

Unreasonable? No.
Unrealistic? Yeah, I'd say pretty much so.

I can't recall the last sporting event I attended, large or small, beyond the middle school level where I didn't hear that at least once or similar/much much stronger.

There's nothing wrong with fans telling roughs they suck. Or yelling at a player that they suck during a game. However, I think yelling "SUCKS!" after every member of the opposing team's organization during the introductions is classless.

I don't know where it originated, but I first encountered it at a Terps game this year. I hated it there too.

I guessed Philly as well.

They have this sort of reputation I guess. You sort of expect certain things from certain fans no matter where they are but it does seem Philly fans can take things a little too far.

The Michael Irvin situation was one of the worst things I have ever seen in sports. It wasnt 1 or 2 people giving Philly a bad name there it was a large amount of the crowd.

I would feel comfortable traveling to any stadium other than Philly to be honest. Ive seen visiting fans gets nailed with snow balls, beer thrown on them, and spit on on different youtube clips of fans visiting Philly. Its fine to heckle opposing fans but that stuff is a bit too much.
