Pretty irritated that I went ahead and got the digital copy to beat everyone to the game, and people I know who went out and bought the disc version this morning are already playing, meanwhile I still have roughly 20 hours left. Glad I called off work today.

Slow connection or servers bogged down?

I am not sure. The game is downloaded. It's the 'application data' that is 'copying game files' that is taking forever.

What's the difference between the Standard/Early Tip Off/Michael Jordan editions?

Edit: Nevermind. No need to bother with the Jordan edition.

Not having the exact same issue as you are, but my download is starting and stopping around 80% and the disk utilization is really high, suspect it's something to do with the size of the game and the number of people trying to get it today. Mildly annoying, just hoping it finishes before this evening when I'll actually have time to play

It's a 50 gig download. What's your bandwidth? Took me about 5 hours with a 20mbps line.

The live simcast with the option to jump in and out of the game is pretty much the best fucking thing in a video game ever. I might not be exaggerating, I'd have to think long and hard about it.

Don't like the myCareer as directed by Spike Lee. Usually I'll get some mileage out of it but this year it feels way too canned. Although the authentic college teams are a nice touch.

Wait, wasn´t that in a while ago once ?

If you guys get a chance to run franchise, let me now how it looks (especially the allegedly improved Draft and FA).

The entire storyline run through the first season of MyCareer. It's one long feature film.

When the second season starts, it's the good old MyCareer with additional stuff.

NBA 2K16 Preview Thread

I got a chance to play a full game last night with the Lakers against the Rockets.

Harden gave me fits before fouling out early in the 4th...CPU never subbed him after getting his 4th foul early in the 3rd and 5th foul mid 3rd.

At one point early in the 3rd I trailed by 21 but Kobe went off and got us within 12 to start the 4th. When Harden fouled out we kept biting into the lead and finally D Russell hit a 3 at the buzzer to send it to OT. He then hit a floater at the buzzer in OT to win it 116-114.

It seemed like the CPU stepped out of bounce a lot and three wreck less alley oops that resulted in a lot of turnovers...21 total for them.

Kobe had 44, Russell had 38 with 8 boards and 8 assists, Harden had 31 and Howard had 24 with 22 boards

Still a fun experience...but my age is catching up with me...need to figure out how to do coach mode

Simcast has been in for a while, but it was text only and you could only jump into the game once (and had to wait for the game to load and then couldn't jump out again)

This year has a 2d simcast live engine and you can jump in and out of the game with no loading time. It's incredible. It's my favorite mode in a sport game ever. You could coach in 2d the entire time if you wanted, the 2d mode can go 1,2,3 and 6x speed so could get through a season in a reasonable time

Love the 2D simcast mode.

It's similar to the Football Manager style presentation.

For the life of me, though, I couldn't figure out how to turn off the music during this mode! I set the audio to TV broadcast, but it's still playing the music.

Game looks amazing, but I am terrible at video games so I can't buy it unless simcast is a reasonable replacement for coach mode.

So a couple of questions for you gents if you don't mind:

Can you get the pregame, halftime and post game shows if you play simcast? Will there be highlights?

What kind of strategies are available besides substitution for simcast?

Would love to think that this could be a doable coach mode.

There is a quick sim mode that has icons like a football manager type game. There is also a trick to get cpu vs cpu coach mode on pc version, at least it worked in nba2k15. I am at a conference and have not tried it in the new version yet.

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you guys are looking for, there is definitely a 'quick-sim' option. No fuss, just advance the date on the calendar 1+ days.

However, in addition to that, there is the simcast and simcast live options that have been talked about - with ability to jump-in and out of the actual game.

I'm really sucking so far - the game 'feels' very different from the last couple of years, and I'm getting used to it slowly. I really suck running off screens in particular - need to be a lot more accurate in running off the screener - and that combined with my inability to get open with iso moves is meaning that I'm missing a lot of contested jumpers in most my games.

I'm terrible at this game. Do the controls seem floaty to anyone else?

1. Can you do a career mode with historic teams?

2. Can you do a custom-sized league with a custom schedule length?

It's the new foot-planting system IMO - it looks great, but it's made the controls feel less responsive.

My main issues are that the AI pick-n-rolls are too effective - the guard loses his man nearly every time and gets an open lane to the basket if I don't control the post defender myself. My pick-n-rolls are effective only for the screener as 9/10 my defender gets through the screen and cuts me off, meaning I have an easy assist 8 times out of 10 to the roll man... I had 18 assists in a game last night, with probably 15 of them off that play.

Also my AI-controlled weakside defender down low is horrible, and I don't know how many possessions I have a game where I hold the other team until 2 or 3 seconds left on the shotclock, only for whoever is downlow to just make a simple cut into the middle of the key for a wide open shot.

This is with the default 'simulation' sliders. I think defensive awareness needs to go up, and mid-range shots need to go down - they are money for just about everyone if open.

Yeah, I've played about 5 games and I have to say the on court game is pretty garbage out of the box - offensively it's just a mess of players running into each other and sticking, hit the guy who is open for a mid range jumper or wide open in the paint. I can't get any separation man on man using ISO or the screen game but it doesn't really matter, just run around until you get some separation and jack a mid range shot. Defensively, the AI seems to have gone a long way backwards but it could also be defenders just getting caught up in traffic leading to somebody being open.

I'll wait for a killer set of sliders or a patch set to be released, but I'm a little concerned that the new gameplay might not be that fixable - it seems to be the core physics that aren't as good or don't lend themselves to as fun and realistic gameplay. I can't think of the last NBA 2k game that wasn't playable and fun out of the box. Quite disappointing.

Off the court, awesome game made even better. Love the additions and changes to myGM. While I'm waiting for the gameplay to improve or researching sliders might amuse myself for a few hours with the team relocation stuff.

I maybe in the minority, but I am definitely liking the gameplay.

I agree that the Simulation sliders are funky this year. But on defaults, the game already plays really well. The AI defense really adjusts to what you do on offense, so you just can't spam moves over and over again. You will have to rely on ball movement and reading the defense to get an uncontested basket.

The new foot planting physics takes getting used to, but it also gives a lot of focus on the iso moves and getting your opponent to lean in the correct direction to blow by them.

I'm still playing it, but I find the AI defense more infuriating each game. Last night I played a close game, Celtics (me) vs the Cavs and lost the game by 1 because Kevin Love got an open dunk in the dying seconds. I watched the replay of the last shot, and Love was outside the 3pt line, and my AI-controlled defender (Sullinger) was for some reason fronting him behind the arc - so basically giving him a wide open lane to the basket.

Putting this one on the shelf for a while. As well as not fixing any of the gameplay in any appreciable way the PC update waiting for me this evening seems to have completely broken play calling - my guy gets to the point on the floor, the icon changes color but the rest of the play doesn't fire and the rest of my players stand around like idiots.

I can take a game I suck at and try to improve, but this just feels like such a massive step from last year it's just frustrating me.

Is there any way to play the mycareer mode without being nicknamed "Freq"? It's "freqing" annoying....

Oh man, I loved the high school and college games but the Spike Lee stuff just turned me off as well. Apparently I'm a once in a generation talent named Freq and I'm the #1 prep player in the country, have colleges drooling all over me, lead my team to a national championship like Melo but I get into the NBA and I'm rated 53 overall where as everyone else in my class is rated in the low 70's? Even Adam Morrison wasn't that big a bust - it was just really poorly implemented IMO.

At least the previous years "you are an undrafted FA who had to fight your way into the league" made logical sense. This year was just nonsensical.

Agreed. Loved the high school and college games, but the story made no sense with my ratings being so low.

Spike Lee killed the MyCareer mode. You have no control over anything other than selecting the college you go to for 1 year. You can't stay in college, you can't control any of the storyline or backstory, you don't even have a choice of voices like last year, you can't change nicknames and the freqing nickname sticks with you for the whole career. They should have made the Spike Lee thing a separate mode.

I'm not bitter.

I agree on the MyCareer thoughts so far. I just jumped into it and it doesn't feel like I have a whole lot of choice. I never would have hired that annoying agent. I would have dropped my 'boy' whatever his name was, long ago. I got somewhat excited when I thought I was going to have the choice to stay in school or go pro but that decision was made for me.

I enjoy the Spike Lee part of MyCareer, if I'm viewing it as a playable movie. As a start to MyCareer, it's way to restricting. They could've at least let Spike's parts come in organically like they did last years playable movie. Let the cut scenes be triggered by events.

What I think they should do why MyCareer is take the high school and college part and allow that to determine your ratings as you go into the pros. I don't understand why 2K feels they have to force you to go a certain way in MyCareer. Make it truly mine and allow me to determine how my career unfolds. I should be able to struggle and not get drafted or play very well and truly challenge for #1.

It's weird also to create white guy like I am in reality and to have black parents and specially a "twin" sister (at least they could have said ¡'m adopted).

Besides that minor issue, I hate scripted stories and I would love to have the option to just skip it, else I don't see myself starting several careers in different positions.
