Our school take every student to the movies at the end of the year if they reach certain school wide reading goals. This year, the movie was Up. About half the staff talked about how it dragged at moments and some thought the entire dog thing was a little over the top.

I probably shouldn't have talked to them before I saw it a week later. It was Okay, but probably my least favorite Pixar movie. I was glad I went once, but I wouldn't add it to my collection.

Along the same lines, I've never heard anyone state a dislike for Bull Durham, even if they (like me) can't stand Sarandon's and Robbins' politics.

If you can't enjoy a movie because you don't like an actor/actresses opinions in real life, then that's your problem.

If you're a baseball fan, then you have to like Bull Durham. To claim otherwise is blashphemy, and you should be forced to watch Major League 3: Back to the Minors for 72 hours straight as punishment.

Susan Sarandon's character spoils Bull Duraham at times for me. I still like the movie ok, but can see how her and Costner's characters can turn one away from it. Major League, while probably an inferior movie, might be the better choice for a sports comedy.

Obvious recent example already talked about on this board: Star Trek (2009), nowhere near the best Star Trek themed movie, but far and away the best Star Trek franchise movie for this exercise.

Bingo. The perfect baseball movie IMO. Comedy, solid story, and good acting by guys who can actually play baseball -- an underrated part of sports movie.

Bull Durham is great but every time they show Robbins winding up as he pretends to be a baseball player I want to hang myself.

I hated "300", I am on your side here. I didn't even make it through the entire thing it was so fucking boring. This movie made Sin City look like an Academy Award winner.

I liked the British remake called the Mean Machine where they played soccer instead of football. I never saw the Sandler version.

The Waterboy, unless enjoyed strictly for the comedy aspect, would make anyone not familiar with American football loathe it.

I was referring to the Adam Sandler remake of the Longest Yard. I've seen the Waterboy and while it's no Happy Gilmore it's a decent sports comedy.

Add me into the 300 hate. The most obvious sign it was a bad movie: it is about 300 Spartans, and they are too lazy to ever show close to 300 spartans in the movie. Its the f'in title emphasis of the movie, and we can't even CGI in what at least looked close to the emphasized number of soldiers? (Hell they had to CGI everything else!)
