I don't care if it's any good. Watching old Han Solo and Luke Skywalker running around will be worth my money even if George Lucas writes the dialogue. Any actual quality is just gravy.

I am excited.
Good to see JJ Abrams brought along his favorite actor - the lens flare - with him to the series!

What the hell is up with that lightsaber? Did they let Lucas design something?

I think they just thought they needed to come up with something new.
I don't mind it though.

Shaky cam and lens flare?
Welcome to yet another StarTrek/Super8/Cloverfield, but this time with lightsabers! I'm sure the first 15 minutes will be action packed, with extreme close-ups of really super cool fight sequences!

I'll admit, the first thing that came to mind watching the trailer was
"A black stormtrooper!?" follows by the quote "Why not? It worked in Blazing Saddles" My mind is weird sometimes.

That's not a trailer, its a trailer for a trailer! Which makes it amusing to see so many strong taeks based off that already.
At least Jurassic World had Burt Macklin leading a pack of velociraptors! |

Loved the trailer. X-Wings, TIE's and the Falcon just were just spine chilling.

What's the consensus on the series as a whole, now? I'm in my 40's, watched the movies a bunch growing up, but haven't seen the originals in 20 years.. Have they held up? Are they good movies, or just kind of nostalgic...? I'm sure they were way ahead of their time, but are they still watchable, given how amazing movies are now...?
I remember the last trilogy... I seem to remember hating the first one, don't remember the second, and thought the third was very long, but ok.... |

Originals still hold up mainly because of the acting and a sense of humor which is lacking in the three that follow. Ewoks are still dumb, etc.

Watched the trailer, felt absolutely nothing one way or the other. I think the prequels burned any love for Star Wars completely out of me. I guess I'll watch this once it's out on DVD.

That and the stormtrooper seem to be the two big points on the trailer. I guess that's probably because there's not much in the trailer so people want to grab onto something. SI

So are the side-sabers to keep one's hand from getting chopped off?

I would assume that it functionally works the same as a cross guard on a sword. So yes?

Yep, the guard on the saber is a pretty darn good idea IMO given their tendency to, you know, slice through things and all.

But wouldn't the saber-guards also take your hand off?

This should resolve any controversy regarding the cross guard.

Luke is confirmed to be in this film, so it's entirely possible that it was his idea to re-design the lightsaber based on his own experience.

But given part of the cross guard is just a regular handle, if you block an attack with the lightsaber part, all they have to do is ride the guard up a couple of inches, cut through the regular handle part and either cut off your hand(s) and/or cut through the handle of the lightsaber.
