that being said, I dont think Rummy will let us create a BG who can protect the seer every single night. so we need to make it random as to who the seer is (although then permamnet) so the wolves dont knwo who they are. and by random, i mean random repulblican!

That sounds good. I'm thinking we should wait until we have a bill finalized before we tell CR? That will give people more time to speak up if they want to bring up another idea. Any thoughts on ways to ramp up the seer power? Maybe something like, "The Seer can scan two people -- one will get a true read, one will get a false read" -- that way we can scan two at a time, but it might take us a while to figure it out. Eh, as I type that, it sounds lame. |

No, if we try to ramp it up a little I think we should do something to keep the seer alive, or to somehow protect us if the seer is a wolf. Having the seer role land on a wolf would be really bad for us...maybe your random non-wolf thing isn't so insane -- that's how it works in a normal game, isn't it? It would get us one extra clear, eventually.

How about something like, "If the person scanned is a wolf, he dies immediately." I liked that from BK's game -- why bother with the nightfall votes, just get them out. Maybe we can counter it with a 25% chance the seer dies?

Because CR is encouraging us to do so. And rightfully so -- if we don't get these bills passed today we don't have any roles for night 2, and that's not going to be good for anyone. We're not going to be able to pull together a bunch of legislation in half an hour, especially with a lot of the schedules we're working with. And Pass has made it clear we should allow a couple of hours for other people to chime in -- and I agree. So my question would be, why are you trying to stall? |

I think the only way we'd get that through is if we make it like BK's game and it's a tit-for-tat death. And that doesn't stop us from getting our seer power on a wolf. |

I think getting the leadership set ASAP is important. I mean, realistically, there's no way to really prevent either being a wolf. For one, neither Pass nor Tyrith are stupid enough to do anything wolfish in advance anyhow. For two, I don't think both of our party wolves (I'm under the assumption that each party has 2 wolves for a 14:4 ratio) would be some dumb as to just try and nominate themselves.

Okay, CR said we can make it a random non-wolf Republican, but that maybe the Dems wouldn't go for that, and that if we get too picky, the wolves might know who to go for to get the Seer. I think this is key -- if we say the Seer has to be Republican, and the Dems say the BG has to be a Democrat, the wolves are probably more likely to go for us.

What if we pass a bill with a Seer that's a Democrat, so that the wolves go after them?

what if we make it a 2 night seer, and a dem, then after 2 nights, (and hopefully 2 dems night killed) we can rethink.

Then at some point soon we need to ram another seer protection provision through Congress, or with the original seer package, that gives us some protection. I'm pretty sure there's ways we can do this - maybe something that gives the seer one time protection if he's going to be killed. I think some kind of broadcast results upon death thing would be nice to have if we're worried about night kills. |

I think that would be politically crappy -- we give up our most conservative power to a liberal, it would kill both us and whoever on their side it landed on. They wouldn't go for it. |

I'm just catching up but think that the idea of throwing the seer to the Dems is an interesting idea, but only once the wolves can kill. Up until that point, it just weakens us. Although later, it would put a target over them rather than us.

Putting a target on them and getting a couple of them killed isn't going to do us any good if we get out of office because we gave away our banner carrying role to the other side. In my conservative district letting those crazy Bible-burning liberals have the all important power of seer is going to be political suicide, and I'm not going to go for it.

I can see the idea of letting the Dems fall on the sword of the Seer but don't overall think it's the best of plans. A little to screwy.

Where does it say that the Seer needs to be a Republican for you to keep power through your constituents? If so, we might as well say in the bill that it should be a Republican. |

It says in the rules that every vote has a political consequence. This is a game about Washington. EVERYTHING we do on the floor of Congress is going to have political consequences.

It sounds like the dems are going to make a dem the BG, so they could just potentially protect the seer if we give it to them for a night or so or however long a BG can protect someone.

One final note -- our members getting killed does not necessarily mean we (the Republicans) will lose control of Congress. Remember, districts with dead Congresspeople get attached to other, living representatives. Unless we lose a border district to the Dems the balance of power will be preserved. While there are increasing odds of additional districts winding up in the hands of the wolves we don't have to be in the foremost concerned about losing our party advantage via death.

What if we get the Dems to make the BG a totally random person, regardless of party, and we make the seer the same person as their Bill?

It doesn't get us anywhere. Why are we trying to go screwy on this? It's all risk and minimal upside. Besides, having the seer on the other side will diminish our ability to protect that person in the future, should it become necessary, with more legislation. And having the BG in the other party won't diminish our ability to guard the seer materially, I don't think - it's not like we can't communicate, and that the wolves can't communicate across party lines. |

Ahhh, missed that in the rules Tyrith. I assumed they became 'dead' districts, which meant there would've been value in getting the dems offed.
Well, we either need to keep the seer or as Pass said, go tit for tat with the BG and seer. |

Anyway, I'm heading to lunch soon. In an hour, if no one has objected, I'm going to submit myself as liaison. I'll wait until we've decided on a bill before we submit a Leader.

Our liasons can communicate, so what if we give the liasons the power of seer and bodyguard?
