Looks like it. We are closer to it becoming a reality.

Reagan really was just the worst. A spokesman for the ultra rich to sell us all out and stoke so much of the division that's still going on today.

Heh. The back of our house looks so different these days. We added on an office for my wife, replaced the deck, replaced the ugly siding with nicer looking gray vinyl siding, removed those bushes and put in a sidewalk so I could wheelchair my father around to the driveway. A lot has changed since 2016. Last edited by Kodos : 10-06-2022 at 10:44 AM. |

I was filing those under the division part as those were squarely aimed at the gay and POC communities SI

We've now had 5 straight months where we paid the minimum amount on our Eversource electricity bills because we generated more power than we used (or had banked enough power over the summer to cover the shortfall in this month's statement). We've paid $23.75 for "Delivery Services" each of those months. We have 253 kWh of carryforward left, so I'm hoping we can reach 6 months of paying $23.75. But winter is coming, and we get killed with electric bills in the winter.

Congrats.
Sometimes I wonder if we should make the jump and do it. But then I'm always thinking we may be moving in next X years. |

All you need is a long enough time period and it literally pays for itself. We’re probably 4 or 5 years from our break-even point.

I've had great success with my 4kw off-grid solar at our cottage, so we looked into a grid-tie system for home this summer. Despite a few rebates available the ROI was not attractive enough to pull the trigger just yet.
The proposed system was 11kw which after rebates was 19k. Our electric company doesn't just do a 1:1 offset, but rather they buy back excess power at about 50% what they charge for power consumed. I don't know where I put my calculations but it looked like we would need about 15 years to break even, give or take a year or two based on rate changes. We'll probably check in again in a year or two to see if any variables have meaningfully changed.

If you want some evidence of what it can do, here's our stats.
SolarEdge (this is since Early January when we moved in) Since National Grid didn't finalize the rule change to give us a better rate for power put back into the grid until late in the year, we're not going to break even for the year (We have through december in rebates, January will be partial, maybe February), but next year, we will not pay a single cent in electricity costs overall.
