Back again. Just some minor posts before we start up the next year. Week 16 Once again we get report cards. This time they bring mixed news. We now have four players in academic trouble, but one of them is freshman DE Bob Cantu, our dumb and weak walkon. Bob is obviously not one of the best and the brightest, as we have burned up over 17 time blocks on him and he still is getting two E’s. Way to go Bob. We scatter our last remaining time blocks over Bob and some solid seniors, and move on. I thought this would be a good time to show you the complete picture of next year’s freshman. Here they are, ladies and gentlemen, Notre Dame’s incoming class of 2002. All in all not bad, I would have to say. Recruiting List, Worksheet View |

First is the 2001 Darkside Award, given to the one player who least contributed to our cause. This year it is an easy choice. RB Rick Floyds’s 1483 yards, 10 TD’s, and 5.2 yards/carry stand out as being a major factor in our 8 victories. Singlehandedly he provided pivotal carries that led to disappointing victories. Thank god he is graduating. But now for a more important award. The 2001 Most Valuable Loser Award. This award goes to the starter that contributed the most to help us lose games. This is a tougher choice, as we have a few players that could earn this prestigious award. But none shine so brightly as ILB Butch Landdeck. Yes, our converted QB managed to start 8 games due to the playing time bug. In these games, he played at one of the critical LB spots and managed only 23 tackles for a 5.5 tackle percentage. Not only that but he had no tackles for loss, sacks, interceptions, hurries, or dates all year. Way to get out of the way Butch! He is one of the big reasons why our defense ranked low in quite a few key catagories. Butch also played most of the year angry which was sure to disrupt clubhouse unity. You have earned our respect! Congrats on your award! The award comes with a coupon good for a free small fries at McDonalds. Be sure to stop by and see some of your senior friends! |

However, real life has reared its ugly head in the past few days and I've got a work project that is going to be all consuming for the next ten days or so. It might be difficult to post much during this time. I'll take some time off from work after this project, so the the good news is that I should be able to post quite a bit after that. |

Godzilla, I suggest you run the Run&Shoot formation. With the sucky QBs you have, you should throw a lot of INTs. Another idea, would be to convert one of your bigest guys (OL or DL) to QB and make him your weekly QB starter. |

Kekkonen, Thanks! More coming soon. Work project is done. Game is patched. Time is ample. Time to get it on! Alf, Variety is the spice of life, isn't it. I wholeheartedly agree about changing the offensive formation. We'll do it yearly. Great idea. And we'll make the run & shoot this year's choice. One of my house rules is that the coaches handle the depth charts and game plans, so I can't select a particular player as a starter. But...the game seems to decide the starters based on the current ability of the player, without taking into account the position he is playing. So...in theory we could take a stud lineman whose current OL rating is higher than our existing QB's rating, make him a QB, and the coaches should start the guy over the original QB. Worth a try anyway, I would think. Great ideas, Alf! Feel free to play catch with and scuff up your game ball, because with help like this you can count on another one coming your way soon! |
