The backup QB came in and threw 10 TD passes in a game where he could do no wrong. 3 incompletions (one drop and two hit as he threw) and a bevy of beautiful throws as he averaged nearly 20 yards per attempt, finishing with over 500 yards. TCU was being very aggressive against the run so we kept passing and they kept failing to defend it with any kind of skill.
They had a WR that was unstoppable, Eric Nugent. He was a beast, just burning my DB's all game long for over 200 yards and a few scores. Otherwise we dominated in every aspect. I think the final was 84-24.

So we got the win.
A week after being national player of the week and entering the Heisman talk SR QB Devin Rankin had 6 turnovers. Our defense was dominant through 3 quarters but the turnovers eventually demoralized them and I had to hang on for a 45-31 win. |

Week 5 - Deadline is 6/6 (Tues) at 11 p.m. EST
Week 4 Results
UTSA 84, TCU 24 Florida Atlantic 45, Oklahoma 31 Week 5 Games Wake Forest (2-1) at #1 UTSA (2-0) #15 Georgia Tech (1-1) at #2 USC (2-0) #5 Indiana (2-0) at Arizona (1-2) #10 Florida (2-1) at #3 Florida Atlantic (3-0) In recruiting news, we lost out on a stud MLB to Florida Atlantic that we had been slowly catching up on, but we landed a 5-star athlete out of Indiana who can play QB or WR in the future as a consolation prize. WOOT! Coming into this season MLB was my #1 priority. FAU was his favorite right out of the gate. I thought it was an easy grab. Indiana wasnt on his list (nor was any human team) Indiana discovered him and added him and quickly took second place and had higher bonus points. But I had a lead and last week I scheduled a visit for as early as possible, hoping to either build a large enough lead to discourage Coach K(odos) or maybe a 1% chance of wowing him with my Owl girls. The Hot Hoots did work.

We blew Wake out as expected 76-3. That backup QB was hot fire again. The new playbook seems to really suit him, and it's going to be hard to put him back on the bench the way he is playing. RB Pierre Johnson also broke 200 yards rushing.

We had a rough 1st quarter against Georgia Tech as we fumbled on one of our first runs and they capitalized with their triple option offense. Their offense ran the ball very well against us all game and kept the ball most of the 1st quarter so that we were only tied 14-14 at the end of 1. However, our defense figured out how to at least slow them down after that and we cruised to a 73-17 win.
Spencer threw for over 500 yards with 6 TD's 0 INT's and also ran for over 100 yards and 2 TD's. Backup HB Jeff Mills had over 100 yards receiving and 3 TD's. Tye White had 14 catches for 181 yards and 2 TD's. Our defense held them under 50 yards passing and was led by Atkins who had 3 more sacks to add to his impressive totals. As a whole, we had 9 sacks on the day. |

We are doing a Triad NC Swing...He is camping at Wake On Friday Afternoon/then the coaches have asked us to stay and sit down one on one after. Saturday AM we are touring Duke and NCSU but he camps at NCSU later this summer. Then all the way to Greenville, NC to meet with a coach from ECU and tour their facilities...Then a 9 hour car ride home for my grandmother's 90th birthday party Sunday morning....I REALLY love my grandma. The allure of Duke is whenever football runs out, you have a degree from Duke. That opens so many doors.
It pains me, but I've told him SC (who really seems to like him) would be preferable to UNC.... |

Our most complete game in a looooong time.
QB Rankin was an efficient 15/24 301 and 6 TDs The back up QB got in late to go 4/6 and throw two more TDs Sophomore RB Elton Burke ran for 160 yards on 15 carries and finally, finally, finally our defense showed up. 18 TFL 7 Sacks 3 INTs 2 Fumble Recoveries and 3 Defensive TDs Florida ranked #10 was a joke. 99-10. It's ok, you got McLoud. Burke has not yet lived up to his numbers. His speed bumped to (I think) 96..and yeah he is fast but he gets caught from behind too much. Too many holes are open and he's a step late. Some players don't seem to play to their speed rating. I miss Pierre Whaley.... |

Found out during the game this week that our top RB is also down for an extended period of time, which leaves us minus our top QB and top RB for a decent chunk of the season. Our backup RB situation isn't the best, but thankfully we have a good backup at QB. He had another fine day this week, but has cooled off considerably after his wild first game as starter. Ohio State was punished repeatedly until getting a couple garbage time scores late, but we wrecked their QB pretty hard for most of the game. a couple punt return TD's also took away from our offensive numbers a bit, but overall another breeze of a week with a lot of potential signees in house. I'm hoping we can reel in at least 8 or 9 of them. Our LB corps will be scary in a few seasons if we do.

Iowa played keepaway in the 1st quarter as their first drive ate up 3:30 of the clock but we forced them into a FG. We brought a safety into the box the rest of the day to shut down their run and short passing game and it paid off big. We had 4 interceptions in the first half alone. We also had big passing play after big passing play as they could not keep up with the speed of our receivers. At the end of the first half, Spencer was 16 of 18 for 350 yards with 6 TD's and also had 100 rushing yards in the first half. Tye White had 6 catches for 254 yards and 2 TD's in the 1st half including 174 YAC as he used his quickness to burn them. We took a 49-3 lead into halftime.
In the 2nd half, we tried to slow down the pace a bit to protect our tired defense. But, our offense kept having big plays and we cruised to a 91-10 win. Tye White finished with 15 catches for 397 yards and 3 TD's including 229 YAC. Spencer finished with 613 yards passing with 9 TD's and 1 INT. He was 37 of 44. He also ran it 18 times for 171 yards and 4 more TD's. Our defense finished with 5 interceptions on the day, although a glitch in the game caused Burk to lose his. He intercepted it and fumbled on the return. The fumble was reversed on the replay but he lost credit for the interception. The most exciting interception was by backup RS FR FS Thomas Keller who made an incredible leap to catch his. He looks like he will be a great starter for us down the road.

Beat Georgia Tech, but not as badly as I would have liked. 2 punt return scores late really made it look better than it was. The freshman RB we have returning punts has been electric.
Also had a killer week in recruiting, allowing us to pivot a bit and target some other guys that we weren't going to get to before. If we lock down about 15 guys, it will be a killer 15 and set us up for something special in a couple seasons.

On call tonight and it is slow, so I got a chance to get my game in.
We cruised to a 42-0 lead at halftime over Penn State in a half where we could do no wrong except for 1 back pick that I made a bad choice on. In the 2nd half, we were cruising until Spencer got hurt. Fortunately, it was just for the rest of the game, but our backup QB Johnson had a very rough 4th quarter and we sputtered down the stretch but still won 63-10. |

It was the tale of two halves for FAU.
In the first half we cruised to a 56-0 lead. QB Rankin was 10-11. Their pass D overall was tight, but we gashed them up the middle for 10+ yards a pop and had 2 pick 6s. In the second half God mode D was unveiled for the CPU. 8 man boxes shut down my run and superman DBs picked off 4 passes. We won 63-21...but Ive never seen such a change at half time. |

Cruised to a win over Nebraska, their offense didn't do anything at all, and while our offense slowed late, we spent the first 3 quarters doing plenty. I'll be glad to get my starting QB back though, I miss his arm strength. He can get the ball into windows that Hodges can't, even though Hodges has been incredibly prolific compared to most of my past starting QB's.

The USC offense was kept off the field most of the 1st quarter against Alabama as they started the game with a long drive and then Spencer threw an early pick. Our offense actually sputtered a bit the entire first half as we had 2 picks and a fumble. However, our defense and special teams kept us with a comfortable lead going into the half. In the 2nd half, our offense was unstoppable and we cruised to a 105-34 win as our defense tired in the 2nd half and gave up a lot of plays.
Star CB Eric Allen had 3 interceptions in the game, although he lost 1 of them to a replay bug. He stepped out of bounds after catching it and the replay negated his return properly but it also wrongly took away credit for one of the picks. Oh well. I'm so happy to see him finally living up to what I imagined when I drafted him. Young RS Fr S Thomas Keller and RS JR C.J. Johnson each had a pick too as we actually forced 5 interceptions against Bama's QB which was the key to getting momentum. All of our usual offensive stars had big 2nd halves. Looking forward to seeing what they can do against Indiana |

We murdered A&M. They didn't stop anything and only managed a couple scoring drives thanks to a couple fluky deep passes.
