It wasn't my mind playing tricks on me. One of my friends captured it and put it on YouTube. In the Rangers-Red Sox game, Bobby V came out to pull Morales. When he did, he tapped Morales' cup, took the ball, hit him in the butt with the ball when Morales walked back to the dugout, then sniffed the ball. WTF!!!??!

Yeah, first team to score wins. Right now, does not look likely at all.

The play is ruled a hit. Am I off base in saying this should be an error on Helton? How can you blame the pitcher who did everything he was supposed to do on the play? The runner is only on because Helton doesn't throw the ball.

A little confused.

I think for it to be an error, it has to be some physical mistake like bobbling the ball or throwing wide. I'm not sure I've seen them call an error on a mental mistake like that. Similarly, they don't call errors if the fielder misplays the ball and it goes over his head.

I understand on balls where a fielder misplays it. Just seems brutal for a pitcher to get credited with a hit given up on something like that.

Watching MLB Tonight, evidently Bartolo Colon threw 38 consecutive strikes. Wow.

In Jamie Moyer's first inning, he got Mike Schmidt to ground into a double play. The opposing pitcher was Steve Carlton.

Even more impressive is that the Angels couldn't do crap when they knew he was throwing strikes (unless it was some bizarro strike zone)

Assuming Moyer pitches in the last week of the season, my daughter will be at least 3 years, 17 days old.

My wife was 3 years, 69 days old when he pitched in his first major league game.

I have really mixed feelings about the Phillies right now. On one hand, this is the team I've spent the past 30+ years rooting for. OTOH, I became a fan mainly because of Steve Carlton (to tie in the Jamie Moyer talk) and don't have any other connections to the team or city, and I've become increasingly annoyed by the way they've run the team over the past number of years. It's just about 180 degrees from everything I believe to be true about baseball. So in some ways, I'm taking a perverse pleasure in seeing them suck. I've started watching the Tigers (my hometown) and Rays (model franchise and fun team to watch) before I'll turn on a Phillies game.

In other words... I now know at least part of what it's like to be a Royals fan (minus the money to make mistakes). In fact, I think Joe Poz once wrote a blog about how bad it sucked to root for a team that was run in a completely opposite way to what you believe. That's where I am right now, mentally, with the Phillies. Enjoy Ryan Howard, Rueben Amaro. The worst part is he probably thinks the contract is OK, but you just can't predict injuries.

Yesterday was Vin Scully's anniversary of his first game with the Dodgers. He started in 62 years ago. Think about that. My mom wasn't even 2 years old yet, and he started doing PBP for the Dodgers. I wonder what percentage of all MLB players' names he has called?

I have struggled over the years with my allegiance to the Orioles. My love for the Orioles grew from the fact that my father was born and raised in Baltimore. He got me interested in baseball. You guys know how this works. Your dad says you're a fan of this team so you are. With the fact that they have sucked for so long, I can't stand what Angelos has done to the team and considering I haven't spoken to my father in more than 9 years, I don't really see any reason to keep rooting for them. Something just feels wrong about finding another team to root for though and I'm not sure who I would start rooting for at this point. I thought about becoming a Reds fan since they are the closest to Indy, but I'm not really that interested in them.

Was lucky enough to be at the Giants game last night. I've never been to a game where both pitchers brought their A++ game.

Cain is a stud and I'm very glad the Giants wrapped up his contract before the season.

Just catching up on WAS/HOU, where Edwin Jackson had a rocky first (but has settled down some). Locally they've been saying for a while how much improved the Nats rotation has been, to the extent that John Lannan - who in some years might have been at the top of their rotation - has totally squeezed out.

Jackson has been cited as being a big part of this and they seem high on him, but I keep wondering - are they overestimating his ability? Or is he better than I think he is?

Jackson was once a rising star in the Dodgers organization. By now, he's been around the block a time or two, but he is finally settling in. I think he has the stuff to be a solid 3 pitcher, and his no-hitter shows that he can have good stuff. He's been a trade deadline mover, so other teams see him as a valuable stretch pitcher.

He is still just coming into his prime, and he could give any team 3-4 solid years at least.

He's with his 7th team since like 2004. I wonder if he's a real piece of work to deal with or something. I was hoping the Pirates could get him for 3 years, but he's doing the Boras one year establish value plan. I'm guessing a reall good season could be good for him.

That's not really accurate. He has been traded 6 times, it's not like its only one and done deals. He was traded at the deadline back to back years, as well. His contract with the Nats is the biggest of his career at 11M/per. He's pitched 200 innings 3 season's in a row, he was an All Star in '09 in Detroit, threw a no-hitter in '10, and got a World Series ring last year. I'd take a flyer on him if he was in OOTP.

To me Edwin Jackson is like those guys that get traded a ton in MP sim leagues who are good to really good, but not great players who have enough attractive about them that they become solid trade pieces for something that fits your team situation better.

Yu Darvish keeps improving. Tonight, against the Tigers, he gave up 1 run and 2 hits over 6 1/3 in a 10-3 Rangers win.

The Rangers as a whole have been pretty damn impressive to start the season. If not for two blown saves by Joe Nathan, they'd be 13-0. No sign of a World Series hangover thus far.

I suppose I was vague. If you get traded 6 times, then it's gotta raise some sort of flag?

The one year establish value thing was referring to the current deal with the Nats. I think Pittsburgh offered about 3/30 but he didn't want it.

The look ridiculously impressive. And with Darvish looking like he may be everything Texas hoped he'd be and this team is super scary.

121 pitches in just over 6 innings, 5 walks...I'm starting to think we're getting a clear picture of the effectiveness of Japanese pitchers in the MLB.

That's my take as well. Nibble, nibble. Dice K clone.

Disclaimer: I haven't seen him pitch, but from looking at the stat lines, it's got that same feel.

Make that 2 years from now!

Though I don't hear as many horror stories about Wrigley - though I do know it is cramped as well.

What are you supposed to do when your 678 hitters are batting .067, .067 and .103? We're almost a 10th of the way through the season.

At least Alex Presley hit the easiest inside the park homer you'll see tonight. He didn't even have to slide.
