If I wanted to watch Notre Dame get crushed again, I could just watch the ACC title game on-demand.

Everyone knew this was going to happen. Give somebody else a shot

Surely Cincinnati could have looked this bad against Bama.

The College Football playoff is going to kill us all from boredom. We could have been typing this in January 2017, 18, 19 or 2021 for that matter.

One more reason for an 8 team playoff. Texas A&M could have exposed ND, we could be saying I told you so as Bama crushed Cincy and Oklahoma could have really showed if OSU belongs.

I like seeing ND get crushed as much as anyone, but it doesn't make for a great playoff.

The tweet has zero to do with the players. His point is SEC fans love to talk about how awesome the conference is and when they lose a bowl game like auburn to UCF it’s because they didn’t want to be there.

I think this shows that Alabama is amazing and there shouldn’t be 4 teams in a playoff. Why would you think Texas A&M would do better? They already got their ass kicked against Alabama.

And Cincy? With their signature wins being by 14 at home against Army and by a field goal at home against Tulsa. Yay

Don’t mistake this for me saying ND is great. They are good. Bama is way better.

Why play the games at all then! Maybe just let a series of polls and computers decide the best team.

College football is filled with completely unlevel conferences and schedules. This isn’t the pros. There is no way to make the playoffs “fair” without changing the system completely. Since that’s not going to happen, I don’t believe expanding to 8 or 16 games is going to do anything but ruin the sport more.

All the 'let somebody else in' stuff makes sense if there's someone else clearly more deserving. On the other hand if ND wasn't in and it was whoever else we might want to name, and they get crushed by Bama, then the same thing is going to happen with 'see, this is why the Irish should have been there instead' etc. How Team X that isn't there would have performed is and always will be unknowable, and I don't think matchups automatically get more interesting because a different school is involved.

At the end of the day you need an elite QB to beat elite teams. Ian Book is good, maybe very good. Not elite

Or an elite defense. ND has neither.

They were beating a "shorthanded UGA" pretty easily until they lost their starting left tackle and became shorthanded themselves. Let's not act like that game wasn't competitive or something

Anyone watching the game on Sling ESPN. It is "jumping" pretty bad. This is even after I turned it off and back on, and went into Sling to set quality from Best to High.

I don't have this jumping on other channels so think it is ESPN.

2/5 of the UGA line missing. Key defenders missing, one playing his first game after being hit by a car.

And they're at most the 4th best team in their conference.

Cincinnati is just another cute little team that might manage to finish 8-4 or 7-5 in an actual top flight conference.

The only thing today did was prove yet again how utterly ridiculous cries for those teams playing JV schedules to get near the playoff actually are.

UC was missing their best RB as well, but sure, UGA was the only team that was dealing with anything coming in.

Georgia also hamstrung themselves most of the season by starting a parade of mediocre QBs before coming to Daniels.

In seven years of the CFP system, you know what we've NEVER had?

Two first-round games in the same year that were decided by fewer than 18 points.

Yes, the year that we had the lowest combined differential in the semis was when UGA beat OK in overtime, and Bama beat Clemson 24-6.

9 of the 13 completed first round games have been decided by double digits, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's 10 outta 14 in a few hours.

In most seasons, there are 1-3 teams that are simply way better than everyone else, and then 6-10 teams in the next tier. It doesn't really matter if Cincinnati is #4 or #15. Neither Cincy, nor ND, nor UGA, nor {insert your team here} are on the level of the top-tier teams this year.

When these playoffs are over, there will have been 21 playoff games, and only six teams will have won at least one. And the winner will be a team that has already won at least one title.

So, yeah, Jon's right: expanding to 8 does nothing but create more first-round blowouts in an environment where there’s already a high percentage of first round blowouts. It’s not that they’re consistently picking the wrong teams; it’s that year after year the 4th and often 3rd best teams just aren’t competitive with the best. I think I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but those six teams who have won at least one game are also by and large the teams with the top recruiting classes this year...and typically every year. You can pretty much just pick Clemson, LSU, Ohio State, UGA, and Bama out of a hat any given season for the #1 recruiting class, and then keep picking from the same hat to get #2 through #5. Sure, over time, some other teams may become elite, and when they do, they typically remain elite for an extended period of time, (See: FSU in the 90s,) because the best players will always want to go to the best programs. It is what it is. If you're looking for parity, you should try another sport. College Football ain't the place to find it.

I has a plan. Since creating and rewarding widespread mediocrity is apparently the goal here's a starting point:

Every team is allowed 80 scholarships ... but each season you lose one scholarship for each win you record, gain one for each loss.

And your base number for the next year is whatever you had this year, not 80, that'll teach those mean ol' programs to succeed. Consider it penance.

Not a OSU or Clemson fan but if I had to pick one, I'd go with OSU to change things up some.

I was rooting for ND over Alabama BTW. I think we've established that SEC has been the best conference and AL & Clemson are the best football teams of the decade. That's long enough for team.

Oh, by the way.

Notre Dame _didn't_ go for two and try to get it to 16. They kicked so they trail by 17 (3 possessions) with 56 secs left

THEN they kick onside.

What possible sense does that combination of things make?

Totally immoral not to x-ray Fields at half-time.

I was really pessimistic coming into this. I didn't expect the defense to be this good and I thought Clemson would get the final score.

In any game I've seen this year, Wade sure doesn't look like a top CB to me.

Am I the only one who thinks Lawrence isn’t a can’t miss in a place like Jacksonville? He’s obviously very very good, but he’s going to a terrible franchise and he’s to get hit a lot by NFL defensive linemen... we’ll see.

He might struggle like most #1 picks, but Jacksonville is in a good place in that they have 2 first-round picks, 2 second-round picks, and money.

It's crazy how much motivation/ disrespect can play into a team's performance. Ohio St. hasn't come close to looking like that all year, but all the motivating factors were on their side, and they played like their hair was on fire all game.

Clemson did basically the same thing in 2016. Nearly blew their shot at the playoff by losing at home to Pitt, but made the playoff, blew out Ohio State and was able to get redemption over Alabama.

My question is, can OSU keep that up against Alabama? Will it matter? I expect it to be a better game than the ND game was, but it was clear today that Bama's offense is the best in the playoff.

Should be interesting

I've seen too many (way too many) great CFB QBs not be successful in the NFL so no, he's not a can't miss.

I will be rooting for OSU. Cannot root against the B1G.

I was thinking a couple weeks ago how I wish Iowa had not had their usual slow start so they could have played OSU in the championship game. I thought we would have beaten them. Now Im thinking probably not.

"Why even play 4 games? The number three team never has a shot...", this is why, bucko. If we had 8 teams, I guarantee a number 6,7, or 8 would go on a run every once in awhile.

The why 8 logic makes me wonder if they like 68 in BB. I mean #16 could never beat a #1, right? So why so many teams?
