Too freaking cold to be out there. At least the Primanti's sandwiches are pretty reasonable.

I'd read a Grant Bisbee article on SBNation where he mentioned running across them. He wouldn't post links because he was afraid of the Bud mafia coming to take them down. I wonder if they're still up.

The MLB being extremely strict with youtube is interesting. With the popularity of youtube, why wouldn't you want to attract the younger generation to your game? I understand, its the revenue from their own highlights on their website, but I think attracting fans would be better in the long run.

But, I will at least give them some credit. Their video section is really well done and they put highlights up pretty quick.

Yeah. I got out of my car and came upstairs and there was a guy on second. I looked at Yahoo, their boxscore said he doubled to short. Weird.

I was annoyed by the lack of the box scores as well. I know that it makes me a horrible fan, but I only opted for the $3 months rate cause I figure I will be done with the 2012 Pirates in less than 4 months.

Hello MLB - there's this thing called the "internet" - I can go to any number of sports news websites and get up to the second live box scores for free via the browser on my phone, but you want me to give you $15 to view those box scores on your app?

Compare and contrast this with the NFL's app - unless they have changed it this year, I could get live box scores of games via that app, because the NFL isn't stupid - they know I can get that info free any number of places, and they'd rather have my eyeballs on their app with their ads embedded.

When the fuck is MLB going to get a clue when it comes to marketing...

Is Bochy the type of manager that consistently leaves SP's out too long? Or is the bullpen really beat up/tired from the double header?

Yu Darvish had an outstanding start against the Yankees. He threw 8 scoreless innings, had 10 Ks, while giving up 6 hits and 2 walks. He struck out the side in the 7th. He pitched himself out of a bases-loaded no-out jam in the 3rd. He got a standing ovation from Nolan Ryan when he left the mound after the 8th.

edit: Looks like he's coming back out to start the 9th.

not sure why. I know hes not really a rook, but he's already thrown 113 pitches heading into yhe ninth. Got the first guy out and then a lines single.now they are getting him out. not smart imo

And now he comes out. Finally.

e: Why wouldn't you bring Nathan out from the get go? He has had a couple rough outings but he is a solid closer.

The first three batters in for the Yankees in the 9th were 0-9 tonight against Darvish, that's probably why they left him out there. He was still throwing in the mid-90s, so he wasn't tired. I'm pretty sure they weren't going to leave him out there for more than 5 or 6 pitches. Gave the fans a chance to thank him when he got pulled.

Darvish pitched great. The Yankees are patient hitters and it looked like they were trying to work the count like they always do, but Darvish was consistently getting ahead of hitters with his fastball and finishing them off with his breaking ball. Their only real threat was when they had bases loaded, no outs, and Yu struck out Granderson and then got A-Rod to hit into a DP. Kuroda was good too, but Darvish was better. Pretty impressive pitching tonight by the two starters against the two best offenses in baseball.

Evidently that was only the 7th time in MLB history that two Japanese starting pitchers have faced off in a game.

Giants looked like a team that got into town at 3 AM. Hopefully the late inning pitch at Posey's knees wakes them up for the next two.

I agree. He threw a lot of pitches in his last start as well(121 in 6 1/3). Not sure how many games they play in Japan but you would think the Rangers might want to make sure they dont overuse him early in the season as I dont think winning in April is the important thing to them.

There's definitely been times when I've salivated over his swing. Where he looks like the dude you can pencil in to hit 35 bombs easily. But then he gets so unbelievably cold, and all his does is strike out. If he could ops .800, I'd love him regardless of whether he looks like Rob Deer. Bit I'm not holding my breath.

Bucco pitching keeps looking great, I can get behind that.

Interesting game today in Pitt.

After three turns through the order, her are the stats for the Pirates 1-8 hitters:

1-3

A 2 out double by McCutchen and a HR by Alvarez. zero walks.

McDonald was simply dominant through 4 innings. In the fifth, he started to lose it. He hit Giambi. Walked the next guy on four pitches. Threw a ball 2 feet inside for ball one on Rosario. Rosario then shows why he's a young hitter and proceeds to hit McDonald's first strike of the inning straight to the SS.

The Rockies then blew a chance to get another guy in with Tulo on third and one out. They pay the price in a big way when Alvarez hits his blast to right center. The Rockies bullpen has struggled the last few games. . . they need to figure out a way to take this game. McCutchen leads off the bottom of the eighth. They don't get him, they'll lose the game.

stevew,

Help me out here. The Pirates have one LHP in their bullpen. Tony Watson.

Everything I look at shows the guy to actually be someone who is brutal on righties and ok on lefties. Last night he came in to get one guy out and Cargo took him over the wall. Today he comes in to pitch to Colvin and the first pitch is the one thing they don't want, a fly ball to the OF.

Now he's going to face Cargo again with a guy on second.

I know he pitches leftie, but they really should have someone in that bullpen who specializes in getting LHB out.

You watched Hurdle before, right? It doesn't have to make sense. We just didn't spend money on a FA lefty and really don't have any in the farm. Maybe Locke or Moskos some day.

Yeah, I did watch Hurdle before. He can be very frustrating. The thing I never liked about him was how much he loved to tweak lineups. It was like an everyday thing when he was in Colorado.

The first thing Tracy did was simply put Cargo in the lineup everyday. He struggled like hell at first and then started to click. I'm honestly not sure Cargo would have ever broke out under Hurdle.

Game two starting now. Morton vs. Chacin. Chacin has looked pretty good in his last two outings. Will this be the game the Pirates score or give up 6 in a game?

ChiSox and A's are 2nd and 3rd in the AL in team ERA. so far in there 3 game series game scores have been 4-0, 2-0 and now 2-2 in bottom of 12th today.

I'm NOT saying they are that team or are gonna make it that far, but so far this White Sox team reminds me a lot of 2005, but with better game management, and defense.

Bad news for Michael Pineda as he has a labrum tear. I feel really bad for the kid, because he's easy to root for and had a ton of potential, but this was not a shocker. When you look at his pitching motion, it just screams "injury in the making".

Hopefully he can eventually make it back, but even if he does, his arm is a ticking time bomb unless he revises his mechanics.

And wasn't there warning signs like decreased velocity in hit last few starts? I know he didn't pitch as well the 2nd half of the season. With this news and the struggles of Hughes and Garcia, Andy Pettitte went from being a luxury to a necessity. The Yankees really only have 3 good starters right now and don't have Montero as trade bait.

Eh, not really - nothing dramatic or out of the ordinary over the course of a season, especially for a young pitcher:

http://www.fangraphs.com/pitchfxo.as...ion=P&pitch=FA

His tougher 2nd half was more likely due to the league getting more complete scouting reports on him, learning that besides his fastball, he didn't have a lot else that was working really well in his arsenal. He really needs to develop a change-up to give him another weapon against lefties.

Last week's late inning meltdowns against the Brewers have set up the Dodgers for this week's late inning meltdowns. I'm getting the feeling that these losses could be toxic. You win the game for 8 innings and then blow it in the end with walkoffs on the road and giveaways at home. It's just demoralizing for the team. These losses start to eat away at the confidence of the team.
