Well they updated the forecast since I last saw-now talking a chance of a snow shower tonight-one flake is enough to shut down the entire state-expecting schools will be closed tomorrow now

Out tomorrow. Couple of admins I've talked to don't expect us tp be back until Monday. The 2 inches we got last night just added to the chaos on country roads. It's not bad here in town though.

Friday night is supposed to be 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ice. Wonderful. Snow I don't mind. Ice is another thing altogether.

And school is closed now, I wish they would just tell us it is closed tomorrow so we can plan accordingly.

It's not supposed to be quite as bad tomorrow morning. I expect delays but not cancellations.

It baffles me that over the last decade, we now have cold days from school.

Very happy for my Boston friend who's coming out to Vegas with us things weekend. Not such a big deal for me since its been in the 50s and 60s in Boise for a while, but it will feel like a different planet to him.

It's hard to get our Northern brothers and sisters to understand how ill-equipped we are with the latest "Less than Freezing" winter attire. For instance, my jacket looks like I'm wearing a hoodie underneath, but it's just the hood sewn into the jacket...it's a winter fake...and now I'm paying the price. Being outside for more than 5 minutes is a death-defying experience right now.

With the move to Greensboro, my wife bought all of us "snow clothes" so that we'd be prepared to go outside and have fun with the kiddos the first time we had a snowstorm. It's made a world of difference in my handling the cold. I had neither gloves, long underwear, nor a coat heavier than my UGA fleece in Charleston, and as a result, the rare times that it made it down into the 20s felt absolutely frigid to me. I've handled temperatures in the teens here with little issue.

You can't fake gloves and hats but you can get by without a winter coat by just wearing a bunch of layers of shirts/hoodies with some kind of outer shell. Even up here you'll see people wearing just a Kenora Dinner Jacket in -30 temps but if you look close they have some fleeces and other layers underneath.

Yeah. Sounds like it was a pretty big bust south of I-85. Not so much up my way. Last I checked (around 2 1/2 hours ago), we were at 4.5 inches and still falling fast. It has stopped now. Movers are scheduled for tomorrow to take our stuff to the new home we closed on earlier this week. I'm doubting that's going to happen now.

I've heard and seen similar reports in the directions of Charlotte and Raleigh.

As for the comments about the state closing... yeah, true, but don't forget that this is a rare enough occurrence (especially having multiple events in a condensed time-frame like this) that building up the infrastructure to actually clear roads, etc. is not terribly cost-effective.

We got 5 or 6 inches in Wake Forest, a bit north of raleigh. But without ice this time around, the roads were plowed easily and quickly, even the side streets like the one I live on. I ended up not cancelling my class at the gym at 6pm, no issues coming or going. I have appointments tomorrow and am currently expecting them all to happen. I won't have to leave the house until 11am for them, if it was early morning stuff I'd worry about the re-freeze, but I think I'm pretty much set.

In the same boat with Radii. Got four or so inches piled up really quick before it tapered off about 1 AM and then flipped back and forth between snow and sleet so we ended up around 5-6 all told depending on where you put down the measuring stick. Not a bust as such, but certainly well below the really high estimates some forecasters put out. I wasn't much surprised because the forecasters (TV and Facebook) all tend to overcook their estimates. Usually the high amounts are under "ideal" conditions and everything goes perfectly. However, it's been my experience that there is always something unforeseen that spoils the perfect storm and drags down the resulting amounts of precip or changes what falls unexpectedly. It can vary a bunch just over a few miles. We got 5-6, but if you go 30 minutes south of here, there's barely anything on the ground. Hazards of forecasting winter in North Carolina.

Forecasters got it exactly right (for once) for SE Virginia--they said eight inches of snow, and we got eight inches of snow, at least in Williamsburg.

School cancelled again tomorrow. We have 3 inches working toward somewhere between 6 and 10 according to the news. More shoveling to come.

It was 62 degrees at lunchtime. They are projecting a quarter inch of ice covered with two inches of sleet overnight.

Ended up with about 6 inches yesterday. Just when almost all the other snow had melted. Shoveled two driveways this morning. Ready to call it a day.

The ice never materialized here. But up in Fort Worth my mom and dad got nearly 6 inches of snow. It is all supposed to melt off this afternoon.

Lovely. Just got a tornado warning. Big storms in the area right now.

The webcam for my weather station is pointed in the direction the tornado is supposed to be coming. http://www.wunderground.com/personal...DRIFT6#history

We had another tornado warning in the area earlier tonight. This one, plus the one from a week and a half ago have been the only two I can remember since moving here. We just drove down to the small creek behind the community clubhouse. Normally it is a couple of feet across and ankle deep. It is now 20 feet across and probably 7-8 feet deep at the moment. A river about 10 miles south of here rose 12 feet in 30 minutes.

Flood stage for the Blanco River in Wimberley is 12 feet. It crested at 41 feet overnight. An entire bridge got washed away. Interstate 35 was closed in both directions when the river nearly crested over that bridge.
