Pathetic is totally the wrong word but I sort of witnessed a death unfold on Facebook. Girl I went to school with posted Christmas morning about low oxygen levels or some sort of medical condition (she was severely asthmatic I believe).

Her dad leaves a comment hours later that she's gone into a coma and now today she died.

Weird shit, I'm pretty good friends with the girl's brother too.

Maybe this isn't bad, and I'm the pathetic one for finding it so irritating...

So I spent a bit of time (an hour or two lol) watching bits of Brits Piece of Me show that debuted last night in Vegas. My critique is as follows:

It isn't that Britney lost her ability to dance... Watching her in the studio shows she still got it. I blame her heals (circa Oops she was bare-foot or nude sneakers) and her choreographers. I think she needs some Wade Robson in her life.

Still, I really really really need to get to Vegas and see it firsthand.

Posts ("shares" really) that cite Turner Radio Network as a source without realizing that it is NOT run by Ted.

(For those that think the name kinda sounds familiar but can't place it I'll save you the Google ... it's the brand used by the infamous Holocaust denier.)

I think one of the purposes of facebook is to keep up with what your friends and families are up to and stuff. If someone is jealous that you're someplace awesome, that's on them.

I tend to agree with this take, fwiw.

Hell, most of my enjoyment in life for years has been vicariously through others. And their's does nothing to limit mine so, you know, good on them & all.

That is just too good. Many times I get more entertainment out of the responses to The Onion than to the articles themselves.

Anyone else reading these, and sort of imagining which person in your news feed would be the one to make the statements?

Why do the most boring and uninteresting people tend to talk the loudest on FB? For example:

"a NEW YEAR!! a NEW ME...New look on LIFE...NEW POSITIVE attitude... NEW I DONT GIVE A FUCK about what others think of me I know who I am and what I have done or didn't do.. fuck all of you for any bullshit!!! here's to TRUE FRIENDS.. My life is no longer a open book to no one. I going to live my life like I was dying"

Really? You're quiet as hell in real life, not very smart, don't exactly have a fascinating life, and you are a townie (which isn't a bad thing, but it goes back to the fascinating life thing).

I agree. Are there limits in terms of taste? Posting photos of a really fancy dinner? Or if you're staying at a ritzy hotel/resort/residence?

My kids don't understand why I'm saying no to pouring water on the slide, waiting for it to freeze, and then letting them slide down in pads and helmets.
Hmmm...I don't understand either. Sounds like a great way to burn some energy when they're out of school, and they even agreed to wear pads and helmets!

Sounds like about the most safe form of "sledding" that one could do.

Hell, most cold places kids go barreling down hillsides on inner tubes without helmets on, and every year a couple get seriously hurt/die due to flying off and hitting a rock, or a tree.

Yeah, one of my cousin's kids in Tulsa broke his wrist and hip last month while sledding. He crashed into a concrete drain culvert.

The slide thing doesn't really make much sense though. Unless that water instantly freezes, 99% of it is just going to go down the slide onto the ground anyway.

I've quoted this person a few times in this thread. But saw these earlier and needed to share. From what I can tell, my "friend's" fiance's grandmother passed away. She had put up a couple pictures the other day with something along the lines of "gonna miss this wonderful lady!"

This, I believe, would be from the fiance's aunt. 2 posts, minutes apart

To which the friend replies with a "sorry"...and screenshots of her timeline, showing she never actually said she had passed.

Maybe I'm pathetic for laughing at the situation...but the idea this was the appropriate response "in public" made me giggle.

I don't use FB but to converse with one person. She's getting to be the epitome of the "woe is me" FB poster who also covers their page with motivational bullshit.

Her latest post laments that her phone was turned off because she couldn't afford the bill. This comes right after her posting how well she's bowling (which she does 3-4 nights a week) and modeling the new dress she bought.

*sigh*

Eh, saying "I'm gonna miss this lady" is as good as saying she's passed. I can understand the frustration.

Then again - I feel like you owe it to people as the recipient of "big" information (births, deaths, engagements, etc.) to ask the person when you're told "do you want me to wait before mentioning this on facebook" as a common courtesy.

The "big rush" to post about it is symptomatic of what people have posted about in here before, with people "racing" to post "inside information" to seem "cool" or whatever.

My niece keeps posting photos of her pasty baby filled gut every Sunday. I'm happy she's having a kid and her husband is cool. But cmon, it's kind of jarring and I've known her since she was like 4.

Someone posed a question about god and his existence and when did you know he existed?

I'm shocked at how many people "spoke" to them. Actually spoke .. not spiritually spoke.

I like how family members criticize you because you comment or like their status or updates, don't add their family members that you really don't care about, or don't feel the need to advertise your life on FB. I get why employers scout to see your FB pages/accounts.

There's a person in my feed who is 30+, a mother of 3, and she might be the most naive person I have ever encountered. Her post have the worse use of grammar I have ever seen from somebody actually trying. It's like she has zero clue where commas and periods are placed.

From an almost 40 housewife who has a slight resemblance to Skeletor, but who thinks she looks like Kate Upton, paraphrasing:

Stuck in traffic and called my brazilian waxer to tell them I'll be late, but they can't take me late so now I can't get waxed today and have to make another appointment...

Somebody responds with the obvious, do you realize you just let everyone on your facebook feed know that you get your vagina waxed.

She responds: haha
