Much better effort from the defense this week in a solid win. Sucks to have that blemish on our record, but hopefully we can still claw our way into a big bowl.

It looks like you haven't seen this yet, so I'm assuming 8 a.m. is a no-go. I can play around 10 if that works. I'll check in tomorrow morning after I wake up and see if the 10 a.m. window is a go.

We were crushing Army with power running and PA passes and took a 35-0 lead into halftime. But, early in the 3rd quarter, we lost our starting HB to an injury and I became too one dimensional and our offense sputtered a bit but we still cruised to a 56-0 win as our defense had their most dominant game of the season.

Rochester becomes bowl eligible for the first time with a 24-21 win over the Vipers. We led the whole game, but they kept drawing to within a field goal. Their late onside kick failed, and we held on for the win. Go Lake Monsters!

I played the Vipers last week, and the first game I played them I won easily, something like 35-10.. We shut down their option early and got out in front enough to force them to pass. But my xbox lost connection midway through and would never reconnect. The xbox ended up shutting off before I could reconnect and upload my results. I then tried playing them 3 other times, once the xbox died mid game, once I was getting blown out and didn't want to accept the loss since I blew them out the first time I played, then finally got a completed game with similar results to what you had.
Hence the 4 restarts blurb.

Gramm and I settled things on the gridiron today, and after some early back and forth we managed to snag a couple quick turnovers and capitalize to take a pretty decent advantage going into the half. In the second half it was a matter of trading blows, which proved treacherous, but we managed to get it done one way or another on most of our drives.
Our QB had this weird thing he was doing where he would occasionally just throw a shit ball nowhere near his receiver.. Not sure if I was getting set on those throws or not, but he was uncharacteristically errant.. Might have been partially due to the snow too.. Not sure. Our run game was on point for the most part though, and we managed to bend (contort is probably a better term) but not break defensively. The opportunistic secondary was huge in this one and we pulled out a 45-35 win. GG Gramm, we were thankful for every one of those interceptions, because we probably needed all of them. Until next time.

#6 with 2 weeks left.. Wonder if we can hang on and stay a one loss team. Wonder if we'll get some help and maybe sneak into the top 2 if we win out. Wonder who wrote the book of love.

Just had a classic game against Wake Forest.
We get the ball first and score a TD behind strong running mixed in with short passes. They score with an option running game and some good passes. They kickoff and we fumble and they return the fumble for another quick TD. Down 14-7. We fumble again. They score again. Down 21-7. Yikes! We manage to go into half "only" down 24-10 but they get the ball back to start the 2nd half. We force a 3 and out. We march down he field and score. 24-17 late in the 3rd. They move the ball and settle for a FG. We have to settle for a FG. 27-20 early in the 4th. They move the ball, eat up time but we force a punt. We strike fairly quickly to tie it up with about 3 minutes to go. They have a big pass play and get inside our 20. They then run it 3 straight times. We use 2 of our timeouts and they settle for a FG with 50 seconds left and we are down to 1 time out. We have a few passes that are short and suddenly down to 22 seconds left.... our TE makes a great play on a seam route to get us inside their 35. Only a few seconds left. We throw a quick slant and get it to the 28... timeout! Our kicker lines up for a 45 yarder... they ice him. He kicks it.. and it scoots over the bar!!! Whew! We go to OT! They get the ball first and we manage to sack the QB and force them into 3rd and long which we stop and they settle for a FG. We run it 5 times in a row and get it inside the 5 before a PA pass to our FB who is wide open for the game winning TD!! 36-33 win. |

Incredibly frustrating game. We played well in the first half and were in a great position with a 3-3 tie late in the half and we were driving and getting the ball back in the 2nd half... but then my HB fumbled. They pick it up and quick strike for a score.
Next play, I'm trying to move the ball quickly. I throw a pick 6. Suddenly down 17-3. A few plays later, they tip the pass... pick it off and return it inside the 5. Suddenly down 24-3. So frustrating with some bull shit plays. We manage to score even though we only had 30 seconds to go in the half and we make it 24-10. We get the ball. Another fumble. We turn it over. We stop them. We drive down the field. We have 2 dropped passes, both wide open in the end zone. Turn over on downs. From there, it was just more BS. Then to top it off, they run up the score late... rather than take a knee they run a QB keeper to score with 2 seconds left in the game for the final margin of 38-17. |

The defense came to play against South Carolina, but the game still went into OT because I made a couple mistakes in the red zone passing. In OT though, the D came up big immediately and got us a stop. SC kicks a FG and we come out for our shot. The going isn't easy, we suffer a drop, an incompletion on a contested ball, and a stuffed screen pass before finding ourselves at 4th and 11 with a 43 yard FG or a desperation play as our only options. We decide to grab life by the balls and go for it, and one of our guys comes open for a huge conversion. The momentum is ours from there and we finish the drive with a couple running plays to seal the win.
We had a hell of a season this season, but have to say goodbye to 2 solid CBs and should be a lot weaker on defense next year. We also lose our QB. It is going to be an interesting year ahead.

Luke Colvin had a horrible last game - he actually started strong but a tipped pass led to a lucky interception for NIU. Then, he threw one VERY wildly that was picked off... then I made a horrible decision that led to a 3rd pick. Despite the 3 picks, our defense played well and held on for a 31-28 win in Colvin's final game of his career.
