Interesting list but I have to wonder how long those studios would've survived if EA hadn't bought them in the first place.

Rock Band 4 is on the way.

Hopefully all the old instruments work for PS4 or there's no way I'm buying this. The developers are trying to make this happen but say they need assistance from Sony (as well as Microsoft on the XB1 side).

Assassin's Creed Black Flag is my most favorite game of all time (9.5/10) and last weekend, started playing Assassin's Creed Rogue (since it just came out on PC). For those that did not play it on consoles last year, I am 25% through the game and so far, I give it a 8/10. The map and locations are much bigger than in Black Flag - actually three separate maps (icy North Atlantic, twisty river valleys and NYC). Colonial New York City is about 5x the size of Black Flag's Havana. There are more things to do including the challenging aspect of having to find and fight against assassins. And there is very little Abstergo so far, which is definitely a good thing. The score is lower because the lead character is nowhere as interesting or immersive as Edward Kenway and the others characters that you interact with the game are mostly forgettable - nothing like Ade or the many piratical friends of Kenway.

Yeah, I picked this up today. Playing through the single player first. So far so good. I like the change to cops/robbers instead of soldiers.

Awfully tempting...

fwiw, the child got us both XB1 beta keys for Strife over the weekend.

I'm aware of the game, vaguely, from watching as he watched a few playthrough videos on PC.

From that limited base I'd say it looked like they did a good job transferring the game graphically to console, and that a few well placed labels & route markers & such made it actually more accessible to a complete newcomer than the average game.

Not my thing, not even in the slightest really, combat feels (as I thought it looked on PC) about like Fable combat without the RPG elements to make it interesting but the translation to console looked/felt pretty good to my untrained eye.

Anyone playing Bloodborne?

I liked Darksouls, but this game has been far more enjoyable for me. Love the atmosphere.

Pillars Of Eternity review | Rock, Paper, Shotgun

Quote:
It’s a triumph. A wonderful, enormous and spellbinding RPG, gloriously created in the image of BioWare’s Infinity classics, but distinctly its own. A classic in every sense.

Pillars of Eternity review - PC Gamer

Quote:
This is a big, fat, deep adventure that lets you carve your own unique path through a fantasy world that’s been brilliantly brought to life with rich, evocative writing. It’s a game steeped in a bygone era of computer RPG design, but somehow it doesn’t feel archaic. Obsidian have always been bound to other peoples’ worlds—Fallout, Dungeons & Dragons, Star Wars, South Park—but in creating their own from scratch, they’ve made not only their best game to date, but one of the best RPGs on PC.

Pillars of Eternity review - Eurogamer.net

Quote:
Pillars of Eternity is the Baldur's Gate 3 we never got, returning to the Infinity Engine style of role-playing with flair.

Once I get home from work I'll probably end up spending 2 hours creating my character before starting play.

The videos I watched, player creation seems pretty straightforward, but I guess you can spend that amount of time on it.

I just want to dig into the story with a cold refreshment by my side.

93 Metacritic rating so far too...

Won't be anything to do with difficulty using the creation tools, it just takes me forever to settle on just exactly what I want to make before embarking on a 70+ hour adventure.

GTA V for PC pre-loads are starting. Good thing, as the download is over 60GB!

Project CARS is looking really nice on consoles. The demo where they show a 43 car race running on the PS4 at 1080p/60fps is REALLY impressive.

It's listed as "game engine footage" so it's using character and vehicle models from the game but probably isn't a great indicator of how the game will look or play.

There's prob no cost to set it up and they'll pay cents on the dollar. Plus they may also be able to unearth some gems from attics that they can pick up for tenths of pennies on the dollar.
