Er, wait, I guess that would be Jason Mumpower, whom Williams defeated to sit as speaker of the Tennessee State House.

The woman featured on tonight's 20/20 for murdering two husbands, and then trying to blame her daughter for doing so, was in my brother's high school class, and had a sister in mine.
Closest I can come.

My brother was a casual acquaintance of Philip Seymour Hoffman. I was a year behind Kirk Herbstreit, but never met him.

My oldest step daughter is friends with the daughter of the bassist for Megadeth. Not the original bassist, but, the current bassist.

I like to think that in the future, all my friends will become famous.. Then I can post something more substantial here.

I played video games with Chad Pennington when I was in Marshall, but I doubt he'd know me.
I took a chair shot from Lance Storm (pro wrestler) during my very short stint trying to be a wrestler.

Oh, this deserves its own thread! Not the Lance Storm part but the "my very short stint trying to be a wrestler". You can't just leave us hanging like that. SI

Heh, agreed, WVU, that would be a lot of fun to hear about.
For me, probably the closest to a "famous" person (or people) I know is two guys in the band Zebrahead (for alt rock fans, particularly those on the club level). I went to school with the lead "rapper" and we were somewhere between acquaintances and friends. And the bassist was a friend who I played ball after school with for years, and who my bro played roller hockey with as well (my bro also played ball with him). Good guys, both, saw them at some shows later on, too, and they put on a good show.

Bump for WVUFan.
For me it's Matt Hunwick on the Bruins. I also, because of this friendship, played in a pickup game with Jack Johnson, Bobby Ryan and a few other guys while they were in Junior/College. I was abused and humiliated and they weren't trying at all. |

Have met a lot of B-listers and a few A-listers thanks to working in Casinos but I can't think of any that would really fit this thread.

You're surprised by that?
Then again, it appears quite possible that Lathum is actually in fact Todd Benzinger. Last edited by kcchief19 : 04-26-2009 at 10:56 PM. |

I don't think so -- they'd just be more boring. For example, in my case, the best I can think of is that I knew someone featured on Jay Leno's Headlines. Her last name was Weiner, so naturally her wedding was announced there. "It's the Weiner-Whipple wedding!" |

Not that they're anyone that the vast majority (all?) of FOFCers have ever heard of, but...
I've been friends for a long time with a former El Paso Herald Post/El Paso Times sportswriter named Darren Hunt, who now works for an El Paso tv station and just had his 15 minutes of national fame last week when he was taken down by a cop for trying to interview people about a semi that turned over on I-10. YouTube - KVIA Darren Hunt Arrested on I-10 El Paso Raw Footage My best friend growing up, Bobby Chitwood, is an aspiring country artist who tours the western part of the US quite a bit and apparently has a decent following in those areas. My cousin Paula had HER 15 minutes last week as well, as she's a Victim's Advocate in the Boston area and is currently the advocate for the family of the "Craigslist killing" victim. Her picture was in a Yahoo News slideshow about the arraignment... Craigslist Killing - Yahoo! News Photos

I haven't met the guy yet, but, my wife did when he came by to pick his daughter up from our house. She says he seems like a nice guy.

When I was at Huntington the second time working for Amazon.com, the local wrestling outfit ran a wrestling school, and I stupidly decided I could be one and tried out. Well, "tried out" isn't really the right word, since anyone who showed up and had the money got in the school.
Anyway, I lasted all of two weeks. Physically, I sucked too much to do it, and realized very quickly how much dedication it took. Anyway, the guy who ran the school knew Storm, who was in the area (I think he was in KY for some reason), and he came in and gave a pep talk. One of the idiots students asked for "EXTREME" lessons, so him and the school owner gave a quick talk about taking chairshots the "right way"(here's a secret: they hurt no matter how you're hit). We wasn't even to the point to taking a simple bump right, so the chairshots were way, waaay too much for us at the time. A few days later, I quit. I've been through basic training, football spring practices, and AIT, and this is by far the hardest training I went through.

Yeah, what he said. Tell us about the time you fell off the turnbuckle, face first onto the canvas. Or the time you faced a bear in the ring

Or about how they ran you out of the circuit because you were too good and wouldn't take a fall.
