He turned down Texas. He's a NorCal guy and a Cal alumni. If Cal sucks this year, I bet they hire Tosh. I think Coach O is the best still, but Tosh is like 1-A

Michigan always had good success getting an elite guy from California before Rich was coach. Hoke has great ties to the state obviously, so I expect a stud from CA most years.

Yeah. What is even going on with you all? Is it purely the school being stuck in a financial crisis as to why they can't retool and bring in someone else? Are they waiting for Rick's deal to expire or are they genuinely of the belief he can get UCLA back? |

School hiring on the cheap. Rick is a great recruiter, but he's sold promise and havent deliver. The way I look at it is that if he's good this year, we'll bring in some good kids and even some current verbals elsewhere. If he sucks, we fire him and with every new regime comes more promise.

Minnesota makes their first nice addition from out of state this year with CB Dinero Moss who had offers from Nebraska and Connecticut, also lead for his teammate Barrington Morris a DE/LB with offers from Nebraska and Syracuse.

The OU/MU recruiting battles continue. Mizzou just got a verbal commitment from Evan Boehm, the #3 overall ranked OG in the class of 2012. OU was the other school he was seriously considering.
Evan Boehm - Yahoo! Sports. More importantly for Mizzou, Evan Boehm and #1 overall QB Gunner Kiel have become good friends through the recruiting process, giving Mizzou another ally in his recruitment. Last edited by Mizzou B-ball fan : 06-14-2011 at 05:56 PM. |

Not really a big surprise. Both of his parents are Mizzou grads, I think. He liked OU, but nobody around here seriously thought we'd be able to overcome that. As for Kiel, when he postponed his decision, I grew significantly less confident. I think he was prepared to go with OU (or at least that's the word), but give Saban another visit and it's wide open. |

I get lost in the QBs 'Bama brings in. I remember when Star Jackson was suppose to be the stud in waiting only for him to transfer to a 1-AA school, IIRC, and not even start there. 'Bama already has two freshmen QBs so I'm wondering if Saban is looking at this as more hording, or he has an idea of how well both of them will pan out and wants to add in more people.

Looking more and more like the Kiel rumors were little more than message board trolling over at the Bama message board. Mizzou is supposed to be his final visit. If he gets out of Bama without committing, Mizzou loves their chances at landing him.

Pretty decent week on the recruiting trail down at the foot of the Blue Ridge....
4 * DBs Travis Blanks and Ronald Geohaghan commit along with the Nations top Punter and KO spcialist the 6'6" 235lb Brad Pinion. Then today Jim Kelly's nephew Chad the nation's 8th ranked dual threat QB commits. Add in local Cordera Tankersly and Clemson has 10 commits with 6 being rivals 4 * guys....No chance at the Top 10 class we had last year (the numbers simply arent there) but a good start none the less. |

Ah, who needs Boehm...
In a small class with only 9 so far, I think OU already has 3 guys out of Florida. ESPNU 150 offensive lineman Ty Darlington picks the Sooners Oklahoma has gained a Class of 2012 commitment from one of the nation's top offensive line prospects in Ty Darlington of Apopka HS (Apopka, Fla.). Rated four-stars by ESPNU, the 6-foot-3, 275-pound Darlington was also offered by Auburn, Clemson, Colorado, Connecticut, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Louisville, LSU, Miami-Florida, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, Northwestern, Rutgers, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, among many others. |

I'm really excited to have Miles as a commit, but having looked at film on both guys, I still think Lindquist is more polished and every bit the athlete that Miles is. But they're both outstanding QB talents, and it wouldn't shock me in the slightest if Nick Montana ends up transferring after this season.

WVU picks up a legacy commit in 3-star QB Brandon Napoleon (being taken as an ATH and likely a CB). His father, Eugene Napoleon was an exciting RB that was one of my favorites as a kid. Glad to have him on board.

Wisconsin has done very well. Up to five 4-star verbals. Five more of those than last year. Making the rose bowl is definitely paying off.

Iowa just received a verbal from 3* 6' 2" 195 WR Cameron Wilson from Dublin, Ohio. This looks like an Iowa type WR. This is only Iowas 2nd verbal. The other is from OL Mitch Keppy.

Twitter and message board rumblings that Gunner Kiel has told Alabama that they are out. That would make it OU and MU left in the running for Gunner.

Twitter and message board traffic today says that OU is out as well. Down to MU and IU. Mizzou obviously has the selling point that their last three QB's will all be on NFL rosters this fall. IU is the hometown school. We'll see which is most important. |

Indiana also has OU's former offensive coordinator (Kevin Wilson) at head coach now. Wilson was a big part of the development of Sam Bradford and some other top QB talent.
FWIW (perhaps not much), a well-respected poster who has called other recruiting battles correctly on IU's board on Scout has all but guaranteed that Gunner Kiel is coming to Indiana. According to him, Kiel's decision has been made, and he is just revisiting the other schools like Missouri to solidify his choice. I like the sound of that, but have been a fan of IU football too long to get too excited just yet (plus he did have at least one high-profile whiff last year with the Painter to Missouri rumor). But with Wilson, I do feel hope. He is really changing the aura around IU football. Last edited by Kodos : 06-22-2011 at 10:06 PM. |

Kiel's brother goes to IU and is the #1 reason he's considering it. With that said, sometimes that's a good enough reason. Distance was a concern with Bama and OU. Mizzou is less than both, but still about a six hour drive. Last edited by Mizzou B-ball fan : 06-22-2011 at 10:21 PM. |

Tennessee 4* OL Blake Bars just committed to Michigan. PSU told Mueller to walk because they felt good on two other guys, well Bars was one of those guys.
That makes #17 for Michigan. Edited: Technically that is #17, a kid as accepted a gray shirt which will turn into a regular commitment if S Jarrod Wilson decides against coming here. Last edited by DeToxRox : 06-26-2011 at 10:36 PM. |

Rutgers just got a real nice DE commit in 3* Julian Pinnix-Odrick, with offers from Pitt, Penn St, Purdue, BC, and Michigan St. He's got some good size and would look great on the opposite end from Darius Hamilton if we should be so lucky.

Butch Pau'u a 4 star LB from Servite in CA commits to BYU. He is a nice get. BYU is getting some solid linebacker prospects, to go with a lot of depth already on the team.
Edit: Add outside LB Trajan Pili from Nevada for 2013. He had a great showing at the All-Poly camp and will be a 3-4 star kid by his senior year. Last edited by BYU 14 : 07-01-2011 at 01:09 PM. |

Yeah, I don't think anyone's going to chastise Gunner if he selects IU. I wish more kids would look to attend in-state. With that said, he may not be so excited to be at IU when his sub-par receivers keep dropping balls or he has an injury due to a swiss-cheese offensive line. There is something to be said about standing behind a good offensive line or having top receivers to catch the balls. |

I will not dispute the o-line comment (although OT Roger Saffold was taken high by your Rams recently), but IU's receiving corps has been solid through the years. IU has always been able to get skill position guys, but had trouble recruiting o-line and defense. We've placed receivers in the NFL recently, including Doss and Hardy.
The rumblings on the Indiana board are heating up. Multiple sources saying it's Indiana. Let them be right. Smile on this alien's ass. Last edited by Kodos : 07-01-2011 at 01:35 PM. |

The top prospect at QB coming to IU would make me wet my pants. I would love to see the football team be as fun to watch as they were in the Randle El era.

Agreed 6'1, 6'2 instead of 5'11" would put him right there, but that is the only knock I have heard on him. He plays bigger on film and can definitely get off blocks, hopefully he turns into another Zach Thomas type Last edited by BYU 14 : 07-01-2011 at 05:11 PM. |

Obviously I'd like Kiel to come here, and the things I've heard definitely contradict any notion that he ever eliminated OU. That said, I'll have absolutely no problem with him choosing Indiana. For one thing, it's the hometown team. Plus, it'll be really nice to see Kevin Wilson get a guy like that up there. Could definitely mean good things for the Hoosiers, and as a person who never really cared much about the Big 10, I'll root for them, particularly against Nebraska.

Mizzou message boards are pretty busy right now. Rumored that Mauk will commit to Mizzou later this week and Kiel will go to Indiana. Both shouldn't be too surprising given the schools these two have eliminated over the last couple of weeks. Kiel was down to IU and Mizzou. Mauk was looking at Notre Dame, Michigan, and Mizzou.
