We got a soft verbal from the top recruit in the nation, Rashaun Drew. If we can get him to commit, he'll be a return specialist (just wait until next year Kodos-this kid runs a 4.26 and accelerates like a Ferrari) and I suspect I'll move him all around the offense at receiver and running back.
We got two five-star outside linebackers in Anthony Barnett (4.50) and Andy Doolin (4.35) this week. Last edited by Galaxy : 09-21-2008 at 11:55 PM. |

Barnett should have waited until our game and decided based on who won. He's dead to me now.

Georgia Tech gets soft commits this week from:
4* CB David Riley, a balanced CB with great speed and awareness, the #13 corner in the country. 4* C Aaron Dawson, the top center in the nation. Clemson and Auburn are right on our heels so we'll continue to push hard for him and hope he commits fully very soon. 4* QB Shaun McCaleb - the #5 QB in the nation, but, I'm not sure how excited I should be about an option team landing a pocket passer. One of the issues with taking over mid-season for sure. Florida is close behind. Two guys we've been going after have soft committed elsewhere. 4* JUCO Guard Joel Clifford looks to be heading to Auburn, and 4* DE Brett Fenner has soft committed to Cincinnati. Fenner we're still going after hard. Clifford is a lost cause. Last edited by Radii : 09-22-2008 at 03:29 AM. |

With soft commits, can you still recruit them and sway them (say you have the same interest level as the team he gave a soft verbal to)?

Yes, you can still recruit soft commits. I did that with Barnett, even though it failed and you got a hard commit.

I figured you could. I just wonder how effective it is. I see that Chris Butler, a 5-star corner, has given a soft verbal to Tennessee. Hopefully Ohio State (bignej) and I can still sway him. Last edited by Galaxy : 09-22-2008 at 10:52 AM. |

In my case, it was utterly ineffective. How cool would it have been for him to wait until our game and commit to the winner?

Brutal. I logged in and see that I am 2nd on my top 10 recruits, half of which have soft committed somewhere or another. I guess its time to work on my plan Bs. I did get a commit from the # 3 C this week so I guess that's something. I bet when its all said and done, ND has the top recruiting class this year.

Somehow - and I have no idea how - I've gotten into a battle with USC for a 4-star defensive lineman. He has made a soft commitment to the Trojans, but I'm still going to fight for him. He would definitely be the best player to come to Minneapolis this season, but it's going to be tough to change his mind.
I guess I'll have to spend all of next week's recruiting time on that punter I like.

I see Rashaun Drew as the next Percy Harvin. He's small (5'9''), but he looks like he can play at receiver and in the backfield. With a 4.26, 40-time, his elusiveness, and the ability to shift gears, I'm drooling at using the formation subs to get him all over the field on offense. Not to mention him also being a dangerous return man on special teams. I think he could become one of the biggest impact players in the country over the next three to four seasons.

USC snagged the top quarterback (he's four-star, correct?) in the country. A JUCO recruit as well. The quarterback class this year is rather weak.

He's a 5 star QB actually.
Bigsmooth with Washington just ended USC's season. 34-31 loss as he hit a FG with 3 seconds left after we went for it on 4th and 2 with 1:47 to go and failed to make it. Locker was throwing the ball at will against our defense as BigSmooth worked the Pistol Formation very well. Congrats on the win. I'm starting to think that my stick skills are going to take a lot of work to catch up with the top guys in this league. |

Wow....We lost a soft verbal, the top recruit in Rashuan Drew, to Ohio State. This brings up a few questions to mind: Do week-by-week games have an impact on recruits, or the current season in general? Did he just spend more time to get him to commit?
We are still strong, currently with the third best class in the country. |

I did put some serious time into him this week. Actually it was him and CB Chris Butler, but he chose to stay committed to Tennessee. I actually thought it was going to go the other way around because my call with Drew didn't go as well as I had hoped. Many of my top targets committed elsewhere this week. Ohio State currently sits at 10 commitments.

I think I spend 30 minutes on Drew, just to keep him committed. I guess it wasn't enough. Nice steal. Thankfully, we don't have to worry about playing him in Big Ten or rivalry games each year. I spent quite a bit of time on Butler as well. I know Tennessee is down (a losing record, I believe). Last edited by Galaxy : 09-25-2008 at 03:23 PM. |

Georgia Tech is pleased to announce the commitments this week of all three of the above players. The Yellow Jackets have now locked up 4 4* players and 1 3* player. We did lose two of our 4* targets as well, as JUCO G Joel Clifford commits to Auburn, and DE Brett Fenner is on his way to Cincinnati. Lastly, a new soft commit this week, as 3* DT Elgin Edwards looks to be heading our way. |

This week USC signed the #1 Tackle in the nation as we get our 4th commit in what is expected to be a relatively small class with only a few seniors and a few juniors likely to leave this year.

Clemson picked up some soft commits this week:
4* JUCO RB Thomas Davis...With his A rated speed and acceleration, he will fill the hole if CJ Spiller decides to enter the draft. 5* MLB Mark Stovall...Stovall has great football instincts, and should see time as a true freshman. 4* WR Nate Ingram....Ingram is also blessed with a high football IQ, and he's also a high jumper on his high school track him..could come in handy as a receiver.

In a fierce recruiting battle with USC (Eaglesfan27) in their home state of California, we managed to get the signature of the top SS in country with Kareem Thompson. We have signed the top cornerback, the top outside linebacker, and the top strong safety in the country. Throw in our commitments of the 5th-highest rated OLB, a five-star speed demon; a four-star defensive tackle, and a soft verbal from a four-star corner, we have the makings of what could be one of the top-rated defenses in the country in two or three years time. I'm thinking of using of one my speedy athlete recruits (either the one that we have signed, or one that we're recruiting) at the defensive end position to give a speedster of the end, giving a red-shirt in his first year to give him an extra year to develop and adjust. We'll have to wait and see what happens through the rest of the recruiting season and when we enter spring training.

I wanted Hughes. He'll be a force at the offensive tackle spot. Thankfully, we won the other battle over Thompson. We're having quite a rivalry on-and-off the field, thanks to our strong recruiting values and California pipeline. Once I can get this program back to competing for national championships and top-tier bowls, it should be a pretty intense rivalry. Last edited by Galaxy : 09-30-2008 at 05:41 PM. |

Reading over some the recruiting strategies that the AI had when Sun took over Penn State (RFL) and Macro took over a team in the EBFL, do you think the AI's recruiting model is flawed?

Well...it looks like they just overcompensate for positions they have a need for. I like to be pretty balanced all over when I recruit. In my case PSU was in need of a QB and they just went all out. I don't know if I'd call it flawed, I'd just call it different than what I prefer. Who knows maybe that's the better way to go about recruiting?

I think part of it deals with where it thinks the team could succeed, I noticed it with BYU as well. It had some offers out to players in UT which should have signed with them. I don't know if they were 3 or 4* I do know the 4* players were there though throughout some of the recruiting. It's what brought the big WTF moment for me though when I got Syracuse, then I realized they haven't been winning since McNabb and are in the tank.

With the struggles at finding an ideal QB for the spread at UM, I may have to make an overhaul of the offense next season. I can find pocket passers, but good scramblers is rough.
