2 things:

1) I love your title under your name. That made my day. LOL

2) Thank you for beating scUM. After the Wiscy/scUM game I was worried. Not so much now.

Iowa guard play is terrible right now. We have an injury that is really hurting us. Our all time 3 point shooter is struggling and our coach wont bench his son.

Going to be a short run in the tourney Im afraid.

Iowa is terrible. I will not watch another game until the B1G tourney. We need a new coach.

We are an average B1G team with a really good player and I do not see another win on our schedule.

I will spend my time watching our wrestling team, which is dominant and will win the national title this year.

Iowa is what they are. Certainly not "terrible". They are actually overperforming pre-season expectations in being a top 10 team. Currently 1st in the nation in offensive efficiency but 121st in defensive efficiency.

As Denny Green once said "They are who we thought they are"

While our defense is ranked in the 70s, our offense is ranked #2 according to KenPom.

Offense can be a great defense.

When Iowas 3 point shooters get going (there are 3 or 4 of those), watch out.
And our PG just passed BJ armsrong on the all time assist board. The BJ armstrong that won NBA titles.

Iowa is legut. And next week tells the truth. UNC on Tuesday, ISU on Friday. Then NIU and Gonzaga.

I cannot wait for us to ne ranked #1

Iowa has multiple ways to beat you. Double down on Garza and here comes the rain of 3s. Guard the perimeter and here comes Garza with 40. Pick your poison.

I would rather outscore teams then play slog ball and watch 56-50 games. Give me 90 points a game and let them score 80. A win is a win.

Iowa is a dynamic team and the best Iowa team since, ever? And that is comparing them to a team with 2 NBA players (87) and one with one of the best PGs in his generation (80).

As for the 2 young guys shooting[ CJ Frederick shot 48% from the 3 point line in HS. So this is not an aberration. Joe Weiskamp is the all time leading scorer in the state of Iowa for a HS player and was the first player since 2002 to average over 30 points a game. He did that as a Jr. As a Sr. he averaged 35 ppg.

Those 2 guys are pure scorers.

Iowa is built to score. They may lose to Gonzaga, but it is going to be a 95-90 type loss. More than likely Iowa will win the game.

Guard the post and you get UNCed, Guard the perimeter and your bigs get fouls and Garza scores 30.

Yeah it was Huggs. The officiating was pretty terrible and inconsistent for both sides. I don't think either coach was happy and once the game was more or less decided I guess Beard decided to get his money's worth.

Crazy game between WVU and Texas. Texas shot nearly 70% from the floor the first 22 or so minutes and had a 19 point lead before WVU took the lead late and held on 84-82.

Kodos I will add to the evolution as Iowa is back. CJ Frederick was hurt during that 4 game slide and I did not realize how important he was.

We are ranked 5th in the NCAA net rankings. And could win out.

I love college BB.

Iowa's Luka Garza broke the Iowa career scoring record yesterday. He eclipsed Roy Marble.

Advice for a podcast or something similar when tournament time rolls around to use as an audio primer for all 68 teams? It can be several hours or several episodes.

Also, go Wright State!

I'm really impressed with Chris Holtmann at OSU. He doesn't have the players to expect to be as good as they are this year.

Michigan has that loss, but they are national championship quality. They have guards and a 7'1" dude that can flat out ball.

They are my pick when I do my march madness bracket

Iowa put the hammer down on Nebby last night, winning by 38. Jordan Bohannon made 8 3s. He is with 22 of the B1G record for career 3 pointers.

I'd have a lot more respect for Iowa if their AD had told the Marble family to go fuck themselves rather than apologizing for a completely imaginary slight.

If they're too dumb to recognize the difference levels of success / accolades that Garza has earned compared to even the combined totals of two generations of their family, the university would be better served to not have people THAT fucking stupid associated with it anyway.

Naturally, the AD cowers with an unwarranted apology, cause 2020s.

Why is Garza's level of success different that Marble's? Since they are the 2 best players in the program's history and Marble led Iowa to a solid showing in the tourney 2 years in a row, I'm curious.

Garza is a 2 time B1G player of the year. He is a National player of the year and will be again. Marble was neither.

The apology was caused by a couple things: AD lost a gender discrimination lawsuit a few years ago, then the whole racism issue last year. The athletic program is not one to tell people to STFU right now.

He also said in the statement that Marble did not reach the requirements, put forth by the University, to have his number retired. The AD mentioned 2 other players besides Marble that fans wanted to have numbers retired. And none of the 3 hit the requirements.

Except it has not been put forth. Here is what I see from an ESPN article. Emphasis is mine

Quote:
Barta said none of the three met the university's criteria for such an honor. Barta would not disclose the criteria.

"Iowa Athletics, in conjunction with the Iowa Varsity Club, have had different criteria over the years involving accomplishments, All-America recognition, individual awards, etc.," the athletic department said in a statement. "Gary Barta and Iowa administration have been working towards a set of criteria that is more streamlined, in which exact awards and recognition are included. The top two priorities are individual National Player of the Year recognition, and consensus All-America recognition. Gary and Iowa administration will continue to work towards a more direct list of criteria that will be used moving forward."

It is clear that they have not had any objective criteria to this point. The criteria is we will retire the numbers of the players we want. They want to retire Garza's number and they don't want to retire Marble's number. That is fine. Just don't pass it off as not him meeting some objective criteria. There are nine Iowa players who have had their retired numbers. Other than Garza, none of them have accomplished either of the supposed top priorities, NPOY and consensus All American. That is not why Marble's number was not retired.

Iowa are entitled to whatever their reasons are. Own the reasons.

Dola,

The unfortunate part of all of this is this has absolutely nothing to do with Luka Garza. I am not a follower of Iowa basketball. From the outside looking in, if anyone is going to have his number retired at that school, Garza would be one of those people.

He also said in the statement that Marble did not reach the requirements, put forth by the University, to have his number retired. The AD mentioned 2 other players besides Marble that fans wanted to have numbers retired. And none of the 3 hit the requirements.

Thanks for the info. Didn't realize he was a National Player of the Year last year. I remember hearing his name a lot last season, but didn't see Iowa play much throughout the year.

At some point it becomes downright criminal that Bob Huggins isn't in the Hall of Fame.

One of them is a 1x third team all-american.

The other is a 2x consensus all-american and (at least) a 1x national player of the year.

I’m disappointed, too. It stinks that he didn’t pick up the 900th win prior to the finalists being announced, but I assume it wouldn’t have mattered. Maybe 1000 wins does the trick.

Complete, unrelated tangent (was looking up Boeheim to see how old he is - 76 and has 979, but I’m not sure if that counts forfeited wins). I looked up Mike Hopkins (who was supposed to replace Boeheim in like 2017 or 18, and noticed he’s taken a nosedive at Washington. He looked pretty well positioned there a few years ago and now they are 5-20. Surprised me.

That does not include the 101 forfeited victories.

I looked at Iowa's retired numbers and they havent retired Downtown Freddie Browns or John Johnsons numbers. They were prolific scorers who had great NBA careers.

EDIT: Or Don Nelsons for that matter.
