He should just take a look at the phone while she is in the shower to see what the texts say.

But it'll probably only save the last 50-60 sent messages, and about the same name for received.

So he might get unlucky and have a totally innocent conversation to read.

I think he should be more upset with his wife than with the guy. That guy never made a promise to his brother, the wife did.

But I still can't get over the use of "foul play" in the description of the situation.

Does the guy work for the government or a government entity and is the phone provided by such entity? Then, you could file a Freedom of Information Act request and get the text messages. Or, he could just ask the wife...whichever is easiest.

Agree 100% on all counts.

Update Part II

That last I heard, he did pay one of those $12.95 services to get the cell phone info. and it matched the name but not the address given.

To keep it short I called and said that I was from the Office of Institutional Advancement and that the hospital raffeled off 30 gift baskets last Friday and sometimes we can't read the names/numbers on the tickets.
This is the best I could make out on the ticket and tried several other numbers first. The prize was 4 movie passes, 30$ gift card to Panera and a coupon for a free fondue set. This can be mailed, I need a name and address.
So I got it. And gave it to my bro. It's their headache now, not mine. I'm done with this.
