I think that was just to let the guy know what day she came in. I'm sure he's got it marked on his calendar or something.

I've seen a lot of "My _____ is better/cooler than your ____" posts. 2 in the past couple days, actually. Someone posted a picture of SXSW with "My city is better than yours" as a caption. Another one posted a picture of some bluebonnets by the highway with the caption "Our highway is cooler than yours". Is this some kind of trend? If so, I don't like it.

Love my siblings. Hate sibling day. Sounds like something Hallmark made up to make $$$, and it got co-opted to social media for free.
On another note, I've got one from this morning. QUICK BACKSTORY: This couple has been separated for a while, and two months ago she made a public post on FB saying that the main reason is that she endured 14 years of domestic violence in silence. So this morning, these four posts appeared: HIM, 8:36am: Phil Collins - I Don't Care Anymore (Official Music Video) - YouTube HIM, 8:43am: Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight (Official Video) - YouTube HIM: 9:02am: Phil Collins - Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now) - YouTube HER: 8:58 am: "Big day in court today. Prayers and positive thoughts would be appreciated." (Based on the comments on her wall, it would appear that today is the day of divorce.)

I know two separate people on facebook now (one friend, one co-worker) who are on some fad "drink our expensive product everyday and lose weight and gain energy" program. And each of them are posting status updates about how they pop out of bed in the morning full of energy and ready to hit the day and are losing weight like never before and they can't believe how one simple change could make their lives so much better and, you know, if you want to know more about that then just send them a PM because they are totally willing to share.
To the credit of the people behind the program, these are pretty carefully crafted ads that really do function as status updates. You can tell that they are written by the poster, and they are mostly about how good they feel, with just a little hint of "hey, friends, you want to try this product, too?" I can see how it would be hard for facebook to police that. But I also think that if facebook does not police it, then facebook will become significantly worse. Have others seen this cropping up? Is this a known thing now? |

I've got a friend doing it too. She posted a nice before and after weight loss photo, and then when I (and presumably anyone else) commented, she messaged me with a sales pitch that definitely did not seem to have been written by her. Thankfully, she never bothered me again after I said no, so there's that

The next band/musician that posts whining about Spotify rates ought to be slapped so hard their head spins 180 degrees & sticks. They don't just take it & stick it on there people, someone with the legal right to do so has to agree for it to appear there.
More specifically the next wholly independent act who had to specifically & voluntarily put their music on Spotify knowing full well in advance what the terms were & that it was entirely up to them (no label involved, nobody else but their own precious snowflake selves) ought to be slapped so hard their head spins 540.

Jon, totally agree. There are some artists who are right annoying about it, when in fact you know when you sign with a label whether or not they have agreements with the music sharing services. If you don't want your music there, don't sign with those labels. Pretty simple.
Back to last week... There's a guy at work who occasionally wears an Advocare shirt and will often drink the drinks (and mix them) very much in public hoping for someone, anyone to take the bait but so far I don't think anyone has. I used to share an office with him, and I never did. Although I did hear the occasional story about how they would go to regional conferences about it.

The reality is that it is really, really, really hard to make a living as an artist of any type. The idea that the internet should make it easy to produce art and wait for the $$ to roll in shows a fundamental misunderstanding of how capitalism works. I see it, like you say, in musicians complaining. But I also see it with craft artists. Mrs. A is into homemade crafts, so I have dipped my toe into that world as a consumer, and I have seen "artists" bitching about Etsy because they let so many people sell on there that the prices are so low that it is impossible to make a living selling on Etsy. Ummm... OK. When did Congress pass that law saying that you had a fundamental right to make a living selling things on Etsy? And you know who else has to worry about lots and lots of other sellers producing products and keeping prices low? The makers of every single other consumer product in this country. Welcome to Hollywood, or something like that. Like in most fields, the people who manage to excel as artists have three things in common: (1) very hard work; (2) amazing skill; (3) luck. The guys who do this full time are producing extremely high-quality stuff out of top-shelf ingredients and busting their humps doing the craft fair circuit every weekend. They are not putting together some throw pillows with lace, throwing them online at insane prices, and spending the time they should be improving their craft writing essays bitching that they are not getting their share of the Internet money. [So that was a weirdly specific rant that apparently I had building up for a while ] |

This was pointed out to me by someone, and I don't know any of the people involved. That said....just....wow. If you are charged with murdering your boyfriend and another person, as is Krendle Bryant, it's probably not the smartest move to admit to shooting him on Facebook and try to defend why you did it.

Someone mentioned elsewhere that what's sad/scary/amazing on that front is that we're not talking about a bunch of late teens/early 20s. The primary actors--and presumably their friends--are people in their 30s.

One of my cousins that I haven't seen or talked to in a few years, maybe 5-8, posts a picture of a stack of 100s with the caption "Hard work pays off".
Next thing you know, 3 different women start commenting about how he should send them some of that money to help pay for his kids. They're arguing over who should get more, who should get some first... etc. Fun!

So now republicans are complaining about Fox News... This as part of a shared post that complained about how Fox News handled Trump at the debate, basically claiming about the 'liberal press'...
