Ok all, thoughts on this:

Earlier tonight I get a random text from someone basically saying what's up. Don't recognize the number, never received a text from it before, but I know my number got out from some parents at school and my son is in middle school so who knows. Anyway, after a couple of heys he immediately asks if I have an Xbox 360. I say yes, more curious at this point. Asks if I want to trade, and again, I say yes what's the offer.

He says 3 grams.

Uh...so I ask a little more and he says he has some chronic. I have to look this up as I've never heard of it. He's willing to go to 4 if the games are good. I assume by now he thinks I'm someone else. I text a buddy of mine who's a deputy and he tells me to call city. I do and meanwhile I keep talking to the guy and a deal. City never calls and the guy starts calling me which I ignore ,telling him my mins are up. I can only text. City eventually calls me and tells me they'll let the narcotics agent know tomorrow. I tell them about the chronic, his number, and how I know he's at his grandma's across the street from the elementary school in town. (WTF!). Anyway, they seem uninterested. I eventually delay the deal because I need to find the brick to the Xbox 360. I figure he'll eventually figure it out that I wasn't whoever he was talking to.

Kind of shocked the police seemed so uninterested in it considering the drug problem we have around here, but I imagine they figure it could be a big bluff. At any rate, I made my first drug deal tonight so there's that.

What an odd evening.

While working in Turkey, some US safety rep insisted on putting up exit signs in the Turkish building and put one by the stairs next to the Turkish army colonel that was in the building. He said, "Why are they putting this sign up in front of my door?". I told him it was a standard thing in case of a fire or something. He asked me if they thought he was too stupid to figure out to use the stairs to get out of a burning building. I just laughed...good point, but it was for visitors...so then he asked if we were too stupid to use this stairs if the building was on fire. I told him, "Probably."

In the US most exit signs are backlit such that you could find them in smoke. It's not that people wouldn't know to go to the exit, it's that they couldn't locate the exit.

My local electric company's meter reader apparently misread my meter by 1,000 kwh this month. That happens.

Their programmed response? The computer erased last month's reading, substituted the new one, erased last month's bill and credited me what would have been the difference. Apparently, its response to a negative amount of electricity used in a month is to back up until the difference becomes positive.

The problem, of course, is that next month I will be billed for an extra 1,000 kwh and whatever extra charges they have for someone consuming a Kardashian-sized amount of electricity in a month.

So I called their billing department. I got the guy from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. He kept apologizing and telling me he didn't understand. Too much money poured into it for him to be kicked out this close to graduation. And we've definitely seen the impact of merely the name on college applications in some places, I'll admit that. He's too close to escaping along with his cohorts for me to fuck that up for him simply because I lack patience. He's earned the right to leave with them, not for me to screw it up.

The change in administration at the school that began a couple of years ago with a retirement, well let's just say I don't know how long that name value will last.

That is...a crazy way to handle a misread. As a former meter reader, I'm familiar with how that can happen, but that seems to be an insane way to handle the problem. My company will either A) send someone out to verify the read, or B) estimate the bill based on the past six months of usage.

Also, I practically guarantee you will be getting a double bill next month.

Well right, that was the deal with Johnson. I usually leaned towards hot, but then sometimes I rethought that choice. Smart was one that I never thought at the time, but when I went back and looked I thought "you know...she might not have been that bad." It was tough to tell in the 80s with some of the fashion and hair choices (if you weren't wearing tight jeans and crop tops). I think she has also aged better than average.
