The "Nice throw, Johnny!" bit is just too sweet. They say America loves a comeback but we also love to watch someone violently crash into the ground with like, several slow motion replays.

Newton getting about 20m/season seems reasonable, considering that he was the worst paid #1 overall since about 1997 or so.

I think he's matured a lot over the last few years and has earned the money.

The Rams make all their picks attend some seminar and after daddy Fisher tells them how to spend their money they finally can sign a contract.

(Basically 90% of draftees have signed already)

We'll have to agree to disagree, I think it's a good idea. I thought most teams bring in vets or retired player to try to teach the young guys coming into the league how to handle it, playing wise and financially?

Some day some of those guys that really didn't want to go to the seminar may come back and thank the Rams for making them go? When they see their college teammate that was drafted by team X is broke and out of the league at 29 but they still have a bank account they may be real glad the Rams had the seminar.

Unless they are charging them a fee I don't see the problem. Once the seminar is over they can sign their deal and throw all of their money away if they wish. But they can't say nobody was there to advise them or help them out.

Completely agree. My understanding is the seminar is completely free and I think it is an excellent idea.

Anthony Davis becomes fourth member of San Francisco 49ers to retire this offseason

Is there something that 49er players know about this game that other players don't?

He just signed a new contract a few years ago that had a nice signing bonus. Quite a bit of it should be subject to forfeiture now. Wonder if the 49ers will push the issue?

Well, he'll be back by training camp, so not really a serious injury loss.

Broncos fans better hope the team gets sold before that dumb dildo "blood of the city" Bowlen, Jr. guy can take over. We always talk about players getting lucky and hitting the genetic lottery, but guys like Irsay, Mark Davis, Rooney, etc are way more blessed.

Saw news that Eric Berry is now cancer free. No idea if/when he'll be back to football, but great to hear that he's healthy.

Terrelle Pryor is now transitioning to WR. I think a better move might be to bulk up and become a move TE. Don't know if it will actually work, but it could be interesting.

Also this applies to the NBA thread, but Tom Benson was a declared mentally competent so he can now leave the team to his current wife. His grandaughter will likely continue the suit as long as possible

When are they going to check the mental competency of the Ford Family?

Thoughts on the "Manning was almost traded" rumors?

Denver can attempt to deny it all they want, but the deal makes so much sense that it had to be discussed. Manning's best case scenario looks to be first round bye anymore. The defense there is such that Osweiler is probably not a significant drop off in terms of victory production

Manning was still one of the most productive QBs in the NFL through about week 11 last season. Kind of like the end of Favre's career. It might make sense to just give him a shorter season and start him week 6 or so.

Hopefully it wasn't his signing hand, because I would try to sign his tender pretty quickly before the Giants can withdraw it.

And now CJ Wilson of the Bucs lost a couple fingers due to fireworks. How long until the NFL mandates a no fireworks clause in player's contracts.

I quit messing with fireworks when I had a firecracker go off in my hand. My ears were ringing for a while.
