I can't imagine what would be going through my mind if I just spent two-plus months in a collapsed mine and knew I would be rescued in a matter of hours.

Used it for a presentation in class last month. I was morbidly looking for some lord of the flies type shit. I got a 94/100, all the questions wrote themselves basically. "Why would someone ignore safety concerns, etc".

Oh, LOL I forgot the best detail was that a woman figured out at one point that she had set up vigil next to her husband's mistress. He is fucked when he gets out.

I guess it us really hard to get a divorce in Chile because several of these guys had long separated. Wives crawling out of the woodwork trying to claim portions of wages. These guys made roughly 20K USD per year. Some of them were NBA style supporting an entourage and there was some fallout between wives and parents IIRC.

dola -

Did some internet reading on the miner stuff. Something interesting I came across. The miners all made of a pledge that nobody would ever speak about what happened in the first 16-17 days before they made contact with the top. Doesn't that add some crazy mystery to what happened down there? I can't imagine.

It's obvious the Chile government produced this rescue into an attraction almost, but the fact that they had a live camera feed IN THE FUCKING MINE OF THE CAPSULE LANDING WAS FUCKING AWESOME

Some day, one of the miners will be in another stressful situation when he will break this pledge. Then A MOTHERFUCKIN SHARK ATE HIM.

Guy #2 didn't seem all that thrilled to see his wife, they kept the camera on her for 10 minutes and when he came up he hugged her and moved on. Wonder if he's the one that knows the game is up when he gets home?

How awesome would it have been if David Blaine was the first person pulled out of the mine?

When they bring the last miner to the surface, how bad would this be: They hand him a bottle of coke & he does the stereotypical bottle to the sky moment of refreshment... "The Chilean Mine Rescue, brought to you by Coca Cola. Have a Coke & A Smile!"

My boss is currently looking under every rock he can find for anything on me. We have a "meeting" scheduled for tomorrow morning to talk about an account I work on...one that would pull me off a job in order to make. The problem with that? I'm already short hours. Why not have this meeting during a time that I won't be busy? I believe it's my boss's idea.

I spoke to the salesman of the account earlier today. He said it looked like my boss was being pretty shady and trying to pin a bunch of stuff on me. I explained to the salesman that I have a repair job to do in the morning. I'm trying to get the salesman to reschedule the meeting or just cover for me so I don't have to be there.

This party sucks.

There's something George Costanzaish about this plan.

I guess worst case scenerio, sales isn't the worst thing to be looking for a job in. And turnover is crazy, so it's not like being let go as a teacher (which is almost impossible unless you touch someone inappropriately).

Regardless of the outcome, I'd be looking for somewhere else to go just based on that statement alone.

Yeah, I'm currently looking for a new job. For the record, I do maintenance and repairs on HVAC equipment. I work with salesmen from time to time with larger accounts.

As of right now, I'm clear of the meeting. I'm trying to steer clear of the office quite a bit these days.

We're apparently hanging on by a thread to the last remaining regular client we have. As our contacts have been steadily diluted, we down to things like "we want to keep using you just like we have been for as long as they'll let us ... we just don't know how much longer we're going to be given that option".

Such a fun time, truly.

I've been hearing some more of this news lately from friends. It feels like there's some second wave wiping out some of those who escaped the first crap pile of this mess

So I got called into the office by the boss...and he was rather bitter about it. Seems he had been trying to reach me via cell phone about once an hour while I was repairing a unit in a sub-basement. I didn't have a cell signal until I stepped out of the building to leave. I did go to the office, but I stopped by my girlfriend's home to drop off a few of my personal items in case they asked for the truck back and gave me the "You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here" speech. To be honest, with how irate the boss sounded, I thought I was done.

45 minutes later I'm in the office (with my Iphone recording the conversation) and I can't believe that this is my boss. He was super calm and collected. Asked me a few things about what's been going on lately...and really didn't try to belittle me like he has in the past (hence the recording of the conversation). Said we needed to meet again next week, but that he would be out of town until Thursday of next week.

My thought as he was phrasing that sentence:
"Sweet, I have a job through next week."

I have to say, that was the calmest, most professional conversation I've had with that man in the past year. Hands down.
