the original picture was the image link's location ON FACEBOOK. (scary i know)
I guess that confirms that fb hides its stuff from certain shady outsiders it doesn't trust. I saved it to my computer and uploaded it to an image site and reffed it there |

Well I guess that means we're not FB friends then doesn't it? We can fix that, but I have no idea what your account is.

I actually don't think it has anything to do with fb friends. Jon saw it and he isn't a friend. I see this happen with redirecting jpgs and gifs and pngs picture files a lot. Not usually here...but on another site I'm on. THings get blocked from certain sites all the time. Perhaps it's because those other sites are gaming sites and one being a poker site. I don't know. Also there is a thing with SOME sites that it's always in a state of flux what they are pointed to...whether it is the main picture or a thumbnail or a big picture or empty and it changes depending on time of day. There's a site called pop or something that that happens all the time. Those pics I posted were directly from facebook so I wouldn't doubt they have weird fluctuating security measures to keep all their content to themselves. (and anything you upload there IS theirs to them) |

Wrapped up #9 visit to the vet in 2020. 4 vet visits with our dog - a regular checkup, and then an ER appointment and two follow-up visits related to a nose injury caused by some kind of chemical burn he's fully recovered him (Best guess is he got into some kind of recklessly disposed of lawn treatment chemicals on a walk or something). And now 5 vet visits with our senior foster dog I posted about a while ago. Her vet wanted to wean her off her seizure pills (pentobarbital), and a month after that process ended - amazingly, lots and lots of seizures started. 14 in a week or so according to our seizure journal. The vet office who made that recommendation is out of commission during COVID, so we got a different vet to put her back on the seizure meds. She pretty much immediately started losing mobility and energy until this morning, when she's completely immobile and won't eat. It is a harsh drug, and we also expect she has underlying conditions that may have been exacerbated.
She's now spending some time at the incredible Boise ER Vet for a day or two and we'll see what happens. But it very well could have been a one-way trip as well. Fostering dogs is an incredible, worthwhile, and confusing experience. Going through this kind of thing with your own dog is one thing. Going through this with someone else's dog when you have no official authority to direct treatment is something else. The head of the charity is incredible, has been by our side and commuting with us in real time during all of this, has an ability to communicate with vets in a more knowledgeable way than I could - and somehow has time to do this same thing with many other fosters. Having someone else making these calls does take away one part of the anxiety - those decisions, and the internal doubt of whether you're doing the right thing. That is not our role here. And the vet experience during COVID is different. A lot of waiting in the car and talking to vets on the phone from your car. I will do it again, after a break, but there's so much I wish I knew going in. This is a new organization and I think I want to offer to write a handbook or something for new fosters. So it's been exhausting, time consuming, stressful, expensive (though the organization covers most of the bills, we can't help but chip in), but I'm so proud and happy too that we were able to do this and got to spend a few months, even if that's all it ends up being, with Loba. She had a lot of hardships and took an incredible journey to get to us. She has a big personality and loves everyone. We watched them carry her into the ER vet on a stretcher and I saw a little twinkle in her eye as she looked at the vet and the vet techs - she was still excited to meet some new people, even though she couldn't move. She really has changed our lives a lot. We came home without her and our dog at home kept glancing at the door as if we forgot someone. Last edited by molson : 05-06-2020 at 02:06 PM. |

Went out to the local convenience store today wearing the first T-shirt I happened to pick out of the wardrobe. Got a lot of looks, and a good number of tuts (that’s strong here!).
So I’m guessing an Anthrax ‘Among The Living’ T is not thought of as appropriate in pandemic times

When I ran into a #19 athletes quiz at Sporcle (hey, it featured at the front page, making this obvious clickbait for me), I got really depressed that it was filled with only players from the big sports leagues in the USA and this quiz in particular being dominated with NHL and MLB players. Nothing against the noble sports of ice hockey (I feel bad for not knowing Steve Yzerman, dare I say IJzerman, wore #19) and basketball, they're just too long a season to get into. Let's not get into my disliking of the MLB. But more importantly, it had only one player from the NFL (out of 16). I got that one correctly (I would actually feel bad not getting that one right), but right after immediately gave up on the rest. Still, a disappointment compared to how promising it sounded.

I still get pop up ads every so often. I guess I am used to it now and actually have been interested to see the ads that pop up for different threads. Pro/Anti Trump ads for some threads and mask ads for the virus associated threads. Those make sense to me. As I type this, I see one for a real estate agent and one for Salomon shoes(?). Random but I can piece together why it would be there.
Earlier I clicked on the main OT page. An ad for some sort of DIY trying to get me to stop using toilet paper popped up. It also had with a picture of a toilet bowl appears to have overflowed with crap. What does that say about the main OT page?

Like I said, I could block them but the pop ups have become a fascinating add on to the thread I am looking at. I am never clicking on any of them but it is still interesting.

So people are actually complaining that Adelle lost weight?
And apparently if you compliment her for it you're a terrible person? I'm afraid where society is headed.

Yeah, that's been a headshaker. (not so much a scratcher 'cause it was predictable really). For me (since Twitter made me aware of it) it's the same as my take with people I actually know: it's your body, if you're happy then I'm happy you're happy. I wasn't griefing her at her old weight, I ain't griefing her at her new weight.

I kinda go both ways on the Adelle issue.....it seems like there is a pseudo-woke movement that is kind of blurring the very fine line between "accepting and loving the shape of one's (and other's) own body" and painting obesity as a healthy & sustainable lifestyle...and that minefield gets even muddier when talking about a public figure.

It certainly is a strange space. We crush people who smoke or drink too much, but can't do the same for people who are obese ( not saying we should, just that we can't). |

I also thought there was some pushback against her diet, which relies on eating 1000 calories a day (though I guess not all the time?) which some thought was not a great incentive for her fans.

Fair warning, I am going to break the guy code! I am sure that there are people who feel that Adele turned her back on them now that she can no longer be held up an icon for big women. However most of the people I have seen complaining have complained about the reaction that people have had to Adele losing weight. Maybe people are complimenting her for her weight loss for accomplishing a goal that she had and that made her happy. Maybe she lost weight because she was tired of being shamed for being fat and did so in dangerous manner. I don't know if she has explained her reasoning publicly. But I feel like it would be really shitting if it was the latter and not something that was worthy of compliments. Ultimately, I don't think most people gave it that much thought. They are complimenting her because she became more attractive to them because of the weight loss. I don't think that makes anyone a terrible person necessarily. IT does say something about how their feelings about the attractiveness of fat women. To each his or her own.

Who writes tax laws. For reals. This week I'm aiming to wrap my head more specifically around what I need to track, how, where, etc. for this whole self-employment thing. And it's become clear I need professional help with this, even though I'm pretty good with numbers in general and better at tax stuff than the average joe, but I need to know what I don't know - so I have an appointment tomorrow with a professional.
But seriously what the French toast. How do you call something 'estimated quarterly tax payments', when they literally aren't made quarterly. January, April, June, September (when not delayed due to a global pandemic). April-June is not a quarter of the year. Neither is September-January. Would it have been that difficult just to go January, April, July, October and have this make sense? What even is the purpose of this? Last edited by Brian Swartz : 05-11-2020 at 06:57 PM. |

We have a Kirby and I picked up a roomba 980 last summer. We were amazed at how many times we ran that damn thing in our living room consecutively before it stopped being full after a run (I think it was 3 runs or maybe 4?). That's with 1 cat and 1 dog. It's probably the best investment we've made as far as home cleaning/care goes. I can't imagine not having one now. |

A few thousand, based on early, rough calculations. The fun part so far is that I can't find two reputable sources that agree, but basically I'm probably going to play it safe for now. Don't have to do anything till July anyway so there's a bit of time yet, but I typically have been paying in a few hundred with a regular job, withholding, etc. before you consider the payroll taxes I'll be forking over now since nothing's withheld anymore.

So, there are officially fewer than 24 hours left before I become a parent for the first time. As crazy as the last 38 weeks of pregnancy have been, building the nursery, etc...it still hasn't really sunk in yet. I'm super excited, but man.
