Also, I read this: "During the panel, Mitch (Mitchell Hurwitz - the show's creator) says a 10 episode season is planned with each episode focusing on a character and all of it leads into the movie." Last edited by Big Fo : 10-02-2011 at 04:49 PM. |

I don't see how it can be true unless they are going to air it online? No way it comes back to Fox and if it does, Arnett cannot possibly be in it with his NBC show.

It would have to be a mid season fill in, or something during the summer. Fox isn't exactly hurting for shows and AD was never that big in ratings to start with and a break won't help, see writer's strike. Part of me thinks it was a great show, but I'm not sure how much it was built for the long term, but then you see stuff like Seinfeld.

The thing about Arrested Development, is there were so many people who got into the show (myself included) AFTER the show went off the air. If I remember correctly, Fox really didn't do this show any favors by not giving it a good slot (I think it was on Sundays?).
Fast forward 5 years, and there are tons of people who watched the show on DVD. Call me crazy, but I think if they legitimately relaunched the show on a longer term basis, it would be really successful due to the following they have now. I guess part of the problem is the characters have most likely aged too much. |

I just hope it's good. Some of the post-AD work by Hurwitz doesn't exactly inspire me.

I hope there's a sequence to the shows, because by the sound of the way they did it, it seems like it could be rough watching randomly.

From what I understand its the same story told in 15 different POVs. Or at least covers the same timeframe and some stories cross into other stories.
So it could be easily watched randomly.

Storywise I'm not so worried, it's the idea of jokes being setup in one episode, and payed off in other episodes that has me on the fence. If I'm watching the Gob episode and get a set up, and watch the Buster episode 2 days later, I don't want to have to think back to what the set up was. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited as hell and I'll watch them all, over and over, but I don't want the weaving to be too ambitious, I just wanna laugh. |

Its probably the best show to try an idea that could be too clever for its own good though.

Ya, I don't go into an Arrested Development episode thinking I'll catch all the jokes the first time through. The format for the new season is gimmicky but it's a gimmick that's right in the Arrested Development wheelhouse, I'm sure they'll deliver. |

Enjoying it for the most part, but that might be in comparison to most of the other crap out there. Hate the George Michael parts. Makes me dislike Michael Cera even more.

I've watched the first two and while I enjoyed them on a certain level, I think they way they had to shoot this thing has really hampered the style. Watching the same two or three characters for 30 minutes starts to wear thin. A lot of the jokes seem to land heavier when you can't move around as much and cut to other situations.
Also did not like the tone of Michaels character at all in episode one. Yes, he was always selfish and single minded, especially when it came to George Michael, but they really dumbed his ass down for episode 1. |

Alright, a little bit of truth here. The 3rd season sucked. This is better than that was. It's got a lot of time, and plot to create/make, but all in all, it is pretty damn entertaining and I have laughed at parts in each of the first 3 episodes.
There are lots of jokes that just slide by unless you are paying attention just like the original series. That's really the beauty of the show. My complaints are like Suicane said, Michael's character took a bit of a turn for the worse, and damn if Portia has had so much work done that she doesn't even look like she used to. I'd still watch her eat pussy though, but that's a completely different show.

I watched the first five yesterday. They are pretty good. Better than season 3, but when you have a cast that isn't available they did what they could.
Michael's character was odd in the first episode even though I thought the funniest piece of the five episodes was when George Michael crossed off 'Da' and wrote Michael. |

Ten episodes in and I'm still not sure what I think. No real laugh out loud moments and the episodes overlap so much that it feels like I've gotten three or four episodes worth of actual new material so far.

Agreed. It's borderline distracting. I'm about 3 episodes in, and I have had the occasional laugh, but much of the fun of the old show came from all of the family interplay, and you just aren't getting that in these episodes. At least not yet. I am still confident it will all come together, but it feels a little sloggy early on, which is not good.

I couldn't figure out if it was her or someone that kinda sorta looked like her that they got because she wasn't available and signed on for some sort of agreement to be replaced with a double. Wow. /tk

In the middle of episode 8 and I'm really starting to enjoy it. I'm loving the way the story is being weaved together and outside of Micheals episodes I'm enjoying the characters. I think that it was just jarring at first with so many new characters that made it feel off.

It really picked up the last five episodes. It's more like a long movie with a slow start that is needed to setup the rest of the movie.
