Haha. While visiting family for Thanksgiving, I noticed in the top of my parents' kitchen cabinet these same glasses. I'm pretty sure they were held as collector's items and so haven't been used. I guess somewhat surprisingly they really haven't morphed into high value collector's items after 35 years.

Gah, my mom took every kid our apartment complex to see Jedi and we went to Burger King afterwards and we all got one of those glasses. Believe I still had mine till about 10 years ago.

Look at it this way guys - the ridiculous amount of merchandising is what gives JJ the huge budget to actually make the film.

Going Thursday night. It's been a long wait since 1983 for a fourth Star Wars movie.

Also - I highly recommend fans of the original Trilogy check out the 'Despecialized Edition'

http://motherboard.vice.com/read/sta...iginal-trilogy

A group of people put in an insane amount of work to create the highest possible digital version of the original trilogy staying loyal to the theatrical releases and cutting out all the revisionist history BS.

The write-up is great, the video explaining the process is pretty mind blowing, and they straight up tell you where you should go look for it on their facebook page.

It's crazy that I probably hadn't seen the original versions since the late 80s while sleeping over at friend's houses and watching their VHS copies.

Good thing the movie comes out in 36 hours! And I feel like 98% of those are easy enough to avoid - I'll just skip anything with Star Wars in the title until I see it early next week.

Hateful 8 script was leaked 6? years ago, and I've managed to avoid that one. Plus, let's be honest, I'm excited to see this movie, but it's not for the plot or dialogue.

The critics are loving The Force Awakens so far, so hopefully we don't have another Jar Jar Binks on our hands.

Sorry if this was mentioned before....but what should I do? Regular or IMAX 3d? I'm not bothered by 3d but this just doesn't seem like a good 3d movie...

By this point, and with as few movies that I do see in the theater, it's IMAX 3D or nothing. Especially with action, especially when you know there's going to be plenty of action. 3D has gotten away from the schtick that it used to be and it flows much more naturally into the movie. It makes for one helluva impressive experience.

Imaging the uproar if that was true-Disney might have gone bankrupt from all the lost business.

Saw it last night.

Loved it. I'm grateful to George Lucas for creating the universe, but I am glad others are able to take it to another level.

My post in the other thread:

Quote:
I'm about to leave work to meet up with some buddies at the bar across from where we'll be seeing the 8:30 showing tonight. I've only seen the original and don't even remember it that well. There's 14 of us going, and we're roughly split between enormous fans and guys like me who are just trying to go see a good movie.

I'm expecting it to be really good even without knowing all the backstory, but I wouldn't penalize the movie if there's stuff I'm not following for those reasons.

I loved it. Thought it did a really good job keeping the story solid while being plenty entertaining. Didn't feel like I was missing very much having not seen the other movies.

A very entertaining movie.

The most crowded Friday morning movie that I've ever been to.

I think Daisy Ridley is going to be a breakout star.

I wish weekday 9AM movies were a regular thing.

I loved the movie, and loved the casting and directing and new characters. None of the new actors in the prequels felt like they were playing "Star Wars characters," if that makes sense. None of them jumped of the screen the same way they did in the original series (except maybe Ewan Mcgregor, but obviously he was working from the template of an existing character). These new characters though, they all worked. It felt like a big, modern, new Star Wars movie.

As an example, (spoiler)

I think there are plenty of issues with the story, but I felt like they nailed the new characters.

"Good enough!" my friend and I joked as we drove home.

Thought it was a good blend of episode 3/4. Fisher really looks bad. I barely could tell it was Leia. Driver/Ridley/Boyega/Isaac were all great casting. Harrison Ford has definitely seen better days as well. Thought the lead admiral was kinda weak. Odds that Serkis's character is actually super tiny when we see him in non holo form?

I enjoyed it a lot more than I did the prequels; definitely think it captured the spirit of the originals much better.

The new characters were so impressive that at times I felt the presence of the old characters kind of got in their way (which is a good thing).

I was a little disappointed with the all the repetition in story. I mean, I know the master/apprentice dynamic and the internal struggle between light and dark side is going to have to be there. But I can't believe there's no other way to tell these stories without the underdog republic rising up to defeat the empire and their newest weapon of mass destruction (now on version 3.0).

Overall, very good execution of a disappointing story. I did enjoy it overall

do we really need the spoiler tags? if you don't want to have the movie spoiled, you should not be in this thread.

I guess I could see it for the big stuff, but IMO most of these "spoilers" don't need the tag
