Madden's main producer on OS has said that they have already started working on a patch that will be released much sooner than previous patches and for the first time they are adding a feature with the patch - accelerated clock
Here is his latest post updating the progress on the accelerated clock code: Update again! Today we turned on the code and everything worked! We decided to keep it off in the final 2 minutes. Maybe next year we can have that as an option (as well as an option for the run-off amount)...but we still want to keep risk as low as possible. Next up is: - Add the option to turn it on/off to the advanced options screen - Hook up some sort of UI effect so the clock actually looks like it's counting down fast instead of just "snapping" to having less seconds. |

First time it's been in a 360/PS3 version, but it was (is?) in the PS2/Xbox version a few years ago.

Madden definetely takes the cake for worst music to ever be implemented into video games. If it weren't for those NFL Films songs in the background, I'd have the whole thing on mute permanently.

The times I have bought Madden over the last few years, the very first thing I did was to go into options and turn off all non-NFL Films music. And the first game series that made music matter in videogames was Final Fantasy. |

LOL......this should really inspire the masses. A Madden developer at E3 admitted that the only changes that were made to the 2009 code were to add online dynasty support. Even known bugs were left 'in the game' due to them being 'low item priority'...........

If that's true, that would mean a 2-year dev cycle for 2010, which could be awesome.

Hey, the 09 version of the game isn't even out and they're already announcing new things coming to the '10 version!!! On-field refs FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This must be the kind of innovation that comes with the 2 year development cycle. I stand corrected, gstelmack.

Exactly my point. This is now the 3rd iteration on the 360. I guess you're right in that it's technically 2 years, but they haven't done anything with it since the initial upgrade to the 360 (PS3 was nothing more than a port and a lousy one at that). To be honest, even the game engine in the initial offering on the 360 obviously contained virtually identical AI to the previous PS2/Xbox version of the game. The AI mistakes on the old generation popped up in the new version. The only difference there was that they had a lot of pretty new graphics and animations to cover up the fact that the game engine itself changed very little despite promises of 'rebuilding the game from the ground up'. |

You trying to divert attention from your leap of faith in the first post? You said "the only changes that were made to the 2009 code", not "the only changes that were made to the 2009 franchise mode code". So feel free to rail on them for not cleaning up more franchise mode bugs, but stop making it look like they didn't touch anything else, either.

Fine. Modify my comments, but I posted my source. If I was trying to mislead, I would have never posted the source. As you said, they certainly deserve the venom for no changes on the franchise mode. I have no idea why this guy was stupid enough to even admit that in the first place. |

As I stated, there was no twisting involved. It was a mistake to not be more clear given that I posted a link that specified cited that it only involved the dynasty, but I didn't twist anything. The post spoke for itself. My lack of clarity doesn't change the fact that EA aren't interested in actively improving their product by fixing the known issues. Interesting post on OS from a main developer that was talking about QB numbers and said that a patch for Madden will be out on release date which is certainly a change from the prior modus operandi. In previous posts, he has said that the patch will add an accelerated clock to the game as well as fix a few issues. Here is a copy of the post in question:

Not for sure, as the developers have backed off saying what is officially in the patch. However, they have said that a patch will be out release date barring some unforeseen circumstances. They will officially announce what is in the patch "a few days before release" once everything is cleared for it to be released. They have also said in previous posts (such as the one you quoted) that accelerated clock was working in this patch, so unless it becomes broken, I think it is very likely to be included.

Maybe some day they'll get around to putting "save in the middle of a game" back in so I can actually play a franchise (or dynasty in NCAA).

Apparently, Accelerated clock will not be included in the patch on release date. I wonder if Greg can comment on the statement that MS does not allow patches to be more than 4 MB's?
Here is a post from a developer responding to a question about the patch: Again, I want to disagree. We are trying to patch Day 1 because we have the luxury of seeing feedback in NCAA. Are all of the NCAA issues present in Madden? No. We did notice a few that were and that were easy to fix so we want ahead and fixed them. To me it wasn't an 'oh sh*i*t we better fix that' decision. It was more of a 'why not fix it if we have some time?' type of decision. I thought I was quite frank about our decision to patch in my post Friday. Patches are tricky because they are a damned if you do/damned if you don't situation. Let me be even more crystal clear with my thoughts on patching. We should and will patch the game if there are major issues with the product. We plan to do one more patch once the game is out and we've had some time to absorb the feedback. Some additional bits of information to help understand patching a little better. MS actually limits the size of our combined patch. This means that the combined size of our patches cannot exceed 4MB. With this restriction, we can't fix everything. We have to focus our energy on high priority issues that will allow us to fall under the 4MB limit. Accelerated Clock will not be included in patch 1 becaue that alone put us over the 4MB limit. The good news with accel clock is that we got it working, proving that we can patch in data which has historically been a no-no for us. We are investigating another solution for providing features to consumers post-launch so that we can still get accel clock out for 09. Phil |

I don't understand how features that are in very old Madden games are so difficult to get in present day releases...

I'm wondering what alternate method they are evalating for getting the accelerated clock out to the consumers for 09? I can't imagine them actually sending out additional discs.

They've put him up there in a few different uniforms per people on OS. They also have simmed and posted the results of multiple seasons with Favre on different teams. I'm sure they are relishing the additional publicity that Favre is bringing to himself and as a secondary effect the game.

It sounds to me like they couldn't fit the acc clock into the same patch as everything else. I'm pretty sure they can still put it out in patch form, but just not packaged in with 100 or so other fixes.

Re-read the post I quoted. It says Accelerated clock alone is over 4 MB which would preclude them from putting it in any patch. I guess maybe if they found a way to code it so it was under 4 MB, they might be able to do it as a patch, but that seems unlikely to me from the way it is worded.
