Here there's no point in going out at all. The wind has been whipping snow around all day. Shoveling would do little good, and you'd just get a lot of snow blown in your face.

Snow in the back yard is almost up to the level of our pool, which is a 42" pool (structure probably a little higher). Some of that might be drift, but not a lot.

So....
My company has a published policy that when Fairfax County Government is closed, they will be closed.

Except, it seems, for tomorrow, when they decided to "deviate" from their policy and open the campus. Employees are encouraged to drive safely. If they can, they may work from home, or they may use composite leave or leave without pay if they do not have composite leave.

On the one hand, I'm sick of being in my house, and I can easily work from home. On the other hand, I'm completely disgusted with my company from "deviating" from published policy and forcing people to make a potentially unsafe decision. I know (from all the training they make us do) that if I deviated from a published policy, my arse would be handed to me. What's the point in having a policy if you don't follow it?

I will be so happy when this snow is gone. I ordered new furniture, but it's not like there's any way to get it into the house for delivery. I guess this shit needs to melt first.

It's snowing here in DFW right now...we must have a half inch on the ground already and it's supposed to snow until tonight. Knowing how badly folks around here drive in the white stuff, this could get a little ugly.

Our predicted 18 inches of snow turned out to be more like 3.

Ram your car into a snowbank, then sue the company.

Yesterday was the snowiest day in (recorded) DFW history. The northerners are going to laugh, but the old record was 7.8 inches and we got 11.2...

School cancellations here in NE Georgia in advance of the snow en route. About half around us are closed, the others are closing anywhere from 1130a to 1p.

I just wish we'd known about it before Will was ready to walk out the door this morning

Huge thick snow flakes falling outside of my home near Baton Rouge. Expecting several inches of accumulation north of the city. Schools all over the state and my work are canceled today as a result.

That's got to be a wet and heavy snow down south. Messy stuff.

Nothing to hang your head about. 11.2 is a good snow anywhere. Except maybe Buffalo

Love living in Georgia. These people don't even need to see snow to cancel classes.

Has anyone heard if they're having snow in the Lowcountry yet? I saw something on the news, but there's no mention of it in this thread.

I think you're talking about Vancouver. That's another thread altogether.
