zito retired. it's interesting to search the FOFC forum and see mention of Zito back in 2000. Zito's started and ended his baseball career in the time I've just been dicking around this place.

Those few fans that acted stupid are idiots, but don't like that paint the picture of all Jays fans.

Story from our town. Our winery is about two miles from this road/school.

Pretty much what you said, I was very surprised when I saw that story break and it mentioned "bottles". Heck, I've seen a couple of HS stadiums that won't even sell Cokes and let you have the bottle any more.

Last time I was at Gillette Stadium, they'll give you the bottle, but not the cap.

Isn't there a Kansas City, Kansas as well? Right across from Kansas City, Missouri?

Yes. It's an armpit of a town with basically nothing in it. Royals and Chiefs are in Kansas City, MO.

Saying the Royals are in Kansas is like saying Detroit is in Canada. It's called a border for a reason.

I doubt the Canadians give two shits about it being the wrong state.

I doubt they do either. They were too busy sneaking bottles into tonight's game just in case it didn't go their way again.

I love how a when a sports team comprised of professional athletes from all over North America who happen to be employed by a team in Toronto win some games, suddenly sports fans like MBBF suddenly decide they hate Canada. I know it goes the other way too, it's just...really stupid if you think about it.

Who hates Canada? I've been there several times and love it. I just felt the need to point out they need a bit of stupid redneck control when it comes to their bottles and signs. The rest of them are just fine.

What's really stupid is overgeneralized rationalizations based on a pot-shot at a few stupid fans.

We're 3 games into the ALCS and by my count, MBBF has 16 posts in this thread since the series started and not a single one is actually discussing baseball.

By my count, you've got far too much time on your hands.

Congrats to the Blue Jays for getting a must win and making sure it wasn't a blowout against arguably our worst playoff rotation starting pitcher. Got our ace going tomorrow. Should be a much more competitive game.

Speaking of Cueto, he's giving a way millions over the last two months of this season. It's just crazy.

Best team in baseball history has a pitcher with a career xFIP of 4.87 as thier ace? Say it aint so Joe.

Chris Young an ace is quite the comedy. Flyball pitcher in Toronto is scary. That defense is going to running around all day hoping to make some big plays.

You obviously haven't checked the head to head stats of Young vs. the heart of the Toronto lineup. We'll see how it pans out.

PvB 10/20 - Daily Baseball Data

You mean these stats? Nah, they were proved irrelevant in "The Book" by a bunch of statisticians a few years back. The sample size is too small to gain any relevance. They did tons of research on Batter vs Pitcher stats.

I have no dog in this fight, but for kicks I looked at the numbers. You are basing your confidence off of that few plate appearances? Sorry man, that is ridiculous. Maybe Young shuts them out tomorrow. Hell, maybe he no hits them. Maybe he throws a perfect game against them. . .

Even so, how do you think the head to head stats mean ANYTHING with that few of at bats? He's had a very good post season career and he may do well tomorrow. If he does, it's because he's pitching well, not because the Jays hitters cannot hit him.

I wouldn't classify a single pitcher on the Royals roster to be "ace" material. While I like some of our arms, none of them are bona fide #1 pitchers. Certainly not Chris Young.

Wouldnt you say Ventura has been the closest thing to an Ace on the staff since he was re-called? He has ace potential at least. Chris Young has been nothing more than a 4th or 5th starter his entire career, lol. I can only shake my head with some of the stuff MBBF comes up with.

Yeah, that was my thinking too. Cueto when he's at his best is maybe a #2/#3, and he's probably your most talented starter. Like Shields last year, much the same.

The calling card for the Royals the past couple years has been as a terrific contact-hitting and baserunning team with a great bullpen and an (at best) effective rotation. Seems to be working, too.

Cueto when he is at his best is most definitely not a #2/#3. He is easily a #1 and over the past few years has been one of the best pitchers in major league baseball. No idea why he is pitching like he is this year for the Royals and to a degree with the Reds. With the Reds before the trade there was talk amongst fans that he had to be hiding an injury because he is a definite ace.

I don't think Ventura will ever be more than a strong #2. I don't think he's got the mental makeup to ever be a full-time, fully effective ace. Can be too petulant, gets too wound up.

I'd even go back to last year and say Shields wasn't really a true ace. He's a 2 at best as well. We have solid to good starting pitching. It's the bullpen that makes the staff.

Volquez threw Cueto under the bus when Cueto said the Blue Jays were stealing his signs. Volquez basically said that Cueto just needed to man up and stop complaining. It is clear at this point that the Royals locker room is in complete disarray and are losing the mental part of the game. To try and state otherwise is just whistling past the graveyard.....................

You're right, the way I phrased it. At his best Cueto is a #1. What I meant to say is that I don't think he will ever be "at his best" anymore, and that he's "at best" a #2/#3 going forward for the rest of his career. Keep in mind, still a very good pitcher. But I think the recent downturn in performance is the start of his drop into very good but no longer great veteran starting pitcher that all these young studs eventually reach. So the Royals aren't getting #1 ace Cueto.

I would rather be wrong...Than live in the shadows of your song...My mind is open wide...And now I'm ready to start...You're not sure...You open the door...And step out into the dark...Now I'm ready.
