If the Big Twelve is looking to expand, they might want to add Louisiana-Lafayette and Arkansas State.

Hate that the B1G isnt playing, yet teams in the footprint are.

In terms of average name value, it probably was.

I mean, what's the alternative this week? Western Kentucky vs Louisville?
Appy State vs Charlotte?

To be fair, we're only nominally a Big XII football team

And forget the Big 12, give me the SEC.

Huge win for the Coastal legacy. Was not expecting them to start their 3rd string QB who had a career total of 2 passes I think coming off a redshirt. Not overly excited about their QB's from last year, but figured one of them would start over the freshman. Next week is former Big South foe Campbell at home. They have already lost to fellow Sun Belt team Georgia Southern.

Heard on hot mic, University of Nebraska president says Big Ten announcement comes tonight

Quote:
During small talk prior to the start of a news conference Tuesday morning, University of Nebraska President Ted Carter says an announcement of the Husker football season will come Tuesday afternoon or evening.

"We're getting ready to announce the Huskers and Big Ten football tonight", said Carter in a conversation with Bob Hinson, director of the National Strategic Research Institute.

Damn. There goes our hope of avoiding football the rest of this season by joining the Big Ten.

Nebraska left the Big XII because they got tired of Texas pulling the strings. Now they're getting worked over in the Big Ten. Perhaps Conference USA would be a better fit.

Yep stand corrected there Jon. I had just seen that Southern had beaten them not the score. Definitely shouldn't underestimate them or Liberty who they also added to the schedule this year.

I only knew cause I saw the score early in the day and thought there might be some serious GaSo angst about to hit my social media feeds, so I remained aware much of the day.

Looks like the B1G will play an 8 game season in a 9 week window with the championship game the day before the CFB playoffs are announced. So they will be in the playoffs as well.

And I agree with Kodos, kick Nebraska to the curb and curb stomp them while they are at it. Wait they are by giving them UM, OSU and PSU as crossover games. HAHA.

"Not all of our players, but most of our players have caught it," Orgeron said at his Tuesday press conference. "So I think that hopefully they don't catch it again and hopefully they are not out for games."

With the 90 day break from testing for those that tested positive, it sure looks a little fishy.

One more little tidbit for those who watched that Rabun County vs Prince Avenue game last Friday night.

from the Georgia HS Football Daily email newsletter, from an interview with recruiting analyst Rusty Mansell

Quote:
... Adriel Clark, who had 11 receptions for 134 yards and two touchdowns, transferred from Riverside Military, which canceled its fall sports seasons because of COVID-19. The Jefferson game will put Rabun and Stockton up against a five-star quarterback for the second consecutive week. Jefferson’s Malaki Starks, recruited as a running back or defensive back, is the No. 16 overall junior prospect nationally

Yep, Covid gave Rabun's Gunner Stockton a weapon he wouldn't have had otherwise ... and after that win, they get to face another 5 star prospect this week. All Starks did last week, in his first career start at QB, was rush for 177 yards and 3 TDs ... on just seven carries. (the team finished with 567 yards rushing, and 0 passing)

Is that game streaming anywhere?

BTW, we are finally cleared to start practice 10/1 with an abbreviated season starting the 30th or October, yay!

Not that I've seen so far, though I'll check the listings that come out on Thurs(?) or Fri(?) and make sure.

I expect Jefferson to handle them well enough. There's a huge leap in athleticism compared to playing Prince last Friday. Also the difference in sheer size. Rabun is #1 ranked Class AA ... Prince was #3 ranked Class A ... Jefferson is #2 ranked Class AAAA. (Jefferson is also only about 20-30 mins from my house, so I know their outlook pretty well)

The most infuriating part of this, IMO, is that it shows what we need to do to make schools and colleges safe, but between the schools themselves, state governments, and the federal government the resources aren't going to be provided to make it happen.

Revised IU football schedule to include ninth game vs. West team that finishes in same spot – The Daily Hoosier

Info on the scheduling. This is an interesting twist:

Quote:
“We will play eight games, plus one, with a very unique champions week,” Alvarez said during a press conference aired on BTN on Wednesday.

“The teams from East and West will match up, and play one another. Two vs. two, three vs. three, four vs. four, etc., with the championship game being played at the end of that week, Dec. 18 or 19. It gives everyone an opportunity to play nine games.”

I never asked to be a hero in the fight to save Big 10 football. I just wanted to watch the Badgers play.

That's the thing about heroes. We never ask to be in these moments. We just happen to find ourselves here.

Thanks to everyone who joined in the fight. Now, let's play.

Pac-12 as usual has been sitting around with their thumbs up their butts. As soon as they announced their partnership with Quidel for rapid testing on the 3rd they should have been:
  • Doing whatever they could to speed up the timeframe for getting these testing labs set up on each campus
  • Conferring with state and local officials in all Pac-12 states - but particularly California and Oregon - to lay the groundwork for return to play ASAP
  • Talking with their counterparts in the Big Ten to see where they were headed in terms of returning to play and what kind of schedule they were considering

Instead it appears they did none of those things. They won't have testing available on all campuses until the end of the month, which - with a 6-week ramp up time mandated by the conference - means the middle of November at best to start play assuming they get the go-ahead from the states and local officials. And as we've seen over the last couple of days, it sure doesn't seem like they've been working with local officials in California and Oregon to lay the groundwork for a return to practice and play. Apparently the rocket scientists in California think "limited cohort" practicing of no more than 12 players per group is a feasible and practical way for football teams to practice.

I'm all for ensuring reasonable safety protocols for players, and I had zero issue with the conference postponing play this fall. But as soon as antigen rapid testing (15 turnaround time with nearly the same level of accuracy as PCR tests) became feasible, football with reasonable safety in this pandemic became possible. But the conference didn't (and doesn't) appear to be acting with any kind of urgency. Instead they will further cement themselves as the odd-men out in the Power-5 as they will be on the outside looking in for the CFP this season and will be playing games that very few people will care about in December and January.

Fuck Larry Scott. Fire that clown.

I don't know how accurate this is, but I heard on the radio that state and local regulations would mean that 5 or 6 Pac-10 teams wouldn't be allowed to practice at the moment.

For sure in California they would have to adhere to modified practices with no more than 12 players in a group at a time. So, no 11 v 11 practicing. Now, I expect that since Jon Wilner reported that earlier today there is a mountain of pressure building on health officials in that state to revisit those provisions.

The phrase “couldn’t organize a piss-up in a brewery” might not apply to any individual in history more than Larry Scott. You can only wonder who he has naked photos of.

Good (if short) piece on the lengths the family of one prospect went to ensure that he had a senior season.

Good on them afaic.

The star college football recruit, his parents' unusual decision and a cross-country move
