I only had them getting to the Sweet 16 so not a big loss for me.

And they honestly shouldn't have been in the tournament. The rule that kept Merrimack out is stupid.

Kindof saw some of this coming. We got a banner last year and that was awesome. But partly because of that (and partly because we still have the shadow of the FBI investigation), we just didn't have enough. This team has been an imperfect "island of misfit toys" team all season long. Self is a miracle worker to have this team play as well as it did with 17 quad 1 wins and yet another conference title.

From the outside, we looked strong. A 1st team AA forward and strong PG from a natty team, a lottery freshman, and some good role players. But, by that same token, it's a short PG who doesn't want to shoot, a freshman SG with bad D, the wing who can't shoot but can board and defend to cover up for the freshman SG, and a C who is maybe 6'6" around that 1st team AA player. And a bench was a pair of freshman forwards who fouled a lot (Udeh is going to be good maybe as soon as next year, tho), a backup SG who couldn't shoot as well as the lottery player and defended even worse, and a backup PG who was ok at running offense and has no offensive game, even as a sophomore.

If it had made a deep run, it would have been seen to Kansas fans as a beloved scrappy underdog like 2012. It's funny how the perceptions outside and inside the program were so different.

But, hey, there's always next year. Harris, Adams, Udeh, and Rice (if he returns) are a decent core. We'll need some shooting and the team will have to buy in on defense. And that's all assuming Self is healthy enough to coach. So long as he's on the sidelines, we have a chance. But if he has to step back for health reasons, well, I get that, too.

SI

When Boeheim retired, I took a look at a lot of all-time wins lists. Huggins is now the active leader and I think he is year to year, but needs a little under 100 wins to be WVU’s all time leader and about 65 to get to 1,000. He is 69 years old. But, in looking at who else could get to 1,000, Self is 60 and is in the 780’s for wins. He would seem like a decent bet to be on the NCAA basketball Mt. Rushmore if he can make it to 70 or so and win another 1-2 titles. I hope whatever is going on isn’t too serious.

Congrats to my Houston Coogs despite the NCAA trying to set them up for elimination having to play a 9 seed at home. They really took to Auburn with their two starting guards in fouls trouble for the better part of the second half. Sophomore Mark came big scoring 26 though he averages 10. Crazy stat Houston blocked 14 shots.

All year long I talked about Miami as a sleeper but they faltered a bit down the stretch and I lost my nerve and picked Indiana. Idiot.

That FSU game was awful for Miami, but their loss in the ACC tourney to Duke was more about Omier going down early. He definitely showed his value today.

I love that Miami kept faith in Larranaga after three straight losing seasons. Now they have their first back to back Sweet 16s in school history.

If, at any point this season, you heard that there would only be one ACC team in the Sweet 16, I wonder what percentage of people would have guessed Miami? Between UVA, Duke, and UNC, pretty cool side story.

In a crazy coincidence, Miami's women also beat Indiana's women to make it to the Sweet 16. This was a much bigger upset as Miami was a 9 seed against 1 seed Indiana.

That coach they hired was a D2 coach, he brought 3 of his D2 players with him and they showed they belonged. Even just making the league title game was an accomplishment, much less the coaching job they did to get them that huge upset.

Wonder if their coach will take the lifetime contract after pulling this off and stay at FDU or if he takes the easy money at another NYC area school that'll likely woo him after the coaching carousel ends.

It'll just be tough to flip two programs in 2 years, especially without being able to install 3 of your guys into the rotation.

St. Francis College, an original NCAA member that'd never made the NCAA tournament announced it was cutting athletics entirely after this spring. They're D1, but sold their entire campus for $200m and moved downtown to a new building to become a real commuter school.

St. Francis Brooklyn stunningly cuts entire athletics program

Two of the games tonight were really fun. And I say this with my team already out of it, which kills off a decent bit of my interest.
