Wow. Duke the 2 seed in Gonzagas bracket. Also a potential 2nd round matchup of Michigan St-Duke.

This feels like it’s shaping up to be the worst bracket I’ve ever filled out, and I’ve filled out some bad ones. A lot of parity and tough draws out there.

Wisconsin and Michigan get favorable draws out of the Big 10.

Ohio State utterly screwed. Real tough match up for Illinois too. And not sure why Iowa is only a 5.

The Big Ten seedings make no sense at all. As usual, they must have come up with the bracket last week and completely disregarded the Big Ten Tournament. Iowa's seeding makes no sense but at least they got a good draw.

Totally agree. Seems like the tournament didn't matter.

Also 9 teams seems a bit high after the thumping the conference took last year.

Looking at some of the higher compared to Iowa , I am slightly peeved. I think they should have reserved a 3 and 4 for Iowa and Purdue.

Oh well, I do like our draw. South Dakota St. scare me more than Kansas.

Well I thought Coastal's season was over after finishing 16-13, but the post COVID world has led to the return of some of the postseason tournaments, in this case the use to be CIT, now known as the Basketball Classic but still run by the CIT people. The first round games include a tribute to HBCU legends at each game.

The Chants play the first round at home Wed night with a game against Maryland-Eastern Shore (11-15) which surprisingly they have never played. So bonus basketball for me and lets hope they do a lot better than the CJBL Chants.

I mean, are you in the tournament if you have to win a play-in game to make the bracket? I suppose it is better than being left out, but Notre Dame is a good team.

My 92 year old Dad went to South Dakota St. and he ended up in Iowa City for his career. So a 2nd round match up would be a lot of fun for him.

The #1 seeded NC State women's team is sent to the Bridgeport regional setting up a potential de facto home game for #2 UConn in the regional final.
NC State athletics has a history of being screwed by the NCAA, most recently against Vanderbilt in the College World Series, so it's only fitting that they continue the trend.

The real Chants make it past the first round 66-42. Not sure how an 11-15 team got into the tournament, but glad Coastal got to play them. 2nd round opponent to be determined.

This game feels like Michigan is going to be trailing 3-7 points the whole time and never get over the hump. The turnovers are killing them.

Crazy that the NCAA gave Michigan a gift of a seed, a very friendly draw, home court advantage, and now a very friendly whistle. Given the frequent Howard reaction shots, slapping an opposing coach has its advantages I suppose.

At least that is the same as Richmond who also played 4 games in 4 days ending on Sunday.

I bet Richmond on the money line at +425. Think Iowa may be reading a few too many of their press clippings

Great point. Iowa was winning when I made that post so it really wasn't about the performance up to that point. I think the NCAA did an even worse job than usual of seeding and location assignments this year. It's usually pretty bad but it's worse than usual this year.

Travel arrangements were very difficult for the NCAA this year due to a lack of flights or pilots. Location assignments were more important than usual and the NCAA just farted out a mess. Some teams were in host cities for less than 24 hours before playing today.

With how well Michigan is doing, it makes you wonder if those long conference tourney runs are worth it. Especially since the committee doesn't seem to care about the results of them.

Edit: I guess Richmond did the same thing so it's a wash.

This would probably require a deep dive but I was also wondering if teams that played in a conference tourney that ended earlier performed better than expectations than teams that finish on the Saturday or Sunday before the tournament. Does that week of rest help or make you rusty?

I dont have any statistical backing but I have heard from announcers(for what its worth) that conference tourny champs historically underachieve in the tournament.

Am I the only one who looks at Holmgren and doesn’t see an NBA player? I know the game is more perimeter and skilled big man oriented but still, he’s having trouble backing down and winning the physical battle against low major guards who are giving up 8 or 9 inches to him.

I had the same view of him earlier in the season. If he can put on some muscle over the next couple of years, he has the skillset to be a very good player. However, without that, I think he will have trouble against the more powerful bigs and be an up and down player based on the matchup.

I had Iowa losing in the Sweet Sixteen so I don't feel too bad. I regret not picking Michigan more tbh.
