I wonder if Manning could get away with a Decision-esque special. I'm thinking he probably could.

Well considering he was cut, it wouldn't quite be the same thing. I still think it would rub people the wrong way, especially since some people thought he was trying to hog his brother's spotlight for doing an interview during Superbowl week.

My money is on Denver at this point. They have the most cap room to sign him and some better WRs.
It is a fantasy, but I would like to see what happens if they sign Manning, Wayne and Clark. |

The Titans enter the fray?
Lombardi: Peyton Manning to Visit the Tennessee Titans - Music City Miracles I guess with the owner coming out and publically stating he wants Manning on his team regardless of what his coaches want that would get Manning's attention-but why play for a team divided like that and more importantly play against Indy twice a season-can't see this happening if true that he's going to visit. |

they should. he'd be an upgrade on what, 27 teams? if i was the ravens i would literally throw joe flacco out a window for manning.

Broncos already threw Tebow out a window, but he can fly.

I definitely would have preferred to keep Manning and use the pick haul to load up for the last 3-4 years of his career. However, given the circumstances with his health, I think it was probably rational to cut him. How bad would it have been if they paid him $28M and then found out in a few months or right before the start of the season that he had to retire. ... and then once you cut Manning and commit to Luck/RG3 it makes total sense to gut the rest of the team to time your cap hell to coincide with the rookie's learning year. Even without all these cuts the Colts were looking at 3-4 wins tops next year (Relative to this team, the Colts were loaded in Manning's first year and went 3-13). These moves not only clear the cap slate for Luck/RG3's second year but also increase the value of next year's draft picks. If the new QB is the real deal there is no reason they can't be back in the playoffs in two years and contending in three with these moves. |

Given their Saturday contract deadline on Kolb, the more time Manning takes, the less likely its going to be Arizona I think.

Even if Manning had to retire, eating $28 million would suck, but they wouldn't be crippled because they'd have a ton of young talent coming in to rebuild with. And without Manning, they'd probably be right back in the same draft spot. I'd take my chance on Manning's health plus huge influx of young talent vs. Luck's chance of being a superstar minus huge influx of young talent.

I don't think you have to eat the full 28m if he retires because of injury do you? In terms of cap space there's exemptions and in terms of actual $$$ I'd have thought they could get insurance to cover some of the risk

The problem is that if they gave Manning the $28M they'd have $44M of bonus money left to count against the cap ($28M + $16M left from the signing bonus last off-season). If he then retired before June 1st all of that amount would have been applied to this year's cap which would have been catastrophic. Had he retired after June 1st then I think it would have been split evenly over this and next season at $22M/year -- not catastrophic, but certainly crippling especially considering they wouldn't have Luck or RG3 in that scenario and might have acquired enough talent to limp to 6 wins and lose any opportunity at getting a good QB.

Arizona is cutting Levi Brown to make cap room in an attempt to sign Manning.
Perhaps I am wrong, but is releasing starting linemen a valid method of attracting a QB with known neck issues? |

You can always designate 2 players as a June 1 cut, regardless of when it happens.

Levi Brown is one of the reasons they gave up so many sacks-though to his credit-he finally improved in the second half of this season. But he's now expecting to be paid like he's been that kind of player all along and given the Cards cap problems with or without Manning, it was likely he would be cut. |

Baltimore has been my dark horse pick every since the Manning might be cut news broke. They have had a nice team for the past decade, the have a pro bowl running back, and nice possession receiver and a up and coming deep threat. I was really hoping that my Jets would be a major player, instead I get Sanchez for another 5 years. |

So, after all that the Colts re-sign Wayne? Its an affordable deal and I'm happy as a fan to have him back. (and even more happy they chose to keep him over Garcon...)
I guess it makes sense from the angle of having at least one experienced guy around to help Luck in his first two years and hopefully help develop a new stable of young WRs. |

When the team "leaked" a couple days ago that they weren't out of it, they were out of it.

Awful Announcing
I kid you not, ESPN has coverage of a white van driving down the road with "Pursuit of Manning" and a splitscreen.

According to a tweet by Denver television station 9News, a plane with the same tail number that picked up Peyton Manning last week has registered a flight plan with Flight Aware to fly to Raleigh, N.C. Friday morning. Manning has been working out at Duke University, which is near Raleigh.

Peyton to 49ers would be awesome and hilarious, cuz it'd be an inverse Montana.

I'm not a fan by any means BUT I think the 49ers are probably the team (in play) that would be closest to winning it all with the addition of Manning.

CAA reps Smith and Manning, and I think it would be a win-win. Smith on an open market desperate for QBs could inflate his value.

Looks like the Raiders just traded their 1st round draft picks in 2015, 16, & 17 and Carson Palmer to the Broncos, in return for the promise that the Broncos won't sign Manning.

With that defense and Manning at the helm (with Frank Gore at RB), the entire league is likely shaking at the thought.
