If your 15-year old has access to that kind of weaponry, the parents were negligent and should serve the rest of their lives in prison.

Yeah, also not a school shooting. Or even a mass shooting, but I guess this is the gun thread now.

If only she had a gun it would have all worked out. It is almost as if this whole "everyone has a gun" mentality creates a shoot first ask questions later mentality.

Not enough. We need ten times that much. We need 70 armed guards at each and every school. It's the only way our kids will be safe. Build the schools up with really thick walls so nobody can get in. Put armed guards everywhere to protect them, and then control the locks on the rooms from a central command post to allow access to each area only by known people within the school. It's a foolproof plan.

In a verdict that left the families of Cruz’s 17 victims stunned, a jury opted against applying the death penalty in the case. Bound by that decision, Judge Elizabeth Scherer sentenced Cruz to life late Wednesday.

Just to be clear. You guys would forgive someone that killed your own innocent child (e.g. didn't do any bullying or crap like that) in an indiscriminate school shooting?

Who knows if you could or not if you haven't been in that situation?

But I will say that forgiving would be better for my mental health rather than holding on to anger and rage.

I honestly don't see it as either forgive or execute. I can easily see myself forgiving and having the perp be executed.

I think I said that I have no idea if I could forgive someone if I was in that situation.

Also I see the forgive/not forgive and execute/not execute as generally separate issues.

I'll take the other quadrant - no forgiveness, moving on with my life, and I really don't care if he dies or rots in jail.

I don't either. I see it as try to forgive, but mostly I think the death penalty is repugnant. He can spend the rest of his life in prison. I personally would rather die than that anyway.

Sure, in some cases, it's a deterrent. I'm not sure it is here.

I'm pretty sure a gunman who opens fire on a bunch of people knows he's either getting life in prison or the death penalty. And I don't think one versus the other sways him whether to do it or not.

Not saying I could because I've mercifully never been in that position, but I have seen enough to believe strongly that personal healing is achieved in part through forgiveness and letting go of the anger and hate. That hate and anger won't do anything to the other person, but it will corrode your spirit over time.

Admittedly, my religious beliefs play a big part in my thinking.

No I don't think I would but I do think I would be better off if I could. I think I would have a higher expectation of myself to forgive if I purported myself as a person who had strong religious beliefs.

I definitely don't claim that I would. Do I think I should, if placed in that horrible situation? Yes. Do I not do many other things I should do which are far, far easier? Also yes. It is a moral stance, but at the same time more than that; I agree strongly with the point that's been made, that not forgiving doesn't just hurt the person who committed the act. It's hurts the person who doesn't forgive, and in some cases hurts them more.

Or what JPhillips and miami_fan also said.

What we know about the suspect in the deadly University of Virginia shooting | CNN

Has anyone seen reasons why Jones is no longer on the team? The mix of him not being on the team anymore, a hazing investigation, and Jones feeling picked on is an interesting mix for speculation.

The murders in Idaho (I know not gun related, but school related) is getting weirder and scarier. They have no suspects and few leads. 4 young people stabbed and bleed out, and there were other roommates home at the time! This is horror movie stuff.

I haven't read everything out there so maybe some of the answers are out there that I've missed. Early on, they said they were confident it was targeted and now that we know roommates were home and unhurt, that makes some sense. I'm just guessing that the roommates were scared into not calling the police which is why this wasn't reported until later. That's based on the "not a hostage situation" comment, which is an odd comment to make and has to mean something.

Is there anything out there explaining where they were killed or found - together or separated? I haven't seen any of that detail. More than likely, this is going to be some sort of revenge/grudge thing, or drugs is always a possibility, I guess.

You've probably seen this, but he was a walk-on and injured so was only with the team for a semester and really didn't participate much.

Edward, in the press conference they had today, they refused to say whether they were found together or separate. They said there was signs of a struggle and evidence found on the scene. He also said though there was roommates in the house, he would not say there are any witnesses. He also did say the victims were concious at the time of the attack.
Everything he said made it more puzzling.

Assume the parents weren't negligent and there weren't signs (per some interviews with third parties), I feel for them. I can't imagine what they are going through.

About a month now and still don't see any details googling with "raleigh school shooting".

Maybe I'm searching on the wrong phrase but it's weird there doesn't seem to be more info re: my questions above?

But there were no calls to 911 until noon Sunday. Fry did not say who called 911, despite two people being at the home when the killing took place and when officers responded. Fry also declined to say if the two people spoke with police.
