Next on the list. It is Brat Pack adjacent. As for "Weird Science", my wife had never seen it and enjoyed it, but to me it didn't hold up. Anthony Micheal Hall did well with what was some weak writing, but the other kid was just not a good actor. I read that he is now a college professor, and that is probably a better fit for him. Kelly LeBrock was gorgeous, but also not a great actor. That's a pretty big contrast to "Sixteen Candles", where the writing was still on the silly side, but the acting across the board was pretty sound.

There is a slamball injury I remember from a trampoline that somehow is worse than the Kevin Ware injury.

Trying to sell stuff on Facebook is so annoying. If I put something up for sale and you message me within 10 minutes, don't offer me half of the price I listed. And then don't ask what my best price is. You can see the best price... it's the one I listed. The next response is usually a variant of "you won't sell it for that price." OK, then I won't sell it to you for that price. I'll either sell it at some price to someone else or I'll just keep it and no one uses it. Oh well.

I’ve been both ways with it. I got asking full price for my old GPU(it took a month but I never dropped the price.)

On the other hand I also had a lady leave me shitty messages and also try to tag me a post on her personal Facebook because I wouldn’t deliver a $5 item to the next county over.

My experience with Facebook marketplace was a bunch of scammers hitting me up to "ship" the item. I had some luck with pinball machines and some office furniture, but it's not worth the headache on anything small.

YES. First noticed this last summer. The flavoring of the breading is still there, but the chicken is lower-quality than it used to be. A real shame.

I was doing a search on the board and it came up with an old thread I was active in almost 20 years ago. It is depressing how much better I was at writing back then compared to now.

I know what you mean. I’ve seen some old posts of mine that read like they were written by a different person. I, also, think back to all of the various political arguments I used to get into and then realize that I “retired” from that game after Obama got elected in 2008, or 16 years ago.

Been in Porto, Portugal since last Friday. Been having a blast. On Sunday night was the festival of St. John (Sao Joao), which is basically a huge all night street party. Every one has plastic hammers with accordion tops, and everyone is fair game to be tapped on the head with them, and the hammers make a high pitched whistling sound. And I mean everyone. Cops, firemen, old people, little kids, it is crazy. At midnight there is a massive fireworks show along the river, and all night people have little hot air balloons that get lit and float up into the night sky. There were hundreds of them up in the sky continuously from after sunset until I crashed at 4am.

I'm in the market for a new grill since I saw a mouse (or something with a tail) in my old one and decided it was time to get rid of it. What's so great about Blackstone? I was thinking of getting something I could use as a smoker too, but other than that, I really don't know what I'm looking for.

Blackstone is a griddle. A large flat top. It is not a grill replacement, but something to use beside a grill.

Personally I have a charcoal grill and a pellet smoker. I rarely use the charcoal grill, but I will occasionally fire it up for a quick cook of burgers. For a smoker I have a Pro Series Pit Boss. You can use it like a grill as well a a smoker. It gives you full temp control, and allows you to do long "low and slow" cooks. I have done 15+ hour briskets. Mine has a blue-tooth connection to be able to watch the temperature of the meat and adjust the smoker temp as well.

Today's my lucky day!

I just looked at my BoA bank account online and see a $2 credit related to some class action lawsuit BoA must have settled.

Instead of spending it, I think I'll put it into a BoA CD!

We had a work outing at Churchill Downs yesterday. If I had known I had that money coming my way, I might be retired by this afternoon.

You probably want a big green egg or clone with a griddle top. My brother has one that you can smoke on, you can rotisserie with an attachment, and you can griddle burgers with the griddle attachment. They also make a pizza oven attachment.

I love my Traeger. It makes burgers and hot dogs/sausages just fine with the heat dialed up. I don't eat steak all that often, but I've got a far better cooking style using the stove and oven inside so a smoker's lower marks for cooking steak are irrelevant to me. Fact is, since I got my Traeger, I've yet to make a bad meal. It's almost idiot proof.

I have a Camp Chef pellet grill and paired it with the Blackstone. I love both but the wife isn't a big fan of smoked meats.

Smash burgers off the blackstone ruined other burgers for me. Trying some steak tacos off of it tonight.

Semi-related, I live in a 3rd-floor apartment in Oregon, so grilling isn't in my future, but I do covet one of those fancy stoves with a built-in griddle/flattop section.

So my daughter swims for one of the local neighborhoods in the city. There's various divisions and she swims in the largest division.

It's the division's final today and I'll be here for 6 or 7 hours. Yay.

But, one of the neighborhoods has a girl who just finished 3rd and 8th in events at the Olympic trials. She hasn't swam all summer so technically she isn't allowed, but they're letting her swim anyway. The kids on the other team think it's unfair.

They started with the Medley relay and her team just finished second, so the kids from the other neighborhoods started an "overrated" chant. It's mean and the adults need to stop them... but it is kind of amusing and exactly what you expect from a group of a few hundred teens.

Speaking of smoking meats, they just open a BBQ place around the corner from my house. We just had lunch there, and it was so good. Pork rinds came to the table still popping. The pulled pork was perfectly smoked. Both the traditional and vinegar based sauces were super tasty. Next time I need to try the brisket, then the ribs.

We need a name for the BBQ.

There's one I can walk to near my house that has the best ribs (Henrys). Then another maybe 5 minutes away that's solid (Moes) with a good brewery attached. Then one down the street from that with the best brisket (Lewis). Then another 5 minutes away I have walked to that is solid with another good brewery (Home Team). The best pulled pork is maybe 8 minutes away (Mikes).

So I guess I'm surrounded by good BBQ, but I have to drive 20 minutes to get adequate run of the mill Mexican.

One of the BBQ joints here (Butt Hutt) does the pork rinds made to order. First & only time I recall seeing that done.

If that's your thing (not mine, Will likes em) give that place a try if you find yourself over this way. Probably the best overall bbq joint in town imo.

And I've got so-so Mexican on every corner but there's not a decent Chinese place for many miles. (Japanese, Vietnamese yes, but not Chinese) We don't even have a publicly accessible Panda Express ffs.

I barely knew what was going on, but that T20 final was awesome. The 45 year old redhead from South Africa was doing his best Barry Bonds performance and then he’s out in an instant and they gotta bring in some scrubby ass Felix Fermin clone. I could get hooked on this if they made the TV presentation better. Just seemed like camera shot angles and replays were lacking.

I haven't been there in years. It was a favorite of ours like a decade ago. We'd hit it whenever Caitlin played tournaments in certain cities.

My wife had hip surgery about 10 or so days ago. She'll be non-weight bearing for 6-8 weeks minimum. About all she can do is use a walker to get to and from the couch to the bathroom. Someone has to help her get dressed, get her food, help her in and out of bed, etc. I'm basically working two jobs taking care of her and the animals and trying to work.

Today I got up at 3:30am and 6:30am to take the dogs out (a job we usually split, but of course she can't help right now), which did allow us to sleep until 8:30 (usually we're up by 7am). From there I had to feed the animals, get her out of bed and get her food. Since no one's been shopping for a while, I left while my daughter was around to help her so I could go shopping, get a haircut, and stop by the vet to get some Rx wet dog food for one of the dogs.

After I came home, I took the dogs out again, got my wife lunch, then went downstairs to workout. I ran 6.5 miles, came upstairs, showered, ate, and ran back out to the store to do a bit of clothes shopping since I'm losing so much weight nothing fits anymore (I was officially out of belts until today). Came home from that trip, in-laws were here to help (watch TV/play cards). I started preparing dinner, got the grill started, made dinner, fed the dogs, started the first of 5 loads of laundry, cleaned up after dinner, took the dogs out again, helped the wife in the bathroom, got everyone dessert, made tea, and now I'm sitting on the couch on my computer waiting for the last load of laundry to dry. I've blown past 20K steps already.

I'm frickin' exhausted. I think I can honestly say I know what it feels like to be a single parent. I'm sure it sucks, but it really sucks as a 52 year old with 2 kids basically out of the house. Fortunately, this is only temporary.

I still miss the halcyon days of AYCE sliced pork at Sonny's. On my personal Mt Rushmore of food enjoyment

Still hands down my favorite sauce in history, when the crinkle cuts were fresh and hot that's a legendary pairing.

I have not eaten at Sonny's in quite a while either. Last time we went it wasn't good. But yeah, I used to do the AYCE there quite (too) often.

City BBQ is where we go most often these days

I literally have one Sonny's left that's within an hour of me. It's a treat when I'm near it but it just ain't the same as the $9.99 AYCE era. That just hit different, I could leave actually satisfied with doing painful damage to my wallet.

Memphis "Rendezvous" was a thing back in the 90's. I remember enjoying the dry rub ribs.

Nowadays, generally happy with Costco ribs. Their end cuts (?) are sometimes too fatty (and shaped weird) but we're talking about $18-$22 for a full rack, ready to eat when you get home, can last 2-3 meals as the main protein ... so not complaining.
