Some excitement today in sports. At the Westminster Dog Show, a portly owner of a terrier fell. That's it. He just fell while walking. He received applause when he stood up again.

I know AI is an irresistible force destined to bring us a couple steps closer to utopia (tongue firmly planted in cheek), and there are a lot more important and potentially useful AND dangerous uses of it, but can we scale back on stuff like AI-generated depictions used to signify the content of articles?
I just got a notification of a local article about the death of a HS teacher and the fact that grief counselors will be at the school, and the picture this national service chose to use is a clear AI-generated pic of a classroom with a bunch of depressed, scared and teary-eyed teens being consoled by an adult. Why? Is this really necessary? Are we going to turn every article into an AI-generated picture book now?

I’m excited for the chicken Big Mac. Should be available soon. The chicken supposed to be similar to a larger chicken McNugget.

Asking for a friend. How long would you let a delivered pizza sit in the fridge before you stopped considering eating it lol

In the fridge? Shoot, I'm pretty sure I've eaten pizza which has sat in a box on top of the stove for five days.

I am seeing a lot of these commercials for a company called Chime which advertises they get you your paycheck early with no fees, etc...Outside of my curiosity as to how they make money, lets say you get paid Fridays and it moves it up to Tuesday. Isn't that just your new payday and it doesn't really solve anything?

I assume it's some sort of advance on your paycheck that they fund, but I haven't looked into it to see what they get out of it.
It at least solves a short-term cash flow/payment timing issue, but yeah, a couple months of that, and you're still making X a month and owe X+1 a month. The bills aren't going down (or away).

I don't think it is a scam, just doesn't make sense. If you fall in to a rhythm with them you're still in a spot where it is the same amount of time in between checks.

The Rockdale Water and Soil Conservation District Supervisor collapsed today at Georgia Capital, where he was a part of a public meeting on the Biolab fire plume. He died shortly after. I am not much on conspiracy theories, but....

Discover bank does a similar thing where they make your direct deposit available a day or two before it would show up at other banks.

Speaking of scams, anyone received a call about missing federal jury duty. Got one the other day while stressing about my tree, and having no power and just enough juice to work. Guy called saying he was Sargent so and so with my police dept and there was a warrant out for my arrest for missing federal jury duty a few months ago. I felt like it was a scam but seemed so odd that I hung on way longer than needed. What finally pushed me was him saying I would need to stay on the phone while I drove to the police station.
I felt like A) that was stupid, and B) we were 5 days removed from a fucking hurricane and we could barely get out of the neighborhood. I told him I would have to walk there so he said to hold to wait for his supervisor. I hung up and he immediately called me back saying I would be in trouble if I did it again. I said cool and just called the courthouse who happened to be opened and they confirmed it's a scam. The callers were decent and since they spoofed the PD number at one point so it seemed plausible. God knows if we could have somehow missed a jury summons. Funny thing was, a few minutes later I got another call from a different Sargent, but he was asking for a different person in Warner Robbins, GA. I told him I'm not this guy and he just kept getting angrier with me saying someone is getting sent to the house. Cool, cause I don't live there. I could also hear the guy who initially called me in the background. So I just went off and told them to fucking collaborate better cause I can hear the dumb fuck who just spammed me and to maybe find something better with your life. He then really started to go off and threatened to arrest me himself so I told him to fuck himself and hung up since I had about 10% battery and no way to recharge. Once I got recharged I just randomly called them every few hours acting distressed to fuck around with them. Anyway, the scam is to somehow direct you to a Walmart or Bitcoin machine to send a gift card number or money to a "police" account to get rid of the warrant. |

I've heard about that one.
I think the ones that are really going to get people in the future, especially older people, are the ones that can AI generate the voice of a kid or grandkid saying they need bail money. |

I expect once they have you in the car they divert you. I suspect human nature the further into the scam you get the more likely they are to snag you. My older neighbor almost fell for one. She was getting in her car and last second decided to knock on my door and ask me if it was legit. |

Did a little googling, it sounds like they tell you that if you go to the police station, they will just arrest you immediately before you can even make the payment. I guess they just happen to mention that fact while you're on the way. Also, I didn't even know that there was such a thing as a bitcoin machine. |

I've had that scam, but a more pernicious one is where they call an older person and pretend to be their "son" and they're calling from jail and need bail, or from the hospital and need money or something. Something to warn your parents about.

Funny this came up. I saw a bitcoin machine of sort some at a gas station this weekend, not sure if it's the first one I've ever seen or just the first time I've noticed one.
But I noticed it a couple days before I saw it mentioned in this thread so it wasn't like aided recall or something.

Apparently Coke is bringing back a limited edition flavor in the UK that I've never seen here - Cinnamon. I'm pissed.

Other Coke news: Coming in 2025, Sprite + Tea and Coke Orange Cream, which is supposed to be similar to the discontinued Orange Vanilla. I'm happy to hear about Orange Cream because I loved Orange Vanilla.

I guess this is the first pair of Converse chucks I’ve had. But I wear 13 in every other brand. It said to order a half size down so I ordered a 12. They still fit big. Guessing I could fit an 11.5 easily and probably also an 11. Stuff like this makes no sense.

Reese's certainly have their place in the candy hall of fame. And I probably eat Kit-Kats more than any other single candy bar, as the midpoint between sweet & satisfying (as opposed to the less enjoyable but more filling Snickers).
But for straight up decadent enjoyment that I could eat way too many of in one sitting, when push comes to shove I'm more of a Three Musketeers guy than anything else. So now ya know.
