FIU closes out the season with a 24-21 victory over UL Monroe. After 1 quarter the score was 10-0 FIU and it looked to be a blowout in the making. In the end, we were just happy to come away with the win and finish the season at 11-3.

As always, I don't claim to be a slider guru. If there is a good set out there, please feel free to suggest it. I really don't get to play outside of this league and the Ladder, so I don't have time to test other slider sets. Last edited by Kodos : 04-18-2014 at 09:52 AM. |

Speaking of sliders, I went the entire season wo seeing a PI call against me or the CPU.

I'm not quite good enough to beat a team rated ~25 points better than me just yet :P I did manage to weather a 17-0 start to come back and make it an interesting game, Miami ended up beating me 45-38.

Finished my bowl game. We won.
Two interesting developments. We had a comfy lead late and were close to my coach getting a new skill point so I ran up the score to ensure it. I heard a new commentary from Herby I hadnt previously heard, "You know there was some jawing on the field before kickoff and apparently the coach took it personal because he is making a point to ensure the score leaves no doubt in voters minds the dominant team here. We've seen teams throw when leading late before and take heat for it, but few ever go no huddle and keep throwing." HAHAH Now interesting point #2. Regarding sliders. Right before I playd this gameI played another league I am in with default AA sliders. This game played identical to that one, and I had none of the weird rb bigs I normaly get in this league. It was the Hawaii bowl and my opponent was UVA, the crowd was decidedly my way the entire game, maybe momentum playd a part but it seemed ...I dont know, different game play feel than normal Offensivelly. Defensivelly no matter the settings in any of my leagues I can not get a realistic Defense experience. If I blitz EVERY 1st and 2nd down and play soft zones on 3rd I can control the tempo. Anytime I dont blitz I get ran all over, there is no middle ground and it feels cheesy to literally zero blitz 3 times in a row and then field a punt...but I wanted a bowl win |

We'll be on hold for a day or two. Creating a spreadsheet to track results over time, and will need a night or two.
The Ladder History Thread - Front Office Football Central Unless you guys don't care about tracking stuff. (I'd be fine with that option.) |

I'm definitely willing to wait a couple days for cool history tracking.

I love the ladder history...it adds to it. So I am willing to wait for one for here.

What comes next? I've never played a '14 offseason so I have no clue what to expect.

I think the next stage is players leaving then player transfers or something like that after I roll us forward.

And this illustrates my sliders dilemma. Gramm goes undefeated with a crappy team and runs up insane stats. We clearly have a wide range of stick skills in the league. How to make it challenging for a guy like Gramm while not making it an impossible slog for older guys like myself whose best days are long gone? Last edited by Kodos : 04-25-2014 at 12:00 PM. |

It doesn't bother me at all to see someone dominating like UTEP, sliders should be tailored around giving as many people as possible a good challenge while not making it too hard so that we have guys going 2-10 or whatever if we have anyone lagging behind. Of course, I had the #3 guy for the Heisman with one of the worst rosters in the league, so I'm gonna be fine with whatever we do. I think I'll be struggling a lot next year in the SEC though, I get the sense that there's a big gap between my skill level and UTEP's |

Corrected some mistakes in the screenshots. (Sorry for leaving OD out of the Conference Championship results, Heybrad!)

Hereis my take. Ive played more 14 already than I have all of 13. Im not a stick wizard but I feel pretty confident I know the game very well. (Ive logged about 65 sim seasons recruiting only) I dont know Gramm's play style at all but I suspect he uses read option and zone read a lot. And then play actions off of those. The option and read was obviously a developmental focus on this version, and from what I have seen as long as you call it over and over and make the right read you can amass insane stats. In fact the other online league I am in house rules to 5 option play call per game. Now its nearly impossible to enforce..but... You are not going to nerf that out with sliders. I set out this year attempting to run a true air raid only because I suck at it and wanted to force myslef to be a better passer... after the first or second tweak I was getting sacked 10 times a game and had to convert to a running attack. Late in the season I noticed myself slipping more and more into cheese zone running option play on 4th and short as it is a sure 1st down. Paul Johnson would be proud of me. I say let it roll as is and lets all meet at the top. I really really wish we would pick a slider set and stick with them for the entire next season however... |
