Well now Ron Keel kind of gets a pass from me (if he's trying something currently). I remember him making a pretty legit attempt to slide into country many years ago. It didn't work for him, but I always felt like it was legit.

I'm just saying, Nashville is the place for songwriters with easy access to a pretty hot crossover market. Butch Walker (Southgang, Marvelous 3) is around there as well.

It's eerie how much he looks like a drunk/stoned Ace Frehley:

Very very cool tonight to meet George Lynch & just say thank you for all the music & all the enjoyment. He couldn't have been nicer to me or my kid, certainly something I don't figure I'll ever forget.
Yeah it was only an anonymous couple of minutes after a so-so club gig in a town I bet a lot of people couldn't find on a map, I know all that kind of stuff ... it was still pretty fucking awesome to have that couple of minutes. You listen to somebody for almost 30 years, probably not going a week during that whole time without having at least one of their songs go through your head at some point (and usually several songs), they're like some weird part of your life or something. To have the chance to say thanks for all that, pretty fucking cool indeed.

Kinda surprised to not see a Jani Lane thread already on the board. I guess all of us 40ish members were too tired to start one last night...
Sad news, although I was mostly over hair metal by the time Warrant got popular and I never owned a single tape/CD of theirs. Jani did just tape an episode of That metal Show, so it will be interesting to see if it airs.

I was following twitter last night and saw several from Eddie Trunk, who happened to be at a Milwaukee Skid Row/LA Guns/Whitesnake concert.

A Woodland Hills Comfort Inn to be exact. That was one of the things that struck me sad when I read the (few) details, I mean damn, I stay at f'n Comfort Inns, that's not where rock stars are supposed to stay.

Not the way guys like him lived their lives, and then couldn't get along with former bandmates to keep the cash rolling in as a nostalgia act.

Their first not-so-strong-point is realizing they won't be a rock star forever.

Of all the things Metallica has done that everyone says "Cliff would never have done THAT", I'm hoping this Lou Reed debacle would be #1 on the list. It sounds like someone took a spoken word record and randomly mixed it over some rock riffs. It's turrible.
But anyway, RIP Cliff. I met Metallica less than a year after he died. Still one of the greatest nights of my life.

Anybody who has read the book Ready Player One knows that it's a big ol' homage to the 80's. If you haven't read it, you should...it's not going to win any awards for being amazing fiction or anything, but it was definitely a fun romp into 80's nostalgia. It is something I can see a lot of people here digging. Also, if you have Audible, the audio version is narrated by Wil Wheaton.
Anyway, the author came up with a "soundtrack" to the book. The link to the "soundtrack" is at http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...ial-soundtrack (it's a link to a Goodreads page for an online book club I'm part of where someone posted the links). That link has Spotify and Rdio links. /tk

With this week's surprise announcement that Jimi Jamison is returning to Survivor, I happened across a mention of a band that (I'm ashamed to admit that) I'd totally forgotten for about two decades.
Along with the voice, Cobra also featured future guitar star Mandy Meyer (Krokus, Asia). This was just damned solid hard rock.

What the hell happened to Rocklahoma? I thought it was mainly an 80s nostalgia show. Now... not so much.
I mean, I count maybe 5 80s-related bands - Slash, Queensryche, Jackyl, Lillian Axe, and Megadeth. Chickenfoot pushes it to 6, maybe. They've actually got a band with the word Tora in its name, and it's not Tora Tora. WTF?

Bumped into this online today, figured I'd mention it. Juan Croucier is back with Ratt & debuted at last weekend's M3 Festival. Their entire set is online (as are a lot of the others that aired on HDNet)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIzRFtRaiJw Fair warning: Pearcy sounds pretty rough IMO

Funny this thread got bumped today. I've been listening to "80's on the 8" all day (new car has Sirius trial). People might think 80's music is crap, but it was an absolute blast hearing so many songs I haven't heard in decades.

I love having XM. The only thing I don't like is how the "unrated" channels seem to have slowly crept from just the Howard Stern-type shows and one music channel per genre to nearly all of the non-terrestrial radio-type stations. For rock music, it used to be Liquid Metal was the only one you'd have to worry about hearing F-bombs on. Then they turned Boneyard over to Ozzy, and it's F this and F that in between every song, and even Lithium is that way now. About the only channels that aren't like that are the 2 classic rock stations and maybe Hair Nation (although that's obscene in its own way...).

I only have it in the car on free weekends, but I get it with my Dish Network package. I love the First Wave station, and don't recall hearing any swears.

Well, some of the stations naturally aren't going to have that. Coffee House or whatever it's called, I wouldn't expect to hear f-bombs from the DJs. I know Boneyard is the one I listen to pretty regularly in the car with my kids that's totally changed in the last several months. Now I have to switch the channel if they take a quick break in between songs, because usually it's Sharon Osbourne introducing a clip of Ozzy slurring and swearing his way through a story or comment about a song or what-not. The wife tends to get irate when the kids hear an f-bomb.
