Some twitter buzz that Mike Sherman could be out at A&M. Larry Fedora probably makes too much sense for that to happen, but it'd be a great fit for the Aggies if it did.

My only question is how does him balancing football and family life translate to how well he does on the field. If he does do it well enough, he's too good of a coach at a college that has potential to really not have mass success there. I can see the Big Ten being the Big Two again with Wisconsin and Nebraska being solid #3 and #4.

I just didn't see the need to lie. Even while he was lying, everyone knew he was taking the job. A simple "no comment" would've sufficed.

Wonder what his buddy St. Timmy would think of it?

I guess everyone loves this guy as a coach, but it makes me a little sick. I hated him at Florida. The ultimate drama queen, then bailing the year after The Golden Boy graduated.

ESPN Rumors section mentioned that Akron may be trying to work something out with Jim Tressell. Probably a giant long shot, but if he wants to keep coaching and pushing his win total up, neither he nor Akron would have much to lose if they his likely show-cause sanctions follow him to a school like that.

Illinois reportedly looking at Cincy's Butch Jones, Temple's Steve Addazio and Oklahoma's Brett Venables. Leach being named with just about every BCS opening -- it would be a surprise if he didn't return this season. Sounds like Arizona State is where he would prefer to land, but being mentioned with Kansas, Ole Miss and WSU, too.

The hypocrisy of college football never fails to amaze me - as a coach, go where you want, when you want, screwing recruits and getting big money to do so. As a player? HOw dare you want to transfer? Don't you know you're supposed to play for "the love of the game"?

That's hardly the same as coaches taking multi-million dollar deals at breakneck speed and having free will in the marketplace. For anyone else, you have to get your release and even then..they can restrict you from going in-conference and then there's the whole sitting out a year in most cases.

Yeah, totally the same thing.

Depends upon who you ask I guess but FWIW, Sagarin Ratings (combination of Elo-Chess & Predictor)

88 - Kansas (Elo 66 - Predictor 109)
90 - Boston College (Elo 96 - Pred 86)
92 - Minnesota (Elo 92 - Pred 90)
96 - Colorado (Elo 91 - Pred 104)
104 - Maryland (Elo 111 - Pred 101)
108 - Mississippi (Elo 102 - Pred 115)
109 - Duke (Elo 114 - Pred 106)
142 - Indiana (Elo 149 - Pred 129)

He didn't lie. He claimed he wasn't offered the job, nor accepted it. This does not mean the AD and him weren't talking back and forth about it with great big puppy dog eyes.

Kentucky likely took itself out of the running with beating Tennessee.

Jumped them all the way to 82 combined, 72 Elo, 94 Predictor

Incidentally, Tennessee is 51/47/54.
And just for a random comparison, UCLA is 52/39/70

Erickson out at ASU. Yeah, can't see Christensen lasting another year in Laramie. Someone will snap him up when the dominoes fall I think.

Just wonder who they'll replace him with. It's a much better job than the one he inherited, that's for sure.

Gus Malzahn and Skip Holtz are supposedly the front runners for the UNC job. Hearing that Tommy Bowden could land at USF if Holtz goes.

A&M will have a hard time paying off Sherman, plus their Big 12 exit fees, plus a new coach. That's why a lot of folks think they are stuck with him until his contract is over.

The only name that doesn't fit the list is Larry Fedora, and that's because he's the only one who isn't a dog with fleas. But even then I'm not sure Leach, Leavitt or a Stoops would touch the KU job with a ten-foot pole right now. Maybe Ron Stoops, but that's about it.

I think you forget who the current Kansas AD is; Sheahon Zenger. He is actually good friends with Mike Leach, Jim Leavitt, and the Stoops from his time as a coach in football. That's why you're hearing those names reported because of his personal ties with each of those coaches.

I've heard that KU is willing to overpay to get some interest. We'll see if that happens.

I know I stump for Ron English and it may be because I see more EMU then I ever saw Buffalo, but Gill was 20-30 at Buffalo and followed it up with 5-19 at Kansas. He should have never gotten the Kansas job but he did. It's better to cut ties now if you don't think he can succeed rather then endure another season of misery since it's going only set the program back further.

To defend Turner Gill a bit, Buffalo was in horrid shape when he arrived. He matched their combined wins over the previous ten years in his second year if I remember correctly. So although he had a poor record (20-30) at Buffalo, that is actually a huge improvement from what he inherited.

Gill's downfall at Kansas was the staff he surrounded himself with and his struggles with game planning. Gill is a player friendly coach and needed to surround himself with a few disciplinarians for an easier transition from Mark Mangino's coaching style. He didn't and you could see the drop-off in execution and effort in practice. That's ok if you have the talent to get by with it, but Kansas' roster most definitely does not have that luxury. Game planning was never his strong point at Buffalo, but he made a couple of critical mistakes in moving away from the spread offense and 4-3 defense so quickly in his tenure. He probably would have been much more competitive had he slowly adjusted the game plan, but I think he was so confident in how he did things that he assumed the players would be able to compete from day one with the new systems. That was not the case.

Who will the next coach at Kansas be? My guess would be Leach just because I don't think he is UCLA nor Arizona State's first choice. If neither of those two get their first choice then Kansas will likely look at Fedora.

I totally let this slip my mind (much like the last 3 years) but I really hope more then ever that ASU hires Ron English just so we can have multiple years of RichRod vs English on a national stage. English is not much of a fan of ol' Rich.

You can't seriously expect a school to be able to sell hiring a guy who bombed out of his first major job in just 2 years, immediately after he's fired. If anything, give Price one more year and then maybe hiring Gill can be sold to someone. Although at this point, he may need to rebuild the brand.

Yep, that's why I was confident enough to call it a "done deal" despite not having MBBF's sources.

Watching SportsCenter about the Mike Leach story right now... I am referred to as "Sources" ... interesting.

Geez... ESPN makes watching sports news so uncomfortable these days. And that's without factoring in the recent Bernie Fine stuff, where ESPN is hiding behind journalism to avoid being called the media equivalent of JoePa.

Kelly, RichRod, Tedford, Leach...and you just know UCLA and ASU will hire offensive coaches, too. The Pac 12 will be a fun conference to watch if you like offense.

Okay, I guess Kiffin is an offensive coach, too, and Sark. Sorry, hard to give credit to Trojies.

I don't count them as innovative like those other four, though (although sure as heck Tedford seems to be trying to hurt his rep with his QB development the past few years).

Someone tweeted Sumlin to UCLA and June Jones to Arizona State.

And Monte Kiffin to retirement.

Sumlin has been mentioned on a couple UCLA sites as Plan B, so if you presume everyone is right about Plan A not panning out, then Sumlin makes sense.

And, yes, those two would also be innovative additions from the standpoint of offensive football.

Is the Monte Kiffin thing a joke (because of all the offense), or is that seriously out there? I would imagine the DC spot at USC would be a highly desired coordinator spot, or at least would be without the scholie limits (and maybe even with them).
