I've re-read this thread many, many times over the course of almost two decades and I still can't say if we have either a) managed not to answer QS's original question or b) answered it to the nth degree.

it was the tour from Steel Wheels. Actually the ones played from that album sounded the best.

Yes, I'm dredging this thread back up to post a tweet from 2018.

I do not care for this man's music in the least. I would consider it torture to be forced to listen to it.

So I enjoy Billy Joel but I a also enjoy schmaltzy Paul McCartney so it shouldn't be surprising.

One thing that's dawned on me recently is that I really hate The Police. I used to enjoy them, but if any of their songs come up in my favorites I just skip it instantly. The songs are so damn annoying. I'm just too damn lazy to actually remove the songs from my playlists. And it's not from hearing the songs too much... it's just that they objectively suck.

I won't go that far, but their "reggae pop/rock" style is very limiting and dated-sounding.

I still enjoy a smattering of Police songs, although I probably like more Sting solo songs at this point.

So I won it as a random drawing at a kickoff party sponsored by Cincy Beat, to start Cincy Taco Week. There were a number of different prizes, that's just what I pulled. So I didn't really have a choice in it. But.....I had intended to actually go. I mean, how bad could it be? But it registered so low in my current crazy world that it came and went without a thought. By the time I had remembered it again, it was passed. I could have only given them away, but again, who wants to go to this show? I imagined like 8 people in the Taft theater, so it probably sucked.

heh I probably would have gone if I'd known...although...I would have had to pay for parking. Hmmm. Tough call.

Last week I saw Steve Hackett there. (Genesis guitarist who is touring old genesis albums and solo stuff with his band). Was phenomenal...and I actually get to perform there in a month too.

[Tuesday evening. Scraping sound of beat-up folding chair on church basement floor as albionmoonlight haltingly stands up.]

"So my wife, Mrs. A, is involved with a local lifestyle magazine. And, um, they had a gala the other night. So there were a lot of people there from all of the local businesses getting awards and stuff. And so there was an open bar, and I had a few drinks. Not a lot. Just, you know, a couple beers. And then a glass of champaign near the end of the night.

[everyone in the circle watches patiently]

"Anyway, things were winding up, and the vibe was pretty celebratory. And there were these guys from the local pizza place, and they had kind of taken over the dance floor. They were pretty drunk, I think. They were really happy. And then they saw me and waved me over. And then the song changed, and we all sort of stood together and started singing . . .

[rusty church basement radiator knocks once or twice. All else is silent.]

[with resolve and bravery]: "My name is albionmoonlight, and I enjoyed singing Piano Man."

Apparently there was a Billy Joel concert broadcast on network TV last night. The only reason I know this is because there is a massive thread on Nextdoor about people complaining that the concert was interrupted by a breaking news alert from the local station.

It sounds like it was a little different. There was a breaking news alert prior to the show that caused them to cut to local news because they didn't add the buffer to account for that breaking news so the system thought it was over. It was also impacted by the Masters running long.

So apparently all the cbs affiliates in central and eastern cut away from the billy joel concert 2 minutes early causing what they call "Enraged Billy Joel fans" to harass their local stations.

I have honestly never heard the phrase "Enraged Billy Joel Fans" before, but I'm definitely not afraid of anyone whose favorite song is "Piano Man". "Iron Man" maybe...

I would imagine there's significant overlap between Billy Joel fans inclined to become enraged, and stereotypical "Karens". At least that's what I'm picturing in my mind. Karens and whatever the male version of a Karen is.
