There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do.

I'm still hopeful. I don't get posting that if there wasn't something to the idea of resurrecting the series.

I was hoping for an EA tease commercial during the game last night . As EF27 mentioned, I'm still hopeful. You don't post for the first time in two years with something like that - there has to be something in the works.

Who cares about rosters, the teams are different within a 2-3 year span anyway.

Browsing the NCAA forums over at OS gave me the idea for the most challenging OD yet. All user teams start off with a one-star team of made up of nothing but seniors in season 1, so that in year 2 you start off fresh with only 25 scholarship players on your roster (think UAB after they dropped football then started over). For fun, user teams could also be thrown in conferences with 5 and 6 star teams. I'd probably never win a game! We'd just do recruiting in Year 1, simming the games.

Not that I'm actually proposing another new OD... I just love kicking around new ideas.

Yep. That's part of the reason that I frequently check the NCAA forums over at OS. I think it's safe to say no new game this year.

Which is why we must work to keep NCAA 14 fresh.

A new NCAA game would require a whole new thread.

I haven't played a video game since the old game stopped, despite my younger daughter being an avid gamer. That said, if they brought this back, I'd buy a new system to play it.

What I'd really like at this point is a way to play one of the last versions on a PC.

If they made a completely generic game that was incredibly customizable (ie. possible for people to make the real schools and conferences), great. I hope 2K goes that route with hoops.

I realize that I am in the minority here, but if EA just made a game with randomly generated rosters and didn't even allow customization, I'd be all over that.

The problem is, without customization, you would have just a generic game. Not only can they not do rosters, but they can't even do schools. They'd HAVE to allow customization.

I've asked a friend of mine on the Madden team and I've been told they're "ready" as soon as the court cases/licensing gets settled to make NCAA again. Unfortunately, the legal aspect is far from over.

Ah. I thought that the issue was solely with the players. I didn't realize you couldn't do schools/logos/fight songs/etc. I agree that without that, the game wouldn't be worth making.

Anyone else playing "College Football Revamped" (a super modded NCAA 14).

I'm blown away by the work these guys have done. New stadiums and uniforms (most teams have at least 8 or 9 alternate uniforms). Ability to play in 4K resolution on the PC via the RPCS3 emulator (still at 1080p on PS3 and Xbox consoles). They've added several hundred new plays to the playbooks, including many RPO's, bubble screens, flea flicker, etc. Rosters are current for the 2021-2022 season.

They've even got a tool to seamlessly add the 4-team college football playoff, or 8-team playoff (power five champions, highest ranked group of five champion and two highest ranked at-large). In the 4-team playoff, the two playoff bowls circulate as they do in real life. I'm running through a test dynasty, and I just simmed the 2023 season with Alabama defeating Georgia in the National Championship game at NRG Stadium in Houston (they've even got the national championship logo on the field and patch on the players uniforms).

Pretty cool. This hasn't yet been confirmed in real life, but in my CFR test dynasty my old home town hosts the 2024-2025 National Championship game.

I have been considering trying out this emulator because there are supposed to be some really good mods to Head Coach 09 that you can play on that as well. Is it hard to set up and get to work? How hard is it to add the mods?

It was a fairly straightforward process for me. To install the mod, you just drag the CFR mod file into the emulator and it automatically installs it. You will have to install the base PS3 NCAA 14 game on the emulator first. If you have a copy of NCAA 14 and a blu-ray drive, you can burn the files to your PC. There are multiple pirated copies floating around online, but I don't condone that.

The biggest issue for most people is not having a sufficient CPU to run the game at 4K 60fps and full audio. To do so, you need to have an 8 core, 16 thread CPU. There are workarounds for less powerful CPU's, including reducing the gameplay to 30 fps and turning the audio off. Probably not a huge deal to miss out on Nessler and Herbie belaboring the obvious after every play.

Of course, there are a lot of people who are still playing this on PS3 and XBox consoles, and there are mods for those as well.

Here is the link for all three mods (PC, PS3, XBox):

This looks way too over my head to understand how to do any of this. I don't even know what an emulator is. Anyway, I clicked on that link and had a good laugh at this.

Never change, console people!

Known Mod Issues:
Pink (or miscolored) cleats for Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, App State, Georgia Southern, and Pitt in uniform select: This is glitch with the original game that we cannot fix. The issue will only show during uniform select. All team colors will properly show in game.
Teams with incorrect gloves: This was a result of our major glove overhaul with v11 and will be fixed very soon.

I cant tell you how much I want this to be playable for me. But I get a constant error when I try to rip the disc to the hard drive of the PS3. Can play the game fine but it wont get fully copied to teh HDD. Sad.

If/when a new NCAA25 or whatever comes out, one positive for me is that I won't have to take like a New Mexico State or Idaho to build them up from the bottom, I'll be able to take Florida State!

As impressive as all of the cosmetic additions are, to me the improved gameplay in CF Revamped stands out as the most impressive thing.

They added 1000+ plays and also expanded the CPU playbooks. In the base NCAA 14 game, the CPU ran the same 35 plays a game. That's why you'd see screens on 3rd down all the time, now they've expanded the CPU to full playbook and they do use the full playbook which makes the game better. They also updated and improved the no-huddle and 4th down logic.

Regarding defense, they have updated the CPU playcalling logic. The defense playcalling is set to match NCAA league averages. 32% Man, 26% Cover 3-4-6, 16% Blitz, 11% Cover 2, 1% Cover 0 Blitz.

There are many who think the CPU play in CF Revamped is superior to Madden. EA Sports must have been impressed. They recently hired two of the guys who worked on the CF Revamped mod.

Question for those of you who have played the game. I don't control any of the players, so I just watch the CPU vs CPU of some of my games, and quick sim the others. So for me, it's more like playing OOTP Baseball or TCY, where I'm just doing administrative stuff like recruiting and setting up depth charts, etc.

With that being said, what are some good house rules to implement to make the game more challenging? For recruiting, I was thinking of only offering players who have my school in their top 10 as a start. I think the recruiting is too easy to exploit otherwise.

No adding players to your list after your initial 35 are picked and you’ve advanced a stage. No athlete -> QB position switches. That one is less important if you don’t control players.

I’m currently doing one where my roster has to have over 75% of my players from our home state (NY), and I can only recruit players from the Northeast states that touch NY.

So no workaround if I only have an XBOX copy of the game? Very interested in this. Played the game last year and it's amazing how it is still a much better game than modern Madden.
