That rule oughta be the same as the kicker rule if you're gonna have zero tolerance. 5 for touching, 15 for roughing. The idea that that was a 15 yard penalty is absurd.

Defense played tough. I knew they'd struggle once they realized how awful Phillips was and how you don't need to respect him at all.

Bad day for Big Ten. Lot of close losses. At least Northwestern won.

Haven't heard his name bandied around much, but I wonder if/when David Shaw will begin to get NFL interest soon or if he will have to win for a few more seasons to escape the Harbaugh shadow.

He has had a ridiculously impressive first two seasons (and breaking in a new QB this year).

Hats off to Shaw, he's been better than I have thought he'd be. He's probably still in Harbaugh's shadow, but if Hogan is the real deal, they'll be good for a while

Hogan looked very shaky tonight but he definitely has the 'it' factor. He'll be a good one most likely.

It is the responsibility of the defender to get out of the way and he was inside the 1 yard "halo" so either way it was a foul.

NIU is like a really strong wet paper towel that is trying to hold up a bowling ball. Valiantly holding on, but you know that eventually the bowling ball will break through (which may have just happened).

There. There's a comment.

Maybe FSU is a bocci ball. Or a duckpin ball. Probably not good enough to be a tenpin ball in the above scenario.

I can honestly say, as someone at Eastern Michigan U for six years of my professional life, that I have neverrooted as hard for a MAC school as I am right now

Anybody who can pick up Alabama's pressure can throw the ball against them. LSU managed that better than nearly everybody.

Much as I despise UGA, Mettenberger would have been 4th on the depth chart there if he had stayed. He was signed originally as what appeared to have largely been a gesture toward his mother, a long-time employee of the UGA athletic department. A decent QB at best in HS, he's got only slightly more business QB'ing a D1 team than I do.

I don't know how his career will ultimately turn out, but I love the name of Louisville's QB: Teddy Bridgewater.

OK, so the WR drops the football, clearly has a knee down even if he caught the football, the player takes two full steps and slams him in the head and the refs decide this isn't a 15 yard penalty? Wow. That was horrible.

I hate the rule, but if there is a leading with the helmet or helmet to helmet rule then the no catch blow up from Florida has to be a penalty

Then a clear face mask without a call? holy crap. The Cardinal have had the ball for like 5 plays and Florida has committed three personal fouls, only one of which was called. Good lord. . .

Not often you see 3 MAJOR penalties (when I say major, I mean the 15 yard plus variety) missed over the course of 6 plays. As bad as it has been so far, I can't imagine how ugly it will get now that Florida is losing by two TD's.

Incidentally ('cause this is getting a fair amount of discussion on my FB wall tonight) ...

Orange Bowl audience was up nearly 50% over last year's WVU blowout win ... and yet managed fewer viewers than UGA-Nebraska in the Outback Bowl.

In Preliminary Ratings ‘Rose Bowl’ Averaged 17 Million Viewers, Down 3% Vs. Last Year; ‘Orange Bowl’ Averaged 13.7 Million, Up 47% - Ratings | TVbytheNumbers

Orange bowl is tough to compare though id think, being on new years day primetime vs 1/4 on a Wednesday night....I'd certainly defer to your t. Ratings knowledge here though, I'd just think holiday night would have more available eyes.

I'm not buying the UF doesn't want to be in a BCS Sugar Bowl argument......

The FCS Championship is Saturday and features a rematch of last years teams; North Dakota State and Sam Houston St.

NDSU will surely be favored to repeat but Sam Houston will want some revenge after last year.

All I can say is "GO BISON!" Let's make it 2 National Championships in a row!

Their fans had no interest in the game -- they reportedly sold fewer bowl tickets this year than any bowling team in the SEC -- and it's pretty obvious the team (which I've considered overrated most of the season anyway) didn't either.

Jon ticket sales are down across the board as the bowls all held all sideline tickets for personal sale and only passed end zone seats to the schools.

I know i uhhhhhh sat in both Monday night

I'd say there were 25-30k orange tigers in atl but Clemson sold only 12 of their 17.5k allotment.

I'm starting to wonder if the reason SEC defenses are all so great is they mostly play SEC offenses.

Outside of A&m and gulp GA there isn't much o this year in the SEC, Mizzou was by all accounts horrid this year but statistically their D improved across the board simply because of the offenses they faced.

It's been documented as down but the issue with this year's "Splenda Bowl" seems to be more than that.

This game seems to have generated less buzz than even last night's FSU-NIU matchup. My FB isn't exactly devoid of Gator fans, not a peep - not a single word - since the end of the regular season. Deep down I'm convinced they know that their record is not indicative of the quality of this year's team. Combine that with an opponent that really isn't compelling in the slightest, it's a recipe for bowl blahs.
