I have played 5 games so far. Of course, I played the Lakers Vs. Bulls playoff game. James Worthy went apeshit and scored 34 of the Lakers 61. I lost 61-39.

Then, I use The Association and started as the Pacers. Firsthing I did was trade TJ Ford and someone else for JJ Redick and Quinten Richardson.

I have lost the first 4 games by at least 25 points. I have stretches where it seems like I can't buy a bucket. I miss everything. That's why I say I don't think I know what I am doing with the shot stick.

I looked up the controls over on the OS boards. DAMN! Whatever happened to just having a shoot button?

I'm gonna play the Tutorials. Hopefully I'll get better.

try the 2K camera. The swing after a change of possession takes some gtting used to (and turning it off takes away the main advantage of the camera), but you really have a lot more overview over the court, see lanes opening up and can rotate better on defense.
The one negative is that the distance to the basket on drives and post plays is more difficult to guess, but for me it made the game much more fluent on both ends.

Also, you really shouldn´t hesitate to lower the difficulty or adjust some sliders to your favour (f.e. lower the CPUs on-ball defense or up your shooting), you can allways scale it back again.

Just spend like 2 hours editing some stuff in the most recent roster update, then simmed ahead a year and am now playing some games for fun in a sort-of-association.

Joe Johnson took me apart to the tune of 31 points and 8 assists (on 12-18 shooting) but it was the good kind My best perimeter defenders are Wesley Johnson and Carlos Delfino and i have just 1 shot blocker, so there wasn´t much i could do.

Update on upcoming fixes for association :

- Issue where performing Weekly Practices makes your players have 1-star trade value.
- Issue where Intentional Fouls are disabled after participating in an Intra-Squad Scrimmage.
- Tuning Draft Class values to be more in-line with the players they are replacing in the league. Players will be less uniform in size/weight to their position as well (meaning there will be small chances for talented 6'6 point guards, 7' small forwards, etc.).
- Issue with trade frequency being greatly reduced in future years. Also, tuning the timing of in-season trades.
- Issue with good players still in the free agent pool after the Free Agents period has ended.
- Issue with the Qualifying Offers time period being automatically skipped on occasion, causing the loss matching rights on restricted free agents.
- Loosening the logic the CPU uses to decide whether to accept or decline team contract options.
- Issue with undrafted free agents signing unrealistic contracts (PC users won't notice this issue).
- Issue with in-game saves when the save is made while the game is in a timeout situation (don't create in-game saves during timeouts until the patch is released).

Mind you, this list isn't comprehensive. These are just the core issues we are looking at right now. I've seen a few mentions here and there of people saying they are hanging on a black screen between quarters. If you are one of these people, please get in touch with me ASAP.

Latecomer, but started up a my player while I wait for the patch to fix the association stuff.

3pt specialist SF. Got drafted at the end of the first round by Memphis. Through my first 3 games, I'm averaging 17 pts, and up to 18 min a game on the depth chart. I would like to slap OJ Mayo though. Takes the absolute worst shots.

Only gripe is I always feel like I'm fighting the game trying to move my guy around, especially on defense. That and I wish when I get myself open at the top of the key, I want to take a jump shot. Not run into the lane where I'm going to be stuffed by everyone on the opposing team.

Anyone have tips for defense, especially for My Player mode? The last 2k basketball game I played was College Hoops 2k8. I'm not that great on offense, but I've managed to at least get a handle on it, however I cannot stop anything on defense at all.

One advice i can give is not using turbo when moving laterally and guarding a ballhandler moving around on the perimeter, you are much more in controll and can switch directions faster that way.
Also allways tap the Y button when a guy is clearly shooting and you´ll challenge his shot without fouling (no turbo again !) and sometimes if he ends up faking it you can recover (when you jump with turbo he´s definitely long gone before you can react in that case)

Also make sure you know who you are guarding and consciously give him space or play him tigh and go under (slasher) or over (jumpshooter) screens on and off the ball.

NEVER USE TURBO. Ever since 2k9, i've only used the turbo button purely for fastbreaks, big men blocks, and dunks. Not using turbo allows your player to change speeds and directions better.

Try raising Agility, this rating affects your player's movement around the court.

When you're going to shoot a straight jumper, make sure that your feet are planted (meaning, you're no longer moving or holding the left stick) before taking the shot. A good way of getting yourself open with the ball is using the Sizeup move that walks you backwards to free up space, and then hitting the jumper.

Propably my favourite move in the game is holding the left trigger, while in triple threat fake to the right, go left with 1 or 2 dribbles (release LT, move left stick right) and then pull up for the Jumper.

Has anybody read anything about 2K acknowledging that there are absolutely zero charges in the game (save for the odd guard running over a screener or when backing down with a big guy) ? That annoys the heck out of me playing with non-shot-blockers.

Also, rebounding is purely determined by size and athleticism, it´s borderline impossible to get good rebounding numbers with a guy like Kevin Love.


Also, i really like the direction they went with their soundtracks theese last couple years going away from Hip Hop and really offering a great mix of songs, even within the genres it´s well mixed up in between "classic" stuff and non-typical songs.
Precious Metals by Russian Futurists is absolutely amazing as is that "symphonies" song.

Can somebody give me a quick line about the multiplayer stuff? Me and 2 friends are thinking of picking this one up, are there any good co-op or persistent multiplayer modes in the game? I mean, stuff that goes beyond just exhibition games. Also, can a player join an association game over live?

We'd like to play modes that we can play with just the three of us, we're not really into playing with random people.

right ? It´s ridiculous since the code for assigning points without playing is allready in ...
All i want is build up my player for a season or 2, then sim ahead and only play half a dozen games a year and the playoffs.

Also, i want to be able to take controll of any player and guide him through a season or career. Hope after this years Jordan-hypefest they implement that possibility next year.

How fun would a season mode like that be with incentives you are given (or give yourself) ? Or even career mode, wouldn´t it be fun to take controll of your favourite aging star in his quest to get that ring before retiring ?

If you sim, also have on mind that you gain zero skill points no matter how your player plays in that simmed game.

I haven´t actually tested simulating it as i really fail to see the point of the whole mode as it is structured right now and only played until the draft and a couple Jordan games... That´s one thing imo that EA has done a good job with, that versatility of their modes in regards to how you can play the mode.
Like with FIFA or NCAA giving you the option to play with an existing player or FIFA giving you the oportunity to play your virtual pro in other modes.

I mean, it´s not sooo bad as i´d guess that most guys would be near maxed out after 2,3 or 4 seasons playing every game, right ? And since you allways play better and get a bigger role than your rating would suggest and get playing time acordingly (even start as a 55 rated player or sth from what i´ve read) i wouldn´t actually mind being at best a 70-75 rated guy when i could still be a focal point of the team i´m on.

I really need a good set of sliders. On All-Pro difficulty last year, I could score at ease and would basically have to lay off sometimes to make games competitive.

I'm in game 2 of my franchise with the Clips, against the Warriors on All-Pro, Simulation mode, and I'm getting whooped 20-45 in the 2nd quarter (12 minute quarters). I just cannot get any penetration, have 0 idea how to do low post moves, and basically am terrible on offense. This is quite a step up of difficulty from last year.

simulation is crap as it is IMO, at least i had the same problems with it (it just seems a little artificial with literally no on ball steals, very little penetration resulting in stale gameplay and very, very low shooting percentages)

are you on the 360 ? If you are i just upped my current set. Tag is Whomario like here, it´s titled "Mario3" .

That´s the version i used on both pro and all star with a few changes here and there on sliders that are easy to test/see the changes (on ball defense f.e. or the shooting percentages)

main thing is that the on ball defense is way down (and awareness a little as well) but help defense up to make up for it (in the real NBA almost any player can get by his man, the thing from keeping the so-so offensive players from being effective that way is help defense) and less frequent contact on shots which i liked better than upping the ability to hit those shots. Also Contest Shot down to make for fewer successfull pump fakes.
as far as attributes go : quickness and vertical down (quickness i give myself an advantage ...) and offensive rebounding up.

The good thing is that basically all slider really work the way you´d expect and adjusting things to your liking has become really easy this year compared to 2,3 years ago.

I´d also recommend you download Nogsters Roster (nogman7), he did some good quick fixes for tendencies and new playbooks (mainly cpu shot distribution which is atrocious with the 2K roster) . Only thing i changed with that was the run plays in the coach profiles, put that between 45 and 75 instead of everything at 100.

Can I reiterate how much I hate OJ Mayo in this game?

Through the first 11 games of the season, Memphis is 8-3. I'm averaging 22.5 ppg, 7.3 rpg, and 2.9 apg. I've worked my way up to the 6th man spot, and getting about 29 mpg. Jordan hired me as a brand ambassador, and shortly after that I got my first billboard which looks pretty cool.

I've been focusing on my shooting talents. 95 medium (+5 Jordan shoe), 91 3PT, and 81 off the dribble so that's helping me score a bunch during the game. The Grizzlies actually had me pick out 5 players that I'd like for them to try to trade for. Only played 1 game since then, so not sure what will come out of it.

I really do hate OJ Mayo though. It's like his whole game plan is to run into 4 defenders and see if he can hit the rim. God forbid I hold the ball for more than 3 seconds though, and I get hit with a half a grade downgrade.

Yeah, the downgrade for holding the ball too long is fucking nuts. Theres times where I'll actually be creating something positive and then BOOM.

Maybe you guys can help me. I need to find some balance.

On the Pro level, I haven't scored more than 46 points and I have lost every game by 20-30 points. I lower the difficulty to Rookie last night and I ended up beating the Nuggets by over 40. Remember I traded for Redick? I went 11/12 from 3pt range with him. So, this is a little too easy now.

Can I play with the sliders and get a good balance between the 2?

I think the game does a really good job of highlighting how hard it is to find a really good point guard that isn't me-first.

I do wish they'd give us some sliders in My Player to manage tendencies. I think Leandro Barbosa (Raptors) is shooting 28% from 3 and low 30%s overall because he'll toss up an off-balance 3 even if Dwight Howard is on him.

I've never done it, but there is apparently a very popular online feature called "Crew" where you and your friends play on the same team vs. other crews.

"Online play is similarly deep, letting you organise tournaments and leagues as well as create a "crew" (FPS fans, think of a clan), share game sliders, videos and even scout out your opponent's favourite teams and plays. Even if you never step foot in the offline game, there's enough content online to last you for months."

In a strange way, I appreciate how the game models these things as well. I just hated seeing Douglas be such a ball hog during games. Felton could never get back on the floor soon enough.

It was kinda funny seeing that empty coach chair at the press conference and realize that it was Douglas and the general lack of rebounding that did D'Antoni in. As a shooting guard, I haven't been much help on the glass. Hopefully, the front office can find a decent center this offseason. I don't want to see Eddy Curry back again.

One of the things I really like about My Player is that this is the first game with this single player mode where I have some real feelings about my teammates. I'll pull for Chanler to finish that 'and 1' and cheer when he does. I'll plead with Douglas to get rid of the ball and cringe when he throws up another bad shot. It might be the nature of basketball, but 2k11 offers a lot of these kinds of moments. It makes me feel like I am on more of a team than just trying to achieve individual goals and build up my character. I haven't had this connection with my team with EA's Be a Pro modes yet.

Looks like there are some glitches with coaches in My Player. It literally is a coaching carousel on high speed. George Karl is coaching his third team in the last month. The Magic fired Van Gundy and hired Paul Westphal. The Spurs fired Popovich and hired Monty Williams. Byron Scott is out in Cleveland. Thibodeau is done in Chicago only to be hired by the Clippers. And the list goes on...funny thing is, five games after D'Antoni got fired by the Knicks, we win two in a row and our coach gets fired again. I didn't even get a chance to see who he was before seeing another empty chair at the press conference and taking questions about who was responsible for the firing.

Seems to work well with my playing style and stats are pretty realistic considering that you are using real player percentage for shooting and free throw shooting. Tried a couple of others, but this one makes me happy.

So what's the verdict on this game? I was sorely tempted the other day when I picked up COD to pick it up too...what are the overall thoughts?

I picked up DDS:PB the other day, but I'm utterly horrible at team-building apparently, and I also think I want a 3d game where I can run the fast break and dunk and everything.

Worth full price?

I'm enjoying it a lot. I play the My Player mode daily and have progressed my guy up to 93. I haven't started association mode yet, but will eventually, probably once the patch is released. Speaking of the patch, according to Ronnie 2K's tweets, the notes are due out around 4PM PST.

Are there issues? Yep. However, it's still fun for me, much more so than NBA2K10 was. Can't say it's as good as College Hoops 2K8 to me, but it's definitely a solid basketball game. A lot of the issues that people are having don't bother me to the same extent or I haven't encountered them. I don't want it to exactly mirror the NBA, but I do want it to play a solid game of basketball. While they don't have the greatest basketball game just yet, they're getting close.

Now, if someone can tell me how to force the CPU to trade Vince Carter so he'll stop being a ball hog, I'll be good.

As you can see, we have worked hard to take fan feedback and make the "greatest sports game of this generation" (IGN) that much better. The update is slated to hit PlayStation 3, XBOX 360, and PC platforms over the next couple weeks. GENERAL GAME FEATURES
- Fixed a soft hang that would occur when loading an in-game save that was created during a timeout situation. This change also affects in-game saves created in the various game modes (Association, My Player, etc.). It addresses the My Player freeze issue that some of you have run into: http://www.2ksports.com/forums/showthread.php?t=272363.

- Fixed a hang on startup (when the game went to load files) that would happen when the user had a large number of saved files on the hard drive/storage device.

- The Cleveland Cavaliers court floor has been updated to reflect the design being used for the 2010-11 season.

- The ‘My Rookie of the Year’, ‘One for All’, and ‘Not Over Yet’ Achievements/Trophies should now properly unlock once the necessary conditions are met.

- Long socks should no longer appear visually corrupted during gameplay.

- Correct player signatures are now shown on Pressbooks that are uploaded to the 2K Sports server.

- The ‘Player Progression’ menu (Located in Features -> Living Rosters) should now properly work when new Living Roster updates are applied. Please delete the ‘Player Progression’ save file after the patch is released so the system can bring the file up-to-date.

GAMEPLAY
- Improved Shot Stick shot release timing and consistency across offline and online games.

- Fixed a rare hang that would occur when intentionally fouling the inbounder.

- Dunks will now branch into mid-air collisions, resulting in contact layups and changes in shots.

- Big men with low vertical ratings will now jump the appropriate height when rebounding and contesting shots.

- Addressed an exploit when using the Hopstep Dunk. Players will now branch to a contested shot animation when defenders are nearby.

- The ballhandler will no longer pick up his dribble when a ‘take charge’ attempt fails.

- Users are now able to execute the Crossover move when using the ‘Alternate A’ controller configuration.

- Added high trajectory shots when the shot is taken along the baseline. This will reduce/eliminate baseline shots that just hit off the side of the backboard.

- Addressed a playcalling issue where non-stars are getting a bulk of the plays run for them during specific situations.

- Queued pass/shot commands are now deleted when a fumbled catch occurs.

- Improvements have been made to the directional passing system with the end result being more accurate pass targeting.

- Tuned under-basket shots such that big players are no longer overpowered by smaller defenders, thus forcing a bad shot.

- Body-ups have been re-tuned such that good dribblers do not ‘lose’ during a mismatch or by taking good angles.

- Queuing a fake pass command when catching the ball will no longer result in a touch pass.

- Missed and inaccurate passes will now play at an appropriate rate when passing out of a shot or contact shot.

- Long range passes have been re-tuned to fix a gameplay exploit. Also, improved defender reactions on such passes so that they are properly contested.

- Users are no longer able to call a timeout when they are bobbling the ball.

- Improved AI logic for boxing out, ensuring that players go into boxout situations when appropriate.

- Players boxing out their opponent should no longer be called for Over the Back fouls.

- Tuned ‘Take Charge’ logic such that charges will now be properly called when the defender is set. This includes a fix for the pro-hop exploit where charges were not being called.

- Fixed an issue with player swapping during rolling inbounds; users will no longer be stuck controlling a player with the inability to switch players.

- AI defenders will no longer closely guard bad shooters far from the hoop when not necessary.

- Improved AI steal behavior and tuned the overall steal frequency/difficulty; defenders should now only attempt steals when they are actually looking at the ball.

- On the ‘Casual’ game style only, defenders are now slightly slower to react on passes, thus limiting the number of pass deflections.

PRESENTATION
- Fixed a long hang that would sometimes occur at the end of the highlight reel between quarters.

- When an Arena Music event is triggered, it will now randomly select one of the available songs instead of always playing the first song in the list.

- Addressed a few minor audio issues including instances where the commentators would call a few players by the wrong name, instances where a commentary line would cut out mid-sentence, instances where the commentary would refer to a missed shot as a made shot, and clean-up in the Doris Burke analysis during playoff situations.

- The commentators will now tell Coach ‘stories’ during gameplay. These stories tie-in with the Player/Team stories for an increased presentation experience.

- Users are now able to button through lengthy substitution overlays and get right back to gameplay.

- Fixed a very rare hang that would happen during the Player of the Game segment at the end of the game.

- Fixed an occurrence where the incorrect portrait was displayed for a created/generated player.

ONLINE
- Voice Chat improvements have been made to eliminate/reduce the amount of background static that can be heard in Team-Up/Pick-Up games.

- Users are no longer able to substitute in injured/fouled out players during Crew games.

- Opponents can no longer see Pick and Roll and Play Calling icons during online games.

- Addressed a game disconnect issue when one user would call a timeout, quit out of the game, and attempt to start another game.

ASSOCIATION
- Addressed a hang that would occur in the transition between the 1st and 2nd quarters in the weeks leading up to the All-Star break.

- Injured players will no longer lose their Player Role due to an injury, which ultimately led to may unhappy players around the league.

- Fixed an issue that caused a decrease in trading activity in future years. This same issue also resulted in valued free agents not signing during the free agency time period of the offseason.

- Home court advantage (for simulated games) has been toned down during the regular season, and even more so during the playoffs (this fix also applies to My Player mode).

- Participating in Intra-Squad Scrimmages will no longer disable Intentional Fouls during regular NBA games.

- Addressed an issue where trade values would drop to 1-star when a Weekly Practice was scheduled.

- Fixed a bug where coaches would get fired continuously (this fix also applies to My Player mode).

- Users are now able to properly waive players in the Training Camp period of the offseason when there are more than 15 players signed to the team.

- Corrected an issue where the Qualifying Offers period was automatically getting skipped, thus not allowing users to make qualifying offers to their restricted free agents.

- Addressed an issue where Potential values weren’t being properly updated in the player progression system.

- Existing NBA players should no longer have their signature animations changed at the end of every season based on their skill progression/regression (this fix also applies to My Player mode).

- Fixed an issue where generated players would be created with the award history of a player currently in the Hall of Fame (this fix also applies to My Player mode).

- Tuned rookie generation code such that incoming talent is more in-line with players already in the league. Other generation improvements were made as well, including better secondary position logic along with adjustments to the size of the incoming players (this fix also applies to My Player mode).

- Users are now able to call plays during Intra-Squad Scrimmages in the Live Practice feature.

- Players who have the ‘Prospect’ player role are now much more forgiving of their role, meaning they will no longer become upset when they are in the role until they have reached a high rating.

- Addressed a number of other smaller issues within the mode (better CPU logic when accepting/declining Team Options, undrafted rookies should no longer sign larger than expected contracts, etc.).

MY PLAYER
(A number of issues that also affect My Player mode were listed above in the Association section. Those issues were noted as such.)

- Addressed a hang that would sometimes occur when completing a game during the NBA time period.

- The user’s team will now be more efficient in finding a trade to one of the requested teams when a Trade Request is made.

- The Rookie of the Year Milestone should now properly unlock when the conditions are met.

- Addressed a playcalling issue where the dribbler would hold the ball until the last second during My Player games.

- PlayVision art is now drawn on the floor when the CPU calls a play, easily enabling the user to follow the action on the court.

According to Ronnie's tweet, the patch will be released tomorrow on 360 and PS3. Sounds a bit too good to be true. I'll be happy if it's out by the first week of December.

What sliders are you guys playing on for My Player? I want to start one up and wondering if they should be the same as you use for games. Or if there are some things that need to be done differently.

Also, any positions I should avoid or things I should do?

I think you should maybe wait another couple of days, see how the patch changes the gameplay now that it´s arrived.

Can´t believe the patch arrives when a) i´m invited to a wedding anniversary and an actual wedding on saturday and sunday ...
