The K-Pop fans may be the most deranged fandom of anything I've ever seen.

Facebook may be dying, but it a is a pretty slow death. It is still the number one used social media platform. And it also owns the number 4 most used. I do think eventually those numbers will trend off as their users are definitely older (at least in the United States).
As for the reason for so many annoying ads? Their user group is also very gullible and easy to take advantage of. The same reason Fox News commercials are almost all scams on old people. I would dare say Facebook probably montizes it platform most efficiently. Or, in other words, milks more money from its users better than any other platform.

I keep getting that on Facebook Marketplace. Pretty sure that a lot of what is being sold isn't the actual clothing.

But yes, maybe I clicked on one to see what it was about, and now FB thinks it's all I like.

Tucker Carlson is going to move his whole show to Twitter. He is forgoing a $ 25 million dollar non-compete to do it. No word on what Elon is offering him.

If he tries to force that shit into my timeline, it may finally be time to get off. Because honestly, at least the way I use Twitter, I haven't noticed much of anything outside of the occasional hiccup. Even the blue check thing hasn't been an issue because I follow who I follow and rarely add new people. My follow list has been pretty baked in for several years.

yeah if this happens I'm gone from Twitter. I've seen quite a few people talking up BlueSky as a Twitter alternative recently.don't know anything about it but may be worth checking out

I'm on the list for Bluesky. If anyone has an invite code, I'm down. Problem is my Twitter of Time friends. As long they are there, I am stuck there too.

Twitter feels like it's dying anyway. It's kind of wild that no one has figured out what made Twitter popular. It's one of the only text based social media sites. Whoever can replicate that and bring over a chunk of the userbase will have my vote.

I mostly just follow some accounts for news and information so I'm not seeing the site totally die like others. But it's pretty clear it's dying like Myspace and others before it.

Replies are just a fucking trainwreck now. Everything is flooded by right-wing bluechecks desperate to get Elon's attention.

The only difference in my experience is that I am less likely to scroll Twitter on my phone because I can't use 3rd party apps anymore. Twitter's mobile app sucks but on a computer, I don't see much difference in my experience.

It really hasn't been a big change to me, either. I just stay on my "following" tab and blocked Elon. As for replies, certain post always illicited trolls and most of the tweets I look at the replies in aren't any worse than before.

I love to see folks getting excited about the prospect of Tucker on Twitter without acknowledging that current Twitter can barely keep its existing functionality working. Ilove the idea of Tucekr throwing his lot in with Elon.

Looks like it is going to be NBC executive Linda Yaccarino. She doesn't seem like a complete nutball, but she has been a big supporter of the idea of Twitter 2.0. She is their expert of advertising and has been a champion of new advertising streams for the network. She was also heavily involved in the Peacock launch.

Global advertising chief. Interesting experiment and there needs to be more women CEOs. I like that she's not a techie and more on the ad/marketing side, but no idea if that's more of a pro vs con. Either way, she'll need a great CTO.

Hopefully, he'll refocus on Tesla and SpaceX.

Apparently he really did pick someone.

But there was a thought that the "woman CEO" thing might have all been a setup for a really lame joke where he "identified" as Elena Musk to be the CEO.

She's a chair of the World Economic Forum and that's being taken about as well as you'd imagine by the far-right.

But it's a good sign for the business that he's trying to find someone that can make Twitter profitable rather than someone that can make Catturd happy.

I keyed on this out of one of the articles I read and it seems to square with the Tucker Carlson deal...

Quote:
Ms Atkinson said she expected Ms Yaccarino to bring her experience in television to bear on the transformation.

"It could evolve into something that is less of a micro-blog and more of a video streaming platform as it used to be," she said.

Rented a Tesla on my trip and it's kind of interesting. Took a little while to get used to decelerating and how to sort of coast to a stop. Same with how quiet the whole thing is. It's a unique experience and the car has some really nice pickup. I did enjoy driving it.

Build quality is really poor. Not sure if that's just on the model I got or if that's how it is for all of them. But outside of the monitor, everything inside felt very cheap.

I'm not a car guy, but I've heard several people say that for all that Tesla pushed forward EV technology, they've never been good at making cars.

It seems like the obvious play at some point is for them to merge with a major legacy carmaker--they bring over their charging network and EV tech, and the legacy carmaker brings knowledge of things like "here's how you weld two pieces of metal together."

That also lets the new carmaker continue to make Teslas for the Elon fanboys and non-Tesla branded EVs for the Elon haters--even if they are basically the same cars.

I know that GM dealers will service Teslas, so they may already be laying the groundwork for this.

I don't have experience with electric cars so I'm not sure if theirs is good or not. I enjoyed driving it though. There is kind of a cool floating feeling because you don't hear an engine revving when you hit the gas.

My disappointment was mostly with the interior. It looks and feels very cheap outside of the big monitor (which I'm not even sure I really like). The whole thing is plastic and the cheap kind at that. Maybe they have to make things like that to increase efficiency. But it felt a bit like those old Saturn cars from the early 90's. There were also weird gaps between the panels and it just didn't seem as polished as the major automakers builds.

If it was competing with a Camry or whatever, I think that's fine. But I've got a car in that price range and the Tesla felt like a much lower class. But maybe that's necessary to keep efficiency up and the price down.

The myth that rich people are necessarily smart is heavily ingrained in our culture.

Elon's lasting legacy might be in finally convincing people that it isn't true.

That's idiotic (Elon's statement). "You're gonna make everyone who made your car in the factory come to work but you can work from home?" No, if they were able to do that from home, I'd be perfectly happy with that. I'm not "making" them go to the factory so I can be superior. In fact, it seems like Elon is doing just the reverse -- he's making people come in to the office so he can feel superior. Tool.

I also think that people working multiple jobs (full time) is fundamentally wrong, because they are essentially stealing from their companies.

How many companies is Elon CEO for right now?

Wasn't his whole thing that he wanted Twitter to be politically neutral? And now he's launching Desantis's campaign. I haven't seen where he twisted himself out of that one yet but I'm sure he will.

It immediately crashed people's apps and had a ton of technical issues. Started like 30 minutes late after they re-booted but it mostly was just people coming in to complain about things they want changed on Twitter. Trying to find a recording but it seems like that function is broken on Twitter too.

There wasn't even that many people in it and it was just audio streaming. I'm sure you'll read about it being a disaster everywhere.

And the defense is "so many people tried to log in it crashed", like it was a good thing. The numbers weren't even a tenth of crowds that show up for some twitch streams. It was a fraction of the average Fox News show. It was a stupid own-goal.
