With Oklahoma losing yesterday not worried about an undefeated ND missing out. SEC Champ, undefeated Ohio State would be ahead of them, maybe SEC2 if Alabama & Georgia win out & play a close SECCG. Clemson might be a better team but will have a worse schedule than ND. WV & Colorado are the only undefeated B12/PAC12 teams left & I think ND would get a nod over them. I can't see any other 1 loss team getting in over ND.

Its ND. They will get in on name alone if they are undefeated.
Alabama Ohio St Notre Dame Georgia Texas is a wild card. If they have one loss and bet Oklahoma twice, that is a solid resume. Pac 12 will be left out. Acc may also. An undefeated Clemson knocks out Georgia. But would they count it as 2 ACC teams with ND and Clem. I know they are not officially a member, but you never know with the committee

Notre Dame does not have a conference championship game. So any contenders will have one more game than ND. Also, it appears that Notre Dame's best win will end up being Michigan. And their remaining SOS is not great. I wouldn't feel great if I were them about a close Alabama- Georgia game if OSU and Clemson also win out.

Good point.
I wonder if ND looks to join a conference if they are undefeated and left out.

No, the money & flexibility still wouldn't be worth giving up, but that won't happen anyways. We all know all 5 of those teams aren't going undefeated (outside of the SEC CG matchup), but I do love hypotheticals, so I would be very interested to see them pick between undefeated ND & undefeated Clemson... Michigan may or may not fall off as ND's signature win and FSU/USC being down hurts ND's SoS some, but Clemson's signature win will be NC State at home, @ Texas A&M, or Miami in the ACC CG, none of which scream elite either. I do agree name matters some & the committee would punt in that case & put both ND & Clemson in over the 1 loss SEC CG loser, especially if it's Georgia. For the same reason I think ND or Clemson would get in over WV or Colorado if it came down to it, even if those teams (particularly WV) have better SoS.

If Notre Dame wins out they’re in. An undefeated Notre Dame will always make the playoffs. Washington still has a shot if they win out, but probably will need a little bit of help. If they get left out but make the Rose Bowl I’m actually ok with that.

Yup. While I get the appeal of the playoffs, I do think the sport has suffered a significant loss with games like the Rose Bowl losing some luster.
Also, Washington has been to a Rose Bowl at least once in each decade since the 1920's, and I'd like to see that streak continue. |

I think that plus the proliferation of lower tier bowls has hurt as well. I understand the desire for a playoff, I advocated for one for many years due to the unbalanced schedule that college football teams have. However, I feel it does take away a lot of interest I used to have for a lot of games because they do not mean anything. |

I wanted a playoff as well.
But I love to see Iowa go to the Rose Bowl. Its a huge deal. And I hate seeing 2 playoff teams in that game. And I hate Washington for beating Iowa twice in the Rose Bowl.

This is pretty random, and it was an odd sequence of links/Wiki things* that led to me finding it but ...
When Tommy Tuberville coached at Texas Tech, there was a minor kerfluffle that arose over him smacking a graduate assistant coach in the head. That g.a. was named Kevin Oliver. That same Kevin Oliver was sentenced to six years in prison earlier this year. "Ex-TTU Coaching Assistant Sentenced for Sexual Abuse of a Child" *I was curious who was taking over as DC for Oklahoma so I Googled ... that led to McNeill ... which led to his Texas Tech tenure ... which led to Tuberville at Texas Tech ... which led to me thinking "that GA's name sounds kinda familiar, I wonder if he's a coach somewhere now" ... and there ya go

This seems like a much, much bigger deal to me than it is receiving attention for.
The PAC12 Director of Business Affairs over ruled both the on field and replay booth officials to stop a targeting call from being made. Worse yet he is also, apparently, over human resources for the conference to include official selection. Document shows third party overruled USC-WSU targeting call |

Pac-12 has had some sketchy shit going on for awhile with their officiating. They've tried cleaning it up over the years but never seems to work. Maybe this is why.
Remember they had a scandal of sorts in basketball with Ed Rush. Rush had his issues in the NBA as he was seen to have a vendetta against the Mavs. |

Yeah, I did a few games down there many years ago, arguably the most hospitable folks I ever visited. Basically a very tragic freak occurrence, but for me it feels even more tragic just because of where it happened. See, Pike County suffered a then state record setting 28 game losing streak in the mid 90s, went 2-48 from 1994-1998 and spent six long years in rebuilding hell playing a non-region (think JV level basically) schedule, only returning to normal play in 2004. Since then, 6 playoff appearances in 14 seasons and are currently 5-1 after a 9-4 run a year ago. It just feels like a place where good luck is hard to come by, so seeing something like this happen to them just feels even more unfair. Sad story in every way.

Iowa's defense is in shambles.
Your defense is pretty darn good. If you can get your freshman RB going it could be a long day for the Hawks.

Iowa finishing off Indiana. It is 42-16 with 3 minutes left.
Our offense looked fantastic today. We have the best TEs in the nation. 208 yards and 3 TDs by our duo

Actually, they just have to beat UF in two weeks to remain the most likely SEC Championship victim of Bama. Any aspirations higher than that were probably pipe dreams anyway.

What a gross way to lose a game.

Iowa State is playing well and WVU isn't, but it helps when you're spotted 20 points because you're able to break off multiple 20+ yard runs with blatant holds not being called.
Calls have tightened up in the 2nd half, but WVU needs to stop making a true freshman quarterback look like an all American. |

Shitkowski today one of the all-time worst games for a QB in college history. His final line was 2/16 for 8 yards and 4 picks. Backup Gio Rescigno came in for 1 pass, it was intercepted. So RU QBs on the day completed 2 passes to their own team, and 5 to the Terps. Terps had 45 yards in INT returns, RU with 8 passing.
I don't care if the buyout is $20M (it's actually $10M), time to move on fast. This team may not beat high school teams and Ash is horribly outcoached week after week. His recruiting sucks. Another year of this and nobody will come watch the team. Of course, RU gets their big payday in 2-3 years, so they will likely hold Ash for now until the buyout goes down and they get their $$$ from the B10. What a farce.

Not to mention, they also failed to catch a kickoff, allowing Maryland to kick it down to their 15 yard line and recover it without a Rutgers player touching the ball.

Sitkowski was benched as a high school senior, cut loose by Miami, dropped from a 4 star to a 3 star, and he's somehow starting as a true freshman. He's not ready. He's one of the worst P5 starting QBs I've seen. What's crazy is his 2/16 5 pick game isn't even the worst game he's played his year according to QBR. He's had adjusted QBRs of 0.9 against Kansas, 8.1 against Buffalo, and 1.5 against Maryland. For the season his QBR is 14.2. The next lowest for a P5 QB is Peyton Bender of Kansas at 31.5. I don't follow Rutgers, but it's clear he should have been redshirted and they had a chance after 4 games to preserve the redshirt but they keep sending him out there. Either Ash doesn't give a shit because he knows he won't be fired or he's already given up on Sitkowski and feels he has a better player coming in the next class. |
