My only negative towards him is really the state of the RB in today's game. It will be interesting to see if the Browns take him with Jim Brown calling Trent "ordinary." As somebody who has watched him during his time at 'Bama, I just shake my head at comments like that. FYI, Trent carries about 16 more pounds of weight on him versus Ray as well. NFL.com news: Jim Brown unimpressed by 'ordinary' Trent Richardson

Green Bay would trade down before taking someone they don't like (although I'd be OK with Mercilus). If there's one thing Thompson has shown, it's the willingness to trade down if value isn't there. I'm guessing someone would be interested in pick 28 to have a chance at one of the QBs (Weeden?) or HBs (Martin).
I could also see GB trading up to go after Barron, a DT or pass rusher. They do have 12 picks this year. Last edited by Arles : 04-26-2012 at 03:29 PM. |

I just want to confirm, on ESPN at 5 (Pacific) they have "SportsCenter Special: on The Clock presented by Castrol Edge". That is the draft right?

While I dont agree with Jim Brown calling Richardson ordinary he was right on with his modern day NFL thoughts. In addition too many first round running backs seem to not find a role worthy of a 1st round pick right now.
I am not even sure if you knew you were getting the rookie version of AP you would take him 4th overall. Well maybe you would but its probably not something that will get you in the playoffs that first year. As good as a running back may be they are no longer able to carry a NFL team. |

Grantland did a good article on the value of draft value by position. How can you tell which NFL draft picks are truly valuable? - Grantland I'm an old school, run first, defensive kind of guy, but I do think picking 4th for a RB is too high.

Speaking of, planning on DVRing the draft and seeing how quickly I can get through it once its over. I'll be at a hockey game so in all likelihood I won't even be following any picks. Wondering if I can knock it out in a half hour of real time.

I'm not a huge fan of Weeden, but most mocks have him and Martin going in the 29-36 range. So, if you like either guy and don't have a pick there - you will have to trade up.

And the draft contest thread got deleted. Something inappropriate, or just not wanting a fake-out anymore?

It has something to do with not wanting a fake-out. If anyone can explain it in regular words I shall declare them the 2012 NFL DRAFT COMPETITION CHAMPIONS!!! Last edited by molson : 04-26-2012 at 03:55 PM. |

There was a thread about Solecismic's annual draft contest. Every time people posted in the thread, it would get bumped, making people believe that he was running the contest again. But he isn't. So it's an unintentional fake-out.

It would be extra funny this year considering it's widely known who is being picked before them and it has been that way for awhile.

I deleted the post because of the fake-out. It reads that Solecismic Software is announcing a draft contest... in 2010. I don't think that's fair to people.
I stopped running the contest because the lockout made me re-evaluate how I enjoyed my own participation in the NFL, as a fan. There's too much media involvement. The Kiperization of the draft is turning it into another Survivor, with spoilers and fake spoilers and more twists and turns than Newt Gingrich's presidential campaign. When I started the contest, it was more about evaluating teams and seeing where players fit in. Would Green Bay, for example, overdraft an athletic defensive end because he might project to a perfect pass-rushing 34 linebacker? Now it's just watching the Kipers and the McShays and deciding which nuggets are believable. What I prefer is analyzing the results of the draft - an exercise that's better enjoyed 3-4 years afterward. I've added a blog post to the Football Frontier focusing on Ryan Tannehill and quarterbacks in the draft, by the way. |

This should be enough to convince the Browns that drafting Richardson is the right move.

There's a rumor that Bruce Irvin has a 1st round promise from a team picking at the bottom of round 1.

Watching a piece on Trent Richardson on NFL Network. Notice he already bought his Mom a GMC Denali, fully loaded after his pro day. No wonder these guys end up broke after their careers.
At least wait til you actually put your name on the contract and get your first check.

I know, I am just assuming he is taking a pay cut leaving Bama. In all honesty though I have zero issues with him buying his mom a car, good for him that he can do that for her. Last edited by Lathum : 04-26-2012 at 05:37 PM. |

It's ridiculous and I've had Insider for close to ten years now. But when they internet has a bazillion resources for the NFL draft (and twice as many mock drafts), there's no point in continuing to make people pay for. Though I suppose I'm a sucker who's paying for it. Though really, the cost of Insider is offset by the free subscription to ESPN the Mag. So there's that.

Yeah. The rumor is they want to trade up to get Gilmore, Barron (everyone seems to want to trade up for him), or Kirkpatrick. If they aren't able to trade up, I'd imagine they go BPA (aside from DT). I'm guessing 17 is Kirkpatrick's ceiling so he could easily fall to at least 20 or so (at which point it'd be easier to trade up for him). |

My thoughts exactly. I guess they were worried someone else was going to grab him. IMO that is to high to take a RB anyway when one can likely be found later in the draft |

I don't get the pick at #4. Now at #3 with additional picks tossed in makes me scratch my head. Love the player. It just seems a lot to invest for a RB in a passing league. I don't exactly see him coming in and pounding out 1,500 yards with what is surrounding him.

It's not a high price, but the Browns also aren't a deep enough team to be throwing away picks, even late round ones. Plus I just don't see anyone else moving up to #3 to get a RB. Pretty odd move IMO

They had 13 picks before the trade, they still have 10. I think in that scenario giving up some cannon fodder isn't too much to pay for a player you want.
